CBS to Present Mariah Carey’s Primetime Holiday Concert Special Next Month

Mariah Carey is ready to spread a little holiday cheer…

The 52-year-old half-Venezuelan American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer, also known as the Queen of Christmas, is returning with a two-hour primetime holiday concert special next month.

CBS will present Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to All! on Tuesday, December 20 from 8:00-10:00 pm, ET/PT. The show will also be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.

Filmed in New York City at Madison Square Garden, the concert special will feature the singer-songwriter performing a repertoire of her festive holiday hits, including the perennial favorite, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

MTV will offer additional opportunities to view the special after the CBS broadcast.

Carey is the best-selling female artist of all-time, with more than 200 million albums sold to-date and 19 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles. She is also an inductee to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and has been recognized with multiple Grammy Awards, numerous American Music Awards, three Guinness World Record titles, both Billboard’s Artist of the Decade and Icon awards, the World Music Award for World’s Best Selling Female Artist of the Millennium, the Ivor Novello Award for PRS for Music Special International Award and BMI’s Icon Award for her outstanding achievements in songwriting.

Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas To All! is a coproduction of Sony Music Entertainment and Supply & Demand. Carey, Joseph Kahn, Charleen Manca and Nicola Doring are executive producers. Sony Music Entertainment is distributing the special.

Howie Dorough & the Backstreet Boys Debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Holiday Albums Chart with “A Very Backstreet Christmas”

It’s a pre-Christmas gift for Howie Dorough and his fellow Backstreet Boys…

The 49-year-old half-Puerto Rican singer and his band mates debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Holiday Albums chart with the group’s first seasonal effort, A Very Backstreet Christmas.

The set launches atop the list dated October 29 with 20,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending October 20, according to Luminate.

The seasonal Top Holiday Albums chart returned to Billboard’s weekly chart menu for the current season with the October 22-dated chart. That week, the top debut was Lindsey Stirling’s Snow Waltz at No. 2, while the soundtrack to Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas spent a 12th nonconsecutive week atop the list.

Top Holiday Albums will continue to be published on a weekly basis through January of 2023, when it will dash away until the next holiday season. (The chart generally returns every October.)

The Top Holiday Albums chart ranks the 50 most popular seasonal albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each units equals one album sales, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.

The Oct. 29-dated Top Holiday Albums chart is populated by festive favorites that have decorated the chart through the years, including Michael Bublé’s Christmas, Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas, Josh Groban’s Noel, Vince Guaraldi Trio’s A Charlie Brown Christmas (the survey’s all-time top title) and Carrie Underwood’s My Gift.

Mariah Carey to Perform Two Christmas Concerts This Holiday Season

Mariah Carey is planning for an extra special holiday season.

The 52-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and actress, the Queen of Christmas, has revealed plans to perform a pair of Christmas shows.

Carey will deck the halls with all her jingle bell best during a set of her classic holiday songs.

“It’s almost time NEW YORK + Toronto!!!” she wrote. “Come celebrate Christmas with me this December! lil’ excited lil’ excited to be back on stage and get festive with everybody!!”

Tickets for the shows — December 11 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, December 13 at Madison Square Garden in New York — will go on sale on Friday (October 28) at 10:00 am ET on Ticketmaster.

According to a release, these will be Mariah’s only Christmas concerts this yuletide season and fans purchase a ticket will also get a chance to buy an exclusive t-shirt and a copy of the singer’s illustrated holiday fairytale book, The Christmas Princess, which is due out on November 1.

The announcement also tees up the annual chart watch to see if Carey’s perennial Christmas classic, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” will hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a fourth year in a row.

Last week, the Christmas Queen got fans excited to get in the spirit by teasing the kick-off to “All I Want for Christmas Is You” season by tweeting, “It’s almost time…,” in which she showed off her festive red robe draped on the steps leading to her luxurious jacuzzi-style bathtub. The scene was filled out with a giant display of red and white roses spelling out her initials.

But, before you get too revved up, as the first, twinkly notes of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” bubbled up, Mariah tapped the brakes and in a follow-up tweet cautioned, “Not yet.”

Robert Trujillo & His Metallica Band Mates to Host Helping Hands Benefit Concert for Third Year

Robert Trujillo is offering a helping hand…

The 57-year-old half-Mexican American musician and his Metallica band mates are bringing their Helping Hands benefit concert back for a third year, the band has announced.

On behalf of the rockers’ All Within My Hands foundation, the 2022 edition of the Helping Hands Concert and Auction will make its Southern California debut on December 16, when Metallica will hit the stage at L.A.’s Microsoft Theater with a number of yet-to-be-revealed special guests.

