Mariah Carey Teams Up with David Morales to Release Extended Edit of No. 1 Single “Honey”

Mariah Carey is sweetening up one of her hits…

The 53-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer has released an extended edit of “Honey” as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of her 1997 classic, Butterfly.

Mariah CareyThe nearly eight-minute edit comes from the extremely capable hands of David Morales, the legendary NYC DJ/producer/remixer who helped deliver pop divas to the clubs in the ’80s and ’90s and beyond via remixes of Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Madonna and a litany of other divas.

Morales worked extensively with Carey throughout her career via official edits of hits including “Dreamlover,” “Fantasy” and “Shake It Off,” among many others.

Coming as a bonus track on the Butterfly re-release, Morales’ “Honey – Another Taste of Honey David Morales Remix” edit throws the kitchen sink at the track, bumping up the BPM, turning the sizzle dial all the way up via layers of percussion, rhythm guitar, a string section, a choir and revamped powerhouse vocals from Carey.

The edit comes among other re-release bonuses including 4K remastered versions of “Honey” and “The Roof” music videos, a new “Honey” music video documentary, classic live performances being released via Carey’s YouTube during September, Butterfly on cassette, and Deluxe Butterfly 4LP and 2LP Editions.

“I will never forget the day I released this album to the world,” Carey wrote Friday (Sept. 16) on social media. “I had never felt more exposed and vulnerable yet free and euphoric at the same time. It was a true EMANCIPATION (no pun intended!) of my spirit, soul and innermost feelings which I poured into every lyric and every note on every song. 25 years later, it’s still one of the proudest moments of my life & career.”

Dave Navarro Teams Up with Chris Chaney & Taylor Hawkins to Launch New Trio NHC

Dave Navarro is banding together with a new crew of mates…

The 54-year-old Mexican American guitarist, singer, songwriter, actor and television personality has teamed up with fellow Jane’s Addiction mate Chris Chaney and Foo FightersTaylor Hawkins to launch NHC.

Dave Navarro

The new “supergroup,” which goes by the name of NHC (that’s N for Navarro; H for Hawkins; and C for Chaney), features Hawkins taking duties for lead vocals and drums, Navarro wielding the axe and Chaney playing bass.

NHC, reads a statement, is the result of “pure, unharnessed creativity and the world’s biggest Mutual Appreciation Society,” guys who’ve been in each other’s orbit in the Los Angeles rock scene for longer than any of them can recall.

The trio announce themselves to the music world with the release of two tracks, the speed-thrills “Feed The Cruel” and the laid-back “Better Move On.”

They’ll play the songs, and others, when they make their live debut at this year’s Ohana Festival, to be held October 2 in Dana Point, CA.

In addition to solo work, Navarro has performed with Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deconstruction, Janet Jackson, Camp Freddy, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Guns N’ Roses, among others.

Camila Cabello Brings “Cinderella” Character to James Corden’s “Crosswalk the Musical” Segment

Camila Cabello isn’t afraid to walk the (cross)walk

Late night television host James Corden has debuted another segment of his Crosswalk the Musical on The Late Late Show, and this time he welcomed the 24-year-old Cuban and Mexican singer/actress and their Cinderella co-stars Billy Porter and Idina Menzel.

Camila Cabello, Crosswalk the Musical

The segment opened with Corden dressed as the fairy godmother, quipping that he gave Porter the wrong address because he’s “intimidated.” “Billy Porter is the only actor I’ve ever encountered who is almost as talented as I am,” the late-night host joked.

Porter eventually joined Cabello and Menzel, immediately calling out Corden and reminding him that he’s “the only one that’s going to be playing the Fairy Godmother” whereas Corden can play “the rat” like he does in the film, to which Corden argued was a mouse.

The co-stars then changed into their characters from Amazon’s Cinderella and stopped traffic to perform songs from the film in the somewhat busy streets of Los Angeles. The Cinderella actors and singers sang along to a few of the tunes they cover in the musical, including the mash-up of Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation” and Des’ree’s “You Gotta Be.”

A few drivers looked amused and confused while others appeared slightly annoyed that their commute was delayed.

The modern version of the classic fairy tale, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, depicts the princess, played by Cabello, as an independent woman who is focused on achieving her fashion dreams. The jukebox musical features the cast’s versions of popular songs like Madonna’s “Material Girl,” Queen’s “Somebody to Love,” and Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect.” The film marks Cabello’s acting debut.

The segment ends with Porter, who plays the Fabulous Godparent dubbed “Fab G” in the film, turning Corden into an actual mouse. “Bibbidi-bobbidi bye bitch,” Porter says to the camera.

Amazon’s Cinderella is streaming now.

Jhené Aiko Teams Up with Big Sean to Reenact 90s Black Rom-Coms in “Body Language” Music Video

Jhené Aiko has a new body of work…

The 32-year-old part-Spanish and part-Dominican American singer – who earned three Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year for her latest studio album Chilombo – has joined voices with Big Sean and Ty Dolla $ign for the cinematic music video to their single “Body Language.”

Jhené Aiko, Big Sean

The mini-film shows the real-life couple (Aiko & Big Sean) taking on the roles of iconic onscreen duos from ’90s Black romantic comedies, from Tupac and Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice (1993) to Larenz Tate and Nia Long in Love Jones (1997). Aiko also serves big Angela Bassett energy from Waiting to Exhale (1995) when she burns her ex’s car with his clothes inside. And of course, the featurette has pop and R&B music’s favorite featured star Ty Dolla $ign popping up in each scene while he narrates the chorus.

“Big homage paying to a few of my favorite flicks growin up,” Big Sean wrote on Instagram about the movies he referenced in his music video.

Seems like Aiko did Jackson justice after the pop icon shared a still of the R&B singer’s portrayal of her Poetic Justice character on her Instagram Story with a heart emoji. “Thank you legend!!” Big Sean wrote back while resharing her IG Story with a goat emoji to symbolize that she’s the greatest of all time, or the G.O.A.T.

And the Chilombo singer’s nod to Waiting to Exhale came right around the time of the film’s 25th anniversary on Tuesday, December 22, which Bassett celebrated by posting a still from the same fiery scene on Instagram coincidentally on the same day of the music video’s release. “I didn’t plan that! Wow!” Big Sean mused on his own IG Story while resharing the actress’ post. “We did this scene in the video n dropped the same day! God will do it!”

“Body Language” is off the Detroit rapper’s fifth studio album Detroit 2, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in September.
