Smalls Graces the Cover of Vogue’s September Issue

There’s not denying Joan Smalls is one of the modeling world’s “It Girls.” And, now she’s got the ultimate cover to prove it.

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican model, currently ranked the No. 1 model in the world according to models.com, graces the cover of Vogue’s September issue.

Joan Smalls Vogue September 2014 Cover

In what’s being described as a return to models on the portadas of fashion magazines, Smalls, whose full name is Joan Smalls Rodriguez, appears alongside Cara Delevingne and Karlie Kloss on the cover, with a cover line that reads “The Instagirls.”

Smalls, Delevingne and Kloss show off their no-nonsense beauty, complete with clean faces and sporty, pulled-back hair and sparkly gowns.

Vogue’s September issue arrives at a massive 856 pages, down from last year’s 902-page Jennifer Lawrence whopper, but handily beats 2009’s recession-thinned, 584-page Charlize Theron cover, and even the 2007 Sienna Miller cover that at the time was heralded as the “biggest issue ever!” at 840 pages.

So is this a return to models on the covers of fashion magazines? Quite possibly, after famous agencies like dallas modeling agency is producing efficient models every year. After all, Christy Turlington appeared on Vogue UK‘s July 2014 issue, Miranda Kerr graced Lucky‘s June/July 2014 cover, Kate Upton landed V Magazine‘s February 2014 cover and Smalls posed for Elle‘s January 2014 cover, to name a few. Delevingne even covers Vogue UK‘s September issue this year.

Lopez released the revealing image, which was taken by photographers Steven Gomillion and Dennis Leupold, via her Instagram account on Wednesday morning.

She wrote alongside the picture: ‘#bootyfromtheblock #bootyandthebeat #naturalbooty #bootybootybootybootybootyeverywhere #jlobooty #LOL’.

Written by Chris Brown, Sam Hook, and Asia Bryant, the track features Lopez’s favorite collaborator Pitbull, who has rapped verses on her hit singles “On the Floor,” “Dance Again” and “Live It Up.”

Despite the risqué nature of the track, Lopez claims she penned the track for her young kids.

“There’s a song called Big Booty on the album. It’s a Diplo track. At first I said, “Never in my life will I do a song called Big Booty,” she explained during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in April. “But then I was in the car with my twins and as soon as they heard Big Booty they went crazy. They loved this song and because of that I recorded it.”

Even though Lopez hasn’t released the official music video for “Booty” yet, J.Lo is set to perform the track live on Fashion Rocks on September 9, airing on CBS.

Aguilera Exposes Her Baby Bump and More for V Magazine

There’s no shame in Christina Aguilera’s pregnancy body game…

The 33-year-old half-Ecuadorian American singer and The Voice coach went completely naked while posing for the August issue of V Magazine.

Christina Aguilera

The pregnant singer showed off her curves and baby bump in a series of sexy photos for the magazine.

In a stunning black and white picture, Aguilera bares her nude body and growing belly. She holds her right breast with one hand and arches her back while lifting her face and closing her eyes.

Aguilera called photographer Brian Bowen Smith on purpose to capture the blissful moments before she gives birth. She felt especially inspired by her pregnancy. The entertainer talked to the magazine about being comfortable with her body.

“As a woman, I’m proud to embrace my body through all stages of life, staying fearless and confident in surrendering to the unknowns the future has in store,” she said.

Another photo shows Christina standing in a sheer white dress while holding her hair up in a sultry pose with her eyes closed. Her breasts are clearly visible behind the sheer material as her hand cradles her baby bump in the right position to cover her private part.

In another photo, Christina is seen laying on her back in the same see-through white dress while shirtless fiance Matt Rutler is crawling on top of her to plant a kiss.

Aguilera is expecting her second child, which is her first with Matt. She’s already a mom to 6-year-old son Max with her former husband Jordan Bratman. While pregnant with Max, the singer also flaunted her baby bump in a nearly naked shoot for January 2008 issue of Mary Claire.

Aguilera, who is also working on a new album, will return to The Voice after delivering her second bundle of joy.

Dawson Launches Online Platform Dedicated to Promote and Foster African Culture

Rosario Dawson’s latest philanthropic project is all about Africa…

The 35-year-old Puerto Rican and Afro-Cuban American actress has partnered with her longtime friend and business partner, Abrima Erwiah, to launch Studio One Eighty Nine, an online platform dedicated to promote and foster African culture and African-inspired content through creative projects.