Tickets for the special event will go on sale to the general public starting Friday, September 23 at 10:00 am local time. Customers will have two-ticket limit per person — with 100 percent of proceeds going directly to Metallica’s non-profit organization, which aims to create “sustainable communities by tackling issues including hunger and workforce education.”

The band’s last Helping Hands Concert and Auction took place in November 2020 with a livestream that ultimately raised more than $1.8 million for work with partners including Feeding America, the American Association of Community Colleges and a number of COVID-19 and disaster-relief funds.

Mariah Carey Partners with Chopard to Launch “Happy Butterfly” Jewelry Collection

Mariah Carey is spreading her wings in celebration of the 25th anniversary reissue of her Butterfly album.

The 53-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer has released a jewelry collection with Swiss luxury designer Chopard.

The “Happy Butterfly” collection includes 12 pieces featuring a butterfly crafted in “ethical rose and white gold” and is described in a release as having a “transparently openworked heart in which a dancing diamond nestles between two sapphire crystals.”

Bangles, pendants, rings, and earrings are available from $6,330 to $23,500.

Chopard is also releasing a one-of-a-kind asymmetrical diamond-paved “Haute Joaillerie” set for its Mariah Carey collection, consisting of a necklace, a pair of earrings, and a ring crafted with round-cut and heart-shaped diamonds and set in 18k white gold, which the brand says is “certified ethical.”

The pieces are co-signed by both the artist and Chopard co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele. Price available upon request.

“Mariah and I have been friends for many years and first connected through our love of jewelry and music. She performed at our party in Cannes in 2019, and we had always talked about designing together,” said Scheufele. The house’s creations are worn on red carpets around the world at events such as the Oscars and the Cannes Film Festival.

Scheufele described the Chopard “Happy Butterfly” collection as a modern butterfly design paired with Chopard’s iconic “Happy Diamonds,” which are free-floating stones that move around as the wearer does. “Since Mariah has a personal passion for unique pieces, we knew we wanted to do a few one-of-a-kind creations that would be truly exceptional. This led to an extraordinary diamond suite,” Scheufele said.

Carey, who has sold more than 200 million albums with No. 1 hits like “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” sees the butterfly as a metaphor for spreading her wings after her divorce from former manager Tommy Mottola.

She also has a Van Cleef & Arpels butterfly ring.

Mariah Carey Teams Up with David Morales to Release Extended Edit of No. 1 Single “Honey”

Mariah Carey is sweetening up one of her hits…

The 53-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer has released an extended edit of “Honey” as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of her 1997 classic, Butterfly.

The nearly eight-minute edit comes from the extremely capable hands of David Morales, the legendary NYC DJ/producer/remixer who helped deliver pop divas to the clubs in the ’80s and ’90s and beyond via remixes of Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Madonna and a litany of other divas.

Morales worked extensively with Carey throughout her career via official edits of hits including “Dreamlover,” “Fantasy” and “Shake It Off,” among many others.

Coming as a bonus track on the Butterfly re-release, Morales’ “Honey – Another Taste of Honey David Morales Remix” edit throws the kitchen sink at the track, bumping up the BPM, turning the sizzle dial all the way up via layers of percussion, rhythm guitar, a string section, a choir and revamped powerhouse vocals from Carey.

The edit comes among other re-release bonuses including 4K remastered versions of “Honey” and “The Roof” music videos, a new “Honey” music video documentary, classic live performances being released via Carey’s YouTube during September, Butterfly on cassette, and Deluxe Butterfly 4LP and 2LP Editions.

“I will never forget the day I released this album to the world,” Carey wrote Friday (Sept. 16) on social media. “I had never felt more exposed and vulnerable yet free and euphoric at the same time. It was a true EMANCIPATION (no pun intended!) of my spirit, soul and innermost feelings which I poured into every lyric and every note on every song. 25 years later, it’s still one of the proudest moments of my life & career.”

Mariah Carey Talks Recording Multiple Projects Worth of New Music

It appears new Mariah Carey music could be on the horizon…

During a conversation with Rolling Stone‘s Rolling Stone Music Now, the 53-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer/songwriter revealed that she’d recorded multiple projects in her Butterfly Lounge studio during the pandemic.

“It’s about three or four different things,” Carey said. “One is a project that I’m almost finished with that I was doing some background vocal tweaks on. One is [new] songs that could be for the scripted series [by Lee Daniels] or a documentary. And then there’s a themed album. It’s something that people have been asking me to do for years, but it’s not done in the traditional sense. It’s not done yet, but I’m really excited about it. I’m working [on that album] with some very eclectic, newer artists, as well as some legendary folks.”

