Ricky Martin to Perform at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for First-Time Ever

Ricky Martin is ready to rodeo…

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials have released its 2022 entertainer lineup, with the 50-year-old Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and actor set to perform for the first time ever.

Ricky MartinThe multi-week event, featuring acts from a range of genres, including country, Contemporary Christian, EDM, R&B, pop and more, runs from February 28-March 20 at NRG Stadium.

Martin is scheduled to perform on Friday, March 4.

But he isn’t the only Latin act set to take the stage this year…

Los Tucanes de Tijuana will perform on Sunday, March 6. The Mexican band previously performed in 2000.

Other performers include Dierks Bentley, Kane Brown, Luke Bryan, For King & Country, Sam Hunt, Cody Johnson, Journey, Khalid, Marshmello, Tim McGraw, Maren Morris, Brad Paisley, Chris Stapleton, Gwen Stefani, George Strait, Keith Urban.

The weekday rodeos will begin at 6:45 p.m. CT, with the entertainer performing at around 8:45 p.m. The NRG Stadium gates open at 6 p.m. Weekend rodeo shows begin at 3:45 p.m. CT, with the entertainer taking the stage at NRG Stadium 5:45 p.m. CT. The NRG Stadium gates open at 3 p.m.

Carlos Vives’ trek across the United States has been put on hold…

The 60-year-old Colombian singer, songwriter and actor has announced that his Después de todo … Vives tour is being postponed until further notice due to the rise in COVID-19 cases across the country.

Carlos VivesVives’ latest tour kicked off in December and was set to pick up January 13 in Seattle.

The Loud and Live-produced tour is being canceled for the time being to protect the public, artists and their teams.

“This difficult decision has been made in a prudent manner to ensure the well-being and health of the entire community,” stated Nelson Albareda, CEO and founder of Loud and Live.

New dates will be announced in the next few days, according to a press release, and tickets purchased will remain valid.

The emergence of the highly contagious Omicron variant has resulted in a spike in coronavirus infections across the U.S.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 206.6 million people in the U.S. have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, but the country still hit a record high on January 3 with more than one million people diagnosed with COVID-19, according to data from the John Hopkins University.

The Mexican Grupera band, comprised of brothers Adolfo Angel and Gustavo Angel, has postponed its U.S. tour amid a surge in COVID-19 cases across the nation.

In an official press release shared on their social media accounts, Los Temerarios said that due to the “critical situation,” they decided to postpone their 2022 tour — which was set to kick off February 4 — and move it to 2023.

“At this moment, everyone’s health is top priority, and although we want to return to the stage and reunite with our fans, we don’t want to put anyone at risk,” Los Temerarios, led by brothers Gustavo and Adolfo Angel, wrote. Tickets purchased for the 2022 tour will be valid for the new dates, which they’ll be announcing in the upcoming months, according to the post.

The 37-year-old half-Mexican American apper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, has earned two SCL Awards nominations from the Society of Composers & Lyricists , his first-ever nods from the organization.

Kid CudiKid Cudi earned one nod in the Song Drama/Documentary category for co-writing “Guns Go Bang,” alongside Jay-Z and Jeymes Samuel for the Netflix film The Harder They Fall.

He’s also nominated in the Song Musical/Comedy category for co-penning “Just Look Up,” with Nicholas Britell, Ariana Grande and Taura Stinson, for Netflix’s Don’t Look Up.

Germaine Franco is also a two-time nominee…

The 34-year-old Latina film composer is nominated in the Studio Film category for her work on Walt Disney Pictures’ Encanto.

She’s also nominated in the Interactive category for her work on Kung Fu Panda: Land of Awesomeness.

Lin-Manuel Miranda has earned a nod in the Song Musical/Comedy category.

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican multi-hyphenate is nominated for penning the track “Home All Summer” for In The Heights, the film adaptation of his Tony Award-winning Broadway musical of the same name.

Alberto Iglesias is competing in the Independent category.

The 66-year-old Spanish award-winning composer is nominated for his acclaimed work on Pedro Almodovar’s Spanish-language film Parallel Mothers, which stars Penelope Cruz.

Cristobal Tapia de Veer is a nominee in the Television category.

The 48-year-old Chilean film and television score composer, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist is nominated for his work on Apple TV’s The White Lotus.

The annual SCL Awards, now in their year, honor music in visual media — film, television, streaming, interactive — spanning seven categories plus the David Raksin Award for Emerging Talent.

The in-person trophy show — COVID-19-permitting — will be hosted by Darren Criss on Tuesday, February 1, at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

Composer Carter Burwell and filmmakers Joel Coen & Ethan Coen will receive the Spirit of Collaboration Award for their 17-film team-up along with a musical tribute performance. The live lineup includes Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear and Judith Hill.

The 76-year-old Society of Composers & Lyricists is the primary organization for professional film, TV, video game, and musical theater composers and lyricists.

The 60-year-old stand-up comedian and actor has rescheduled his cancelled New Year’s Eve performance at the Muckleshoot Casino Resort in Auburn, Washington.

George LopezLopez cancelled – and later rescheduled – his New Year’s Eve performance at the resort in Auburn, Washington, after falling ill and walking offstage during a matinee performance.