Dawson, who has advocated positive social change through various organizations like Voto Latino, the ONE campaign and the Vagina Monolugues-inspired movement V-Day, came up with the idea to launch the platform after a trip in June 2011 to the City of Joy, a V-Day supported community dedicated to empowering women survivors of violence.

“We were loving the empowerment that was there. It wasn’t just a different philosophy of life. It was saying ‘you’re powerful, you’re strong.'” Dawson tells Pret-a-Reporter. “The whole thing was turning pain into power.”

After meeting with members of the community, Dawson and Erwiah recognized what the women had to offer (“We just felt their kindred spirits,” says Dawson) and what they could give in return. Hence, it was the start of a beautiful relationship with the local creatives and the launch of their project.

The website is currently divided into three sections: an online magazine for showcasing African-inspired creative content; a supporting agency to help organizations with marketing and communications services; and a private fashion collection called Fashion Rising Collection, an artisan-produced label launched in support of V-Day’s One Billion Rising campaign to end violence against women.

“Let’s not just make [the movement] a one-day event, let’s create something that’s going to be impactful and yearlong, so that’s why we decided to call the line Fashion Rising because we’re employing women. We’re not going ‘hey we’re going to keep raising funds to keep your kid in school,’ we’re going to give you help and support for what you’re already doing,” explains Dawson. “That was the whole premise — we’re going to rise together. We’re going to collaborate and you’re going to be able to put your own kids through school.”

Dawson and Abrima, who both travel often to Ghana as well as other African countries, work directly with resident artisans, designers, artists, photographers and bloggers.

“We’re trying to tell long-term sustainable stories that are coming out of Africa to the outside market, as well as the inside market. It’s hard to find brands that are really working through the whole value chain,” says Erwiah, who previously worked at luxury label Bottega Veneta for 10 years, of the economic opportunities that have been created in Ghana, as well as other African countries, with the launch of Fashion Rising Collection. “We do our own textile to sewing and cutting to like every element of craft through the value chain.”

Erwiah adds: “By creating this platform that creates a demand for it, we’re then able to benefit the community by creating jobs because that’s an order, not just for sewing or cutting, it’s an order for every step on that chain.”

Currently selling on their website, the second Fashion Rising Collection (the first was sold at a pop-up shop with Urban Outfitters in L.A. and New York this past May) features pieces such as a green Aggie-print hand-Batik cotton military jacket and lime green ODLR-print hand-Batik terry cloth kimono, as well as Bottletop pink recycled pull can leather tassle purse and vegan leather carry-alls and coin purses.

Designers featured on the e-commerce include Geren Ford, Menzer Hajiyeva and Lulu, to name a few.

Zoë Saldaña isn’t afraid to grin and bare it…

Zoe Saldana Women's Health UK

Saldaña bared it all for the magazine, with only a rib cage tattoo covering up her skin.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star tells Women’s Health: “This past year I’ve had to start letting go. My body dictated it as if saying, ‘Slow the f— down!'”

As a result, Saldaña says her body is “less toned. I do look in the mirror and see things I don’t want.” But in some ways, she’s never felt better about her appearance.

“I do feel beautiful in a way that even when I was working out a whole lot, I sometimes didn’t,” Saldaña tells the magazine. “Because there have been times that I was really slender and I didn’t like that I sometimes looked a little too muscular and flat-chested. You’ll never be completely happy, so at the end of the day it’s like, f— it. Just be happy, regardless.”

Aguirre Earns Praise for Makeup-Less Barbie Image

Eddi Aguirre has Barbie seeing red… Red, blotchy skin, that is!

The Mexican graphic designer has created a mock up of a makeup-less Barbie to prove “nobody is perfect.”

Mexican-graphic-artist-creates-a-Barbie-without-makeup

Aguirre created a sketch of what Barbie would look like without her signature makeup as part of a special feature for a magazine. In the sketch, Aguirre depicts a Barbie with freckles, bags over and under her eyes, frizzy hair, shiny skin and braces.

The designer uploaded the project to his online portfolio with the following description:

“An image used in a special makeup feature for the new magazine shows Barbie before and after makeup (nobody is perfect).”

Over the past couple of years there has been a growing initiative to showcase natural beauty.

In 2010 Marie Claire magazine had a spread with a makeup-less Jessica Simpson and last week, Mariah Carey joined the many celebrities who have tweeted makeup-free photos of themselves.

The image of Barbie’s au naturel look has been dubbed refreshing as it reminds people the doll is an unrealistic role model for young girls.
