Pope Francis is the Subject of an Upcoming Biopic

It may be easy to learn more about Pope Francis’ story without flipping a single page…

Entitled Llamenme Francisco, an upcoming biopic is currently being filmed in Buenos Aires. It will trace the life of Jorge Mario Bergoglio from his youth in the Argentine capital all the to his election as Pope Francis at the Vatican.

Pope Francis
“We want to tell the human journey of this man who today is the greatest spiritual leader of our time,” Italian director Daniele Luchetti said during the presentation of the project.

Llamenme Francesco begins in 1963 with Bergoglio in his late 20s, depicts his life during turbulent times in Argentina, including the 1976-1983 military dictatorship and the country’s devastating 1998-2002 economic depression, and charts his rise to archbishop of Buenos Aires and eventually the papacy.

The Spanish-language film will look back at Bergoglio’s youth, showing “his path, his doubts, his mistakes, his strong points,” Luchetti said.

Rodrigo De la Serna, an Argentine actor best known for his role as Alberto Granado, future revolutionary Che Guevara’s traveling companion, in The Motorcycle Diaries, will star as the young Bergoglio in what he calls a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Argentine actress Mercedes Moran, for her part, will portray Esther Ballestrino, an exiled Paraguayan communist who – despite their differences – strikes up a friendship with Bergoglio during the dictatorship.

“The figure of the pope takes on a very human and very real dimension, and the film provides … a look at a really special historical period for us,” Moran said.

Chilean actor Sergio Hernandez, who depicts Bergoglio in the latter stages of the film, said his role is “a really big challenge.”

Argentina’s Martin Salinas wrote the screenplay, which is based on the bestselling book Francisco. El Papa de la gente by his countrywoman, journalist Evangelina Himitian.

Mascherano’s Words of Encouragement to Sergio Romero Go Viral

It’s no wonder Javier Mascherano is considered Argentina’s de facto team captain…

The 30-year-old Argentine footballer’s inspiring words to the team’s goalie Sergio Romero during his team’s FIFA World Cup semifinal match against the Netherlands on Wednesday, just moments before the end of the match, have gone viral thanks to a Vine clip, and made him a star in his own right

Sergio Romero

“Listen to me. It’s today. Today, you become a hero,” says Mascherano seconds before the penalty kicks showdown that closed the semifinals.

Romero saved two penalty kicks from the Netherlands, making Mascherano’s words ring true and leading his team to victory — and the final match against Germany on Sunday.

Santana to Pen His Memoir

He ranks as one of the greatest guitarists of all time… And Santana could soon find his name on the New York Times bestseller list.

The 65-year-old Mexican-born rock guitarist has signed an agreement with Little, Brown and Co. to write a tell-all memoir, according to The Associated Press.

Santana

Santana, who has won 10 Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards, learned to play the violin at age five and the guitar at age eight while living Mexico. Following his family’s move to San Francisco, he was also introduced to a variety of new musical influences, including jazz and folk music, and he witnessed the growing hippie movement centered in San Francisco in the 1960s.

“The ’60s were a leap in human consciousness. Mahatma Gandhi, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Che Guevara, Mother Teresa, they led a revolution of conscience,” once said Santana. “The Beatles, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix created revolution and evolution themes. The music was like Dalí, with many colors and revolutionary ways. The youth of today must go there to find themselves.”

Santana, currently locked into a two-year headlining gig at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, is expected to dish on the likes of Eric Clapton and Herbie Hancock as he recounts his mammoth career.

Santana’s book is expected to be released in 2014.

Oscar Isaac: Bourne to Act

There’s no denying that a star is Bourne in Hollywood’s latest blockbuster. And, his name is Oscar Isaac.

Prepare to take notice of the 32-year-old Guatemalan/Cuban actor in the latest film in the Bourne franchise, Bourne Legacy, which stars Jeremy Renner. It’s his most high profile role to date… But, like his character, he’s keeping mum about his role.

Oscar Isaac

“I can’t give many details without ruining the suspense,” says Isaac. “I can only tell you that I play Agent 3, a very mysterious guy,” says Isaac. “You never know what his motivations are or where his loyalties lie.”

When he’s not working on a project, Isaac likes to lay low in Miami, the city where he grew up and has made his home.

Isaac doesn’t open up much about his private life. Why? He doesn’t want to be a show business personality. He just wants to lose himself in his characters.

“I like being like a chameleon who transforms himself with each role,” says Isaac.

His first major film role was as Joseph in the film The Nativity Story. His credits include All About the Benjamins, the Che Guevara biopic Guerrilla and Body of Lies, where he worked with Leonardo Di Caprio. Most recently he appeared in the Madonna-directed W.E.

So what’s next for Isaac? He just finished filming Inside Llewin Davis, the latest project by two of his movie idols, brothers Joel and Ethan Cohen.

“I play a folk music singer of the 1970s and I had the opportunity to write five songs that are going to come out on the film’s soundtrack,” he says enthusiastically.

Bourne Legacy opened in theaters nationwide today.
