The Late Armando Manzanero’s “20 Éxitos Originales” Reaches Top 10 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums Chart

Armando Manzanero’s legacy lives on…

For the first time in 32 years, the late Mexican Mayan musician, widely considered the premier Mexican romantic composer of the postwar era and one of the most successful composers of Latin America, ranks on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums chart.

Manzanero’s 20 Éxitos Originales, a compilation set originally released in 2007, arrives at No. 10 (on the chart dated January 9), following his death on December 28 due to COVID-19 complications. He was 85.

The 20-track set follows Manzanero’s first and only entry on Latin Pop Albums up to date: 20 Grandes Éxitos earned him his first top 10 in 1988 (No. 6 debut and peak).

The Yucatán singer-songwriter collects his second top 10 ever on any Billboard chart.

20 Éxitos Originales starts with 1,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Jan. 31, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Most of its opening sum derives from streaming activity.

The 51-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” remains the biggest song in the world, as her 1994 carol spends a third frame at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart.

The track also ascends to No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. survey.

Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” tops the Billboard Global 200 for a third week, up 55% to 130 million streams and 30% to 27,000 sold worldwide in the week ending December 24.

The song, first released on Carey’s 1994 holiday album Merry Christmas, claims the second-most weekly streams since the chart began, trailing only the weekly high for BTS‘ “Life Goes On” (152.5 million, Dec. 5).

Meanwhile, the insta-classc holiday track rises to No. 1, from No. 2, to top the Global Excl. U.S. chart for the first time, with 58.5 million streams (up 22%) and 11,000 sold (up 3%) in territories outside the U.S. in the week ending December 24.

The two charts (the latest of which are dated January 2, 2021) premiered in September and rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The Billboard Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the U.S.

Chart rankings are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

The 51-year-old half-Venezuelan American’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” returns to No. 1, from No. 2, on the Billboard Hot 100 for a fifth total week atop the chart.

The song, originally released on Carey’s album Merry Christmas in 1994, first reigned for three weeks last holiday season and added its fourth frame at No. 1 two weeks ago.

Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” on Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings, drew 54.9 million U.S. streams (up 35%) and sold 12,000 downloads (up 24%) in the week ending December 24, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. It also tallied 33.7 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 11%) in the week ending December 27.

As it logs its fifth total week atop the Hot 100, Carey’s insta-classic solely claims the mark for the most time at No. 1 among holiday hits in the chart’s 62-year, five-month history. One other Yuletide track had led the list: “The Chipmunk Song,” by The Chipmunks with David Seville, for four weeks beginning in December 1958.

Carey’s holiday track also becomes the first song to rank at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in three distinct years: 2019, 2020 and, now, 2021. It has led the lists dated December 21 and 28, 2019; January 4, 2020; December 19, 2020; and January 2, 2021.

The carol spends a ninth total week at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart and rises 6-2 on Digital Song Sales and 17-13 on Radio Songs. It also rules the multi-metric Holiday 100 chart for a 45th week, of the chart’s 50 total weeks since the list launched in 2011; it has topped the tally for 30 consecutive weeks, dating to the start of the 2015-16 holiday season.

Carey adds her record-extending 84th career week at No. 1 on the Hot 100, dating to the chart’s August 4, 1958, inception.

“Christmas” last year became Carey’s 19th Hot 100 No. 1, the most among soloists and lifting her to within one of The Beatles‘ overall record 20. It also made Carey the first artist to have ranked at No. 1 on the chart in four distinct decades.

Tunefind has revealed its top shows, songs, movies and artists in terms of onscreen syncs for 2020, with the 41-year-old Panamanian American singer earning a spot.

Blacc comes in at No. 5 on the Top Artists list. He’s the highest ranking male and only Latinx artist on the chart.

Among this year’s placements, Blacc’s single“Honestly” was featured on This Is Us, while his single “Give a Little Bit” was featured on Greys Anatomy.

For the fourth year in a row, ABC‘s Grey’s Anatomy rules the top shows list, maintaining its stature as one of the top television shows for music discovery, a reputation it’s held since its premiere in 2005.

Calibre 50 Earns 18th No. 1 Song on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay Chart with “Te Volvería a Elegir”

The Regional Mexican band has landed its 18th No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart, as “Te Volvería a Elegir” climbs 3-1 on the December 19 survey.

The track posts a 21% gain in audience impressions, to 8.2 million, earned in the week ending December 13, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

Te Volvería,” written by lead singer and accordionist, Eden Muñoz, follows “Decepciones,” the band’s first pairing with Alejandro Fernández, which led the chart for one week (October 4-dated chart).

“Te Volvería” is the second single from the Sinaloan’s forthcoming effort slated for 2021. “Barquillero,” the album’s lead single, topped Regional Mexican Airplay for four consecutive weeks starting July 5.

With “Te Volvería’s” reign, Calibre 50 extends its record for the most No. 1s on the list, with 18. Conjunto Primavera and Intocable stand behind, both with 16.

