Sony Pictures Classics has landed U.S. rights to the French drama The Past, which stars the 36-year-old Argentine Oscar-nominated actress, at the Cannes Film Festival.

Directed by Asghar Farhadi, the film’s twisting plot involves secrets, lies, deceit, divorce, affairs, comas, pregnancy and other traumatic situations.

“This is a film that is so far removed from my life, from my everyday,” says Bejo. “But at the same time, it’s really interesting to play someone who is your total opposite.”

The ambitious drama starring Bejo, Ali Mosaffa and Tahar Rahim, is considered an early contender for the Palme d’Or, with reaction and reviews very strong after its screening Friday in competition.

<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/Z2-_lt4kwXE” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

Bejo, who earned an Oscar nomination for her star-making role in The Artist, stepped into the lead role after Marion Cotillard had to exit the project due to a scheduling conflict.

He may not have claimed any trophies, but Bruno Mars still managed to make his mark at this year’s Billboard Music Awards.

The 27-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer-songwriter, who was nominated for four awards, kicked off the three-hour show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena with a high-octane performance.

Mars, dressed to the nines as usual, took the stage to perform his latest single “Treasure.”

But Mars wasn’t the only Latino performer of the night…

Selena Gomez performed her catchy single “Come and Get It” on the show.

The song, the first single off the 20-year-old half-Mexican American singer-actress’ upcoming album recently made its way into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Jennifer Lopez, the night’s best-dressed artist on the red carpet, had the world seeing red…

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican singer/actress busted a move on stage while performing her latest single “Live It Up” alongside Pitbull during the show.

The song, her third single with the Cuban rap superstar, is already generating serious buzz, especially after the release of the official music video for the track.

Miguel, meantime, made a splash at the Billboard Music Awards when he landed on top of an unsuspecting audience member while taking the stage.

During his performance of his hit single “Adorn”, the 27-year-old half-Mexican American R&B artist jumped and landed his crotch smack on top of a girl in the crowd. Later, he also appeared to kick another girl in the head after jamming out to his hit.

“got caught up in the moment, thank goodness Khyati is okay” Miguel tweeted after his performance.

Last but certainly not least… Christina Aguilera showed off her slimmer physique f while performing at the awards show.

The 32-year-old half-Ecuadorian singer and returning The Voice coach joined Pitbull on stage to perform their song “Feel This Moment” during the show.

Aguilera and Mr. 305 were later joined by A-ha singer Morten Harket. The duo sample A-ha’s “Take On Me” in their hit single.

Once again, Rafael Nadal is proving to be the man to beat on clay…

The 26-year-old Spanish tennis star dropped only four games in beating Roger Federer in 68 minutes to earn his seventh Italian Open title.

“I’m playing much better than I dreamed of a few months ago,” Nadal said. “I’m doing the right things to play well.”

In the 30th career meeting between the archrivals, who share 28 Grand Slam singles titles amongst them, Nadal claimed the 6-1 6-3 victory at Rome’s Foro Italico.

He has now won six of his eight tournaments since returning in February from a seven-month break due to knee injury.

Nadal improved to 20-10 in his career against Federer, and he showed once again that he will be the player to beat when the French Open starts next Sunday. He’s looking to win an Open-era record eighth title at Roland Garros.

With 11 wins in their 13 previous matches on clay, Nadal was a heavy favorite against Federer in Rome, but the way he dispatched of his competitor was still quite impressive.

“He played very aggressively from the start,” said Federer. “He didn’t make too many mistakes and had a good match overall.

“Rafa has much more topspin than all the guys I played this week, so the change was quite a big one. I tried to play offensively, but unfortunately I didn’t have the best day.”

“It didn’t go the way I was hoping it to go.”
