Omar Apollo Notches First No. 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists Chart

Omar Apollo has emerged

The 25-year-old Mexican American singer-songwriter has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart dated April 8.

Omar Apollo,Apollo leads the chart for the first time due to his debut studio album, Ivory.

Originally released in April 2022 via Warner Records, the set re-enters the Billboard 200 chart at No. 74 with 13,000 equivalent album units earned (up 265%) March 24-30, according to Luminate, exceeding its original No. 128 peak. The album’s vinyl edition arrived March 24, sparking 9,000 sold on vinyl in the tracking week.

Ivory concurrently debuts at No. 3 on the Vinyl Albums chart, and re-enters Top Album Sales at No. 12, a new best.

The set contains Apollo’s breakout single “Evergreen,” which reached No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October (becoming his first career entry), as well as No. 6 on Adult Alternative Airplay and No. 33 on Pop Airplay.

The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard’s “Hot” song genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings.

Omar Apollo Releases New Single “3 Boys”

Omar Apollo releases a personal new single…

The 25-year-old Mexican American singer/songwriter and Best New Artist Grammy nominee has released this first single of 2023, “3 Boys.”

On the track, Apollo just can’t seem to let go, despite his best efforts as he attempts to move on from a relationship, but realizes that there will always be more than one in the relationship.

His silky vocals arc perfectly over an aching melody, arriving at a falsetto zenith with the song’s blissful chorus.

“When I first started writing songs I would often write about unrequited love,” says Apollo of the new single. “Eventually I wrote songs about the complexities that come with a relationship. “3 Boys” was my first time writing about something non-monogamous. Having more than one person to talk to. 🧐 I wrote the song on a rainy day in London. I spent most of December there, mostly just because I wanted to get out of America. I ended up going to the studio more than I thought I would. I wrote the song with a friend of mine, Dylan Wiggins. It seemed like we were both in the same mind state for a song like this. The song wrote itself really quickly. I also had my friend Mustafa help me with a few lines after I played it for him.

“3 Boys” comes after Apollo was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2023 Grammy Awards. Apollo released his debut studio album, Ivory, in April 2022.

The record features guest appearances from Daniel Caesar and Kali Uchis, as well as the R&B singer-songwriter’s biggest hit to date, “Evergreen.”

Later in 2022, he released a deluxe version of the album, Ivory (Marfil).

But that wasn’t Obama’s only favorite by a Latin artist…

Best new artist Grammy nominee Omar Apollo made it onto Obama’s list.

The 25-year-old Mexican American artist made the list with his single “Tamaoatchi.”

Spanish Latin superstar Rosalia, who topped many critics’ year-end lists, was recognized by Obama for her song “Saoko.”

Omar Apollo Signs Global Publishing Deal with Concord Music Publishing

Omar Apollo is taking his music global…

The 25-year-old Mexican American bilingual singer has signed a global publishing deal with Concord Music Publishing.

Omar ApolloThe new partnership comes after Apollo’s major label debut album, Ivory (2022) via Warner Records, and a juggernaut soulful single “Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me At All),” which recently landed at No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The contract with Concord will cover his complete music catalog, which includes Ivory and future works.

“Omar has already proven himself to be one of the most exciting artists, pushing music forward,” Jeremy Yohai, senior vice president of A&R at Concord, said in a statement. “It’s been amazing working Omar together with Dylan [Shanks, management] and his current music success is only the beginning.”

“Working with Jeremy and the Concord Music Publishing team has been great,” adds Apollo.

The independent music publishing company also houses the works of acclaimed songwriters like The 1975, BIA, Daft Punk, and Duff McKagan, and represents the catalogs of legends such as Benny Blanco, Phil Collins, and Joan Sebastian among others.

Prior to Ivory, Apollo was already a force to be reckoned with. He carved out a space as a prolific, millions-streaming SoundCloud creator; entered the top 20 of Heatseekers Albums for both 2019’s EP Friends and 2020’s mixtape Apolonio releases; and earned two Latin Grammy nominations in 2021.

Plus, he’s been building a fervid, cult fan base that’s now ready for a mainstream breakthrough.

With a heady mix of pop-punk (“Talk”), delectable funk (“No Good Reason”), Spanglish trap (“Tamagochi”), and plenty of bluesy cuts in the new album, Apollo further testifies his genre-spanning prowess and song-crafting eminence and that’s equipped for global consumption. Proof? For starters, Ivory debuted at No. 1 of the Heatseekers Albums chart, and singles like “Evergreen” racked up about 66 million plays across streaming channels.

This year, the bilingual star made memorable appearances in major festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, and ALC Fest. He also guested on Good Morning AmericaThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and is preparing for another headlining tour Stateside that includes stops at Brooklyn’s King Theatre and Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre.