For the 25th anniversary of her sixth studio album Butterfly, Carey is releasing an expanded version of the LP with eight new bonus tracks, including a remake of “The Roof (When I Feel the Need)” with Brandy. However, she still looks back on the 1997 album and feels its single “Breakdown” wasn’t appreciated or supported by the label at the time.

“People did not believe in it, or believe in me in that genre and that moment,” she said, recalling that the label feared her change in sound was “too urban.” “By people, I mean the corporate morgue, the entities that run things. I mean, ‘Tha Crossroads’ was such a big record!”

Meanwhile, any new album would be a follow-up to Carey’s 2018 fan favorite studio set Caution, which featured singles “GTFO,” “With You” and “A No No.”

Rosalia to Perform at This Year’s Global Citizen Festival

Rosalia is taking the global stage…

The 29-year-old Spanish singer and songwriter will take part in this year’s Global Citizen Festival, which is set for Saturday, September 24 with twin shows in New York City and Accra, Ghana.

Rosalia will be part of the U.S. leg alongside Metallica, Charlie Puth, Jonas Brothers, Måneskin, Mariah Carey and Mickey Guyton.

Other New York City performers include Angélique Kidjo and Billy Porter.

Bollywood star and Global Citizen ambassador Priyanka Chopra Jonas will host Global Citizen Festival: NYC, to be staged in Central Park.

For its 10th anniversary edition, Global Citizen expands its program with a show at Ghana’s Black Star Square, featuring performances by Usher, SZA, Stormzy, Gyakie, H.E.R., Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Tems, and Uncle Waffles.

That show will mark the 65th anniversary of Ghana’s independence and the 20th anniversary of the African Union.

The annual concert-with-a-cause will call on world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly and ahead of the G20 and COP27 this November to invest in the future, and to end global hunger.

The international advocacy organization and its supporters want to action, not words.

Among its list of requests, an investment of $600 million into the future of women and girls; close the annual $10 billion climate financing shortfall; $500 million to help African farmers respond to the global food crisis; and provide urgent relief from crushing debts to end extreme poverty.

The health crisis has pushed nearly 100 million more people into extreme poverty and is “reversing recent trends of shrinking inequality, leading to the loss of at least three years of progress,” reads a statement. “Without urgent action now this backsliding will only worsen.”

Also, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has “aggravated the situation further, with as many as 323 million people now facing acute hunger, and 1.2 billion people now live in nations experiencing a perfect storm of food, energy, and financial crises. If we don’t take action now, as many as 200 million more people may be plunged into extreme poverty by November.”

The 2022 Global Citizen Festival will be broadcast and streamed on ABC, ABC News Live, FX, Hulu, iHeartRadio, TimesLIVE, Twitter, YouTube, and more.

ABC will also broadcast a primetime special Global Citizen Festival: Take Action NOW, on Sunday, September 25 at 7:00 pm ET. Additional tune-in details will follow in the weeks ahead.

Tickets to the festivals are free and can be earned by downloading the Global Citizen app or visiting www.globalcitizen.org to participate in its campaigns.

For each “action” taken, users earn points that can be redeemed for tickets.

More performers and special guests will be announced in due course.

Mariah Carey Releases First-Ever Vinyl of Her #1s Collection for Record Store Day

It’s a Firsts first for Mariah Carey this Record Store Day…

The 52-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer came out with a special vinyl release during this year’s Record Store Day for its 2022 event on Wednesday (Feb. 16).

Carey – who remains the best-selling female artist of all time, released her 1998 greatest-hits collection #1s on vinyl for the very first time.

Among the other releases for Record Store Day’s first iteration since 2019 are a 7-inch of Taylor Swift’s Folklore bonus track “The Lakes” with its orchestral version as the B-side while also being included on charity benefit album Portraits of Her, which celebrates female artists and music industry professionals while raising money for nonprofit We Are Moving the Needle.

Prince’s 1995 LP The Gold Experience also received a special pressing.

“For the past few years, our RSD Drops dates altered the focus of what we did—instead of being one part of what the Day was, the List became the entire focus,” said Record Store Day co-founder Carrie Colliton in a statement. “A way to get much-needed revenue and stock — and great music — into stores and then to customers’ collections. We specifically didn’t call those days Record Store Day, because they weren’t. They were very different, very necessarily so.”

She continued: “Now, we think stores have learned and adapted and are ready to bring back elements of a ‘traditional’ Record Store Day: bands and beer and fun and people and whatever parts of the party they like, in ways that make them, and their customers, comfortable. We also feel strongly that it’s important to focus on those stores themselves, and celebrate what they do year-round, in their communities.”
