Reik Joins Voices with Maluma for New Track “Amigos Con Derechos”

Reik is making sweet music with a new Amigo…

The Mexican band is already killing it when it comes to the romantic/urban genre, and now they’ve joined voices with one Latin music’s biggest of-the-moment stars on a new track.

Reik has partnered with superstar Maluma to release the song and video for “Amigos Con Derecho.”

The new song, written by Julio Ramirez (Reik’s guitarist), Andres Castro and Servando Primera, tells the story of a couple who are in love but don’t want to give a title to their relationship. They just want to be friends with benefits.

“Amigos con Derechos” was released alongside a music video that carries a beautiful story of a young couple having a romantic date in Las Vegas that goes so well, they decide to get married. In the end, when she wakes up (as an old woman), everything seems to have been a dream — but it really wasn’t. The couple spent their whole life together.

“Amigos Con Derecho” is the fourth song that Reik has recorded with an urban artist.

Fanny Lu is making a sweet-smelling return to the music world…

Following a three-year hiatus from recording new material, the 42-year-old Colombian singer has released a brand new single via Sony Music.

Written by Carlos Vives with his longtime producer and co-writer Andrés Castro, “El Perfume” marks a return to Fanny Lu’s original vallenato/pop sound, with prominent accordion riffs, a danceable beat and a catchy chorus.

“Colombia is my country, my heart and my inspiration, and this new single and album reflect that,” said Fanny Lu, who served as a coach on La Voz Colombia, her country’s version of the NBC singing competition The Voice.

With a mix of pop, vallenato accordion and a husky voice, Fanny Lu found success in 2006 with her catchy single “No te pido que me mandes flores” from her debut album Lágrimas Cálidas. Two subsequent singles, “Y si te digo” and “Tu no eres para mi” (with a video featuring Wilmer Vaderrama), reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay charts.

Fanny Lu was most recently a coach on La Voz Kids Colombia and also collaborated with Vives in his new version of “La tierra del olvido.”

Visitante Leads the Pack of Latin Grammy Nominees with 10

It’s a perfect ten for Eduardo Cabra …

The Puerto Rican reggaetón singer has picked up 10 Latin Grammy nominations to lead the pack of honorees this year.

Cabra, commonly known “Visitante,” earned nine nominations with his stepbrother and fellow Calle 13 member René Pérez, known as “Residente.” He earned his tenth nod of the year for Producer of the Year his work as a producer on Jorge Drexler’s album Todo Cae.

Calle 13’s nominations include Record of the Year, for their single “Respira El Momento;” Album of the Year for MultiViral; and Song of the Year for their track “Ojos Color Sol” with Silvio Rodríguez.

Since 2006, when they took home the Best New Artist award, Calle 13 has won 19 Latin Grammys.

Meanwhile, Andres Castro earned eight. Tom Coyne received seven, Julio Reyes Copello and Carlos Vives each received six nominations, and Descemer Bueno and Enrique Iglesias were next with five nods each.

In the running for best new artist are Aneeka, Linda Briceno, Caloncho, Julio Cesar, Pablo Lopez, Miranda, Periko & Jessi Leen, Daniela Spalla, Juan Pablo Vega and Mariana Vega.

This year’s Latin Grammy Awards will broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The ceremony will air on the Univision from 8:00 – 11:00 pm ET.

Daddy Yankee’s “Limbo” Recognized at the ASCAP Latin Music Awards

Daddy Yankee has plenty of reason to celebrate…

The 37-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton singer-songwriter’s “Limbo” has been named Song of the Year at the ASCAP Latin Music Awards.

The track, released as a Spanish-language song and bilingual track, peaked at number one on Billboard’s Latin Songs and Latin Pop Songs charts.

“Limbo” was written specially for Zumba Fitness to highlight the dance fitness company’s presence in the Latin music industry.

Daddy Yankee said he wanted “Limbo to invite the imagination, ignite creativity, to step away from the norm and bring something completely different.”

But that wasn’t the only prize Daddy Yankee picked up…

He also received ASCAP’s Voice of Music award. Looking visibly emotional, Daddy Yankee accepted his award and addressed the crowd in general and his fellow musicians in particular.

“It’s such an honor to be here. For me everything began as a young guy in Santurce, Puerto Rico in the 90s. I still have that passion in my heart,” he said.

Meanwhile, legendary musicians Fania All-Stars, this year’s Heritage award recipients, shared the stage with today’s stars in what became a true once-in-a-lifetime musical moment.

“I want to thank these boys for being with me so many years,” said 78-year-old Fania founder and bandleader Johnny Pacheco when accepting the award. “To me, this is the best salsa orchestra in existence.”

Colombian Andres Castro shared the Songwriter of the Year award with Romeo Santos (who was on tour but sent a video greeting).

Held in New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom, the awards celebrate the most-performed songs, publishers and composers of 2013, with Sony/ATV winning publisher of the year and Mayimba Music winning Independent Publisher of the year.