Over on the all-genre Latin Airplay chart, the tune ascends 11-5, granting the band its 21st top 10. The group breaks away from a tie with Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizárraga and sets a record for the most top 10s among Regional Mexican bands since the chart launched in 1994.

On a broader spectrum, “Te Volvería” continues its ascent on Hot Latin Songs, which combines airplay, sales and streaming data, hiking 38-31 after peaking at No. 30 (December 5-dated list).

Kid Cudi Earns Third No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart with “Man on the Moon III: The Chosen”

The 36-year-old part-Mexican American rapper/singer has earned his third No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart as Man on the Moon III: The Chosen debuts at the top of the chart dated December 26.

The set, released through Republic Records on December 11, earned 144,000 equivalent album units in the week ending December 17, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

Prior to the Man on the Moon III landing, Kid Cudi previously reigned with the set’s previous installment, 2010’s Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager and 2013’s Indicud, both of which debuted in the top slot and reigned for one week.

Beyond the two leaders, Kid Cudi’s three other projects all reached the top five: 2009’s Man on the Moon: The End of Day (No. 5), 2014’s Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon (No. 2) and Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ (No. 5, 2017).

In addition, the act Kids See Ghosts, a duo comprising Kid Cudi and Kanye West, also claimed a No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with their eponymous LP in 2018.

Man on the Moon III: The Chosen likewise debuts at No. 1 on the Top Rap Albums chart and at No. 2 on the all-genre Billboard 200, behind Taylor Swift’s Evermore.

As Man on the Moon III arrives, 18 of its tracks dot the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, led by the top 10 arrivals “Tequila Shots” (No. 7) and “She Knows This” (No. 9). The pair produce Kid Cudi’s third and fourth top 10s, following his 2009 breakthrough “Day and Night” (No. 5) and this year’s “The Scotts,” billed to The Scotts, Travis Scott, and Kid Cudi, which debuted at No. 1 in May and held for one week.

With 18 simultaneous placements, Kid Cudi becomes the fifth artist to post at least that many entries on the chart in a single week. His company includes Drake, who has claimed 10 separate weeks with 18-plus entries, Lil Uzi Vert and The Weeknd, each with two such weeks, and Lil Wayne and Pop Smoke, who have managed the feat once apiece.

The late Mexican American singer, known as la Reina de la Musica Tejana, returns to Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums chart dated December 19 with her latest soundtrack Selena: The Series, Music From The Netflix’s Original Series

It’s Selena’s first entry and Top 10 since 2016 following the former No. 1 greatest hits compilation Lo Mejor De… (April 2016).

As Selena: The Series Soundtrack debuts at No. 8, Selena captures her sixth top 10, dating back to the 44-week ruler Dreaming of You (it debuted at No. 1 in August 1995).

Selena: The Series Soundtrack opens with 1,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Dec. 10, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, most of which stem from streaming activity. The first nine episodes of Selena: The Series premiered on Netflix on December 4.

The Latin Pop Albums chart ranks the most popular Latin pop albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). 

Selena:The Series soundtrack, which was released December 4 via Netflix/Capitol Latin/UMLE, net 1,000 SEA which equates to 1.2 million on-demand U.S. streams for the album’s songs in its opening week.

With The Series arriving in the current chart week, Selena also generates popularity with other efforts. Her last live set, Live, The Last Concert: Houston, Texas 1995, an April 2001 one-week chart ruler, re-enters at No. 7 after previously hitting No. 10 last holiday season.

Concurrently, Selena’s all-time favorite Ones (2002), moves closer to Shakira’s El Dorado’s 63-week No. 1 record holder, holding strong atop the list in its 61st week.

Jose Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad” Enters Top 10 on Billboard Hot 100 for First Time in 50 Years

The 75-year-old Puerto Rican musician, singer and composer’s “Feliz Navidad” moves up from No. 16 to No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, dated December 19, hitting the top 10 for the first time, 50 years after its original 1970 release. It previously reached No. 12 last holiday season.

The holiday classic sports gains of 6% to 23 million in radio airplay audience, 15% to 18.5 million U.S. streams and 34% to 3,000 sold, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

Feliciano adds his second Hot 100 top 10, after his debut entry, his cover of The Doors‘ “Light My Fire,” hit No. 3 in August 1968. (The Doors‘ original ruled for three weeks in the summer of 1967.) He has charted 11 total Hot 100 entries, as well as 16 titles, including eight top 10s, on the Hot Latin Songs chart.

The legendary singer, songwriter and guitarist is celebrating the 50th anniversary of “Feliz Navidad” this year. He performed on NBC‘s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and CBS Sunday Morning last week and, among other festivities, has a livestream scheduled for December 20.

Last month, Amazon Music Lat!n revealed a special 50th anniversary reimagining of Feliciano’s iconic holiday classic, featuring 30 artists including CNCOJon Secada, Frankie JJencarlos Canela, Pablo Montero, Julio Iglesias, Jr.Jason MrazGloria GaynorPatricia Manterola and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