The cancellation of the evening show was confirmed by the resort in a tweet. The show was subsequently rescheduled for Friday, March 18.

According to a report by TMZ, Lopez was in the middle of a 4:00 pm show when, as told by an eyewitness, he began to sweat and asked for water. He then apologized to the audience and walked exited the stage.

An ambulance was observed pulling up to the venue, but it was unclear if it was intended for Lopez.

YouTube Originals has announced plans to launch a new docuseries following the 29-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer’s road to success will premiere this week.

Anuel AATitled 30 Days With: Anuel, after the YouTube Originals franchise, the four-part documentary series, helmed by director Jessy Terrero, captures the Latin trap artist’s beginnings in the music industry and the story behind his arrest in Puerto Rico.

According to an official statement, “The project was filmed over 30 days during the final days of Anuel’s probation period, and his first week of freedom.”

On April 2, 2016, Anuel (real name Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago) was arrested on gun possession charges and denied bail, despite having a clean record. He was sentenced to 30 months, which he served in full, spending time in four different prisons in Puerto Rico, Atlanta, and Miami, with a brief stint at a halfway house. On July 17, 2018, he finally walked out a free man, just hours after releasing his debut album, Real Hasta La Muerte (on Glad Empire and distributed by The Orchard).

An Endemol Shine Boomdog production, the docuseries is executive produced by Alejandro Rincón, Javier Pérez Teuffer, Flavio Morales, and Miguel Batz, with Nicole Emanuele overseeing the Anuel miniseries for YouTube Originals.

30 Days With: Anuel premieres at 12:00 pm PT on Wednesday, December 29, on Anuel’s official YouTube channel, with a new episode premiering every week.

TikTok has announced the lineup for its TikTok New Year’s Eve livestream, including a headlining performance by the 27-year-old Colombian American Grammy-winning singer.

Kali UchisUchis joins a roster of headlining acts that includes Charlie Puth and Rico Nasty.

“Celebrate the New Year with @KALIUCHIS, @charlieputh, @Rico_nastyy, host @Avgfashionblog and special guests as they say goodbye to 2021 and hello to 2022,” TikTok tweeted to reveal the December 31 special.

The trio of musicians will be joined by TikTok creators Tyshon Lawrence, Cristian Dennis, Tracy Joseph, Billy and Scarlet May, while Courtney Parchman — otherwise known as Average Fashion Blogger to her nearly one million TikTok followers — will serve as the evening’s host.

The livestream is set to kick off at 9:00 pm ET/6 pm PT on New Year’s Eve.

Uchis earned her first No. 1 hit atop Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart in March with “Telepatía,” thanks in large part to the Spanish-language single going viral on TikTok.

Since then, she has also collaborated with the likes of SZA (“Fue Mejor”) and Ozuna (“Another Day in America.”)

The 66-year-old Spanish composer has been named to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ Oscars shortlist in the Best Original Score category.

Iglesias has been nominated three times for an Academy Award for his work on the films The Constant Gardener, The Kite Runner and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Germaine Franco, the first Latina to join the music branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, could earn her first Oscar nod.

Franco is still in the running for her work on Disney’s animated film Encanto.

Nominations voting begins on January 27 and wraps up on February 1, with noms for the 94th Academy Awards to be announced on February 8.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has cut its Original Song Oscar category list to 15 songs that made the shortlist, with the 37-year-old half-Mexican American Grammy-winning singer/actor having two songs still in the running.

Meanwhile, Kid Cudi’s song “Guns Go Bang,” co-written with Jay-Z for the film The Harder They Fall is also still in the running for a nomination.

Lin-Manuel Miranda could also pick up another Oscar nod.

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican multi-hyphentate, who earned a nomination in the Best Original Song category in 2016 for his Moana single “How Far I’ll Go,” is still in the running for his single “Dos Oruguitas” from Disney’s Encanto.

A total of 84 songs were eligible in the category this year.

Abner Benaim’s “Plaza Catedral” Makes Oscars Short List in International Feature Film Category

Abner Benaim is celebrating a special first for Panama…

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled its shortlist of 15 films that will advance to the next stage of voting in the International Feature Film category at the Academy Awards, with the 50-year-old Panamanian filmmaker’s latest film making the cut.

Abner BenaimBenaim’s thriller Plaza Catedral becomes the country’s first film to make the short list.

Starring Ilse Salas, Xavier de Casta and Manuel Cardona, explores the relationship between a melancholy divorcee and a poor street child.

As a co-production between Panama, Mexico and Colombia, it’s Benaim’s second fiction feature film after his 2009 comedy Chance.

But Benaim’s Plaza Catedral isn’t the only Latin film making the short list…

Mexico’s Prayers For The Stolen, directed by Tatiana Huezo, and Spain’s The Good Boss, directed by Fernando León de Aranoa and starring Javier Bardem, have also made the cut.

Academy members from all branches were invited to participate in the preliminary round of voting and must have met a minimum viewing requirement to be eligible to vote in the category.

In the nominations round, Academy members from all branches are invited to opt in to participate and must view all 15 shortlisted films to vote.

Nominations voting begins on January 27, 2022, and concludes on February 1, 2022. They will be announced on February 8, 2022 with the ceremony held on March 27.
