Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti” Logs 10th Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican superstar returns to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart dated September 17 for a 10th nonconsecutive week atop the list with Un Verano Sin Ti.

Bad BunnyBad Bunny’s highly acclaimed album now solely has the most weeks at No. 1 in 2022, surpassing the nine weeks logged by the Encanto soundtrack. Further, Un Verano Sin Ti has the most weeks at No. 1 in more than a year, since Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album spent 10 weeks (all consecutive, from its debut) at No. 1 (Jan. 23-March 27, 2021, charts).

Un Verano Sin Ti earned 99,500 equivalent album units in the U.S. (down 6%) in the week ending September 8, according to Luminate.

Since 2000, only nine albums — including Un Verano Sin Ti — have notched at least 10 weeks at No. 1. Among those is Santana’Supernatural, which captured a total of 12 weeks at No. 1 — three in 1999 and nine in 2000.

Un Verano Sin Ti debuted at No. 1 on the May 21-dated Billboard 200 and has yet to depart the top two rungs of the chart for its entire 18-week run on the list thus far.

Since the Billboard 200 began publishing on a regular, weekly basis in March of 1956, Un Verano Sin Ti is the first album to spend its first 18 weeks on the chart in the top two.

Previously, Drake’s Views spent its first 17 weeks in the top two, on the May 21-Sept. 10, 2016-dated charts.

Un Verano Sin Ti has bounced between Nos. 1 and 2 on the Billboard 200 for a total of six distinct visits to the No. 1 slot.

Meanwhile, Un Verano Sin Ti is the first album with six separate visits to No. 1 since Adele’s 21 had 10 distinct stays at No. 1 in 2011-12, for a total of 24 weeks atop the list. It debuted at No. 1 on the March 12, 2011-dated list and notched its final week atop the chart on June 23, 2012.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.

Paola Núñez to Star in Netflix’s Live-Action “Resident Evil” Series

Neflix has revealed the leading cast for its live-action Resident Evil series, with the 43-year-old Mexican actress making the list.

Núñez joins a cast that includes Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker, Adeline Rudolph, Siena Agudong, Tamara Smart and Ella Balinska.

The eight-episode drama series, inspired by Capcom’s hugely popular horror game franchise, hails from Supernatural executive producer/co-showrunner Andrew Dabb and produced by Constantin Film, which is behind the Resident Evil movie. The series will feature a new story across two timelines.

In the first timeline, fourteen-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it seems and their father may be concealing dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world.

Cut to the second timeline, well over a decade into the future: there are less than fifteen million people left on Earth. And more than six billion monsters — people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now thirty, struggles to survive in this New World, while the secrets from her past – about her sister, her father and herself – continue to haunt her.

Bronwen Hughes will direct and executive produce the first two episodes.

German production and distribution company Constantin Film is the studio.

The live-action series will be the streamer’s second foray into the Resident Evil universe. The first is the animate series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, which stars video game voice actors Nick Apostolides and Stephanie PaniselloResident Evil: Infinite Darkness will debut on July 8.

Mercedes de la Cruz to Star in Hallmark Channel’s Rom-Com “Right In Front of Me”

The Latina actress, who hails from Canada, will star as a lead opposite Janel Parrish and Marco Grazzini in Right In Front of Me, Hallmark Channel’s upcoming rom-com.

Written by Julie Sherman Wolfe and directed by Linda-Lisa Hayter, Right In Front of Me revolves around Carly (Parrish), the owner of a bridal styling business, gets a second chance at romance with her college crush but isn’t sure how to impress him until her new friend Nick starts giving her advice. Soon she learns who the right man for her really is.

The movie, part of Hallmark Channel’s “Spring Fling” programming event this spring, premieres Saturday, April 17.

De La Cruz plays Carly’s assistant and friend Jennifer, an efficient woman with a keen sense of humor who is well aware of Carly’s previous romantic disasters.

De La Cruz most recently co-starred in Lonestar Christmas for Lifetime. She also appeared in Supernatural, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Get Shorty and opposite Freddie Highmore in Bates Motel.

Gina Rodriguez Appears in the CW’s New Inclusion & Representation Campaign #CWOpenToAll

The network has launched #CWOpenToAll, a new on-air, digital, social and print campaign designed to reinforce the network’s commitment to inclusion and representation, featuring the 34-year-old Puerto Rican actress and Jane the Virgin star.

“We think this campaign really captures the spirit and mission of the CW and why our fans come to us,” said network president Mark Pedowitz. “We are committed to making sure our viewers see themselves represented on screen, and that we also have diverse voices being heard behind the camera.”

Pedowitz points out that 12 out of the CW’s 17 series this season are created and/or executive produced by women or people of color. Additionally, the network sees 47% women series regulars across its shows and 49% people of color series regulars.

“We are proud of the strides we’ve made and are continuing to make, and #CWOpenToAll reflects that, and helps drive the message that we want to be known as a place where all are welcome to be, and all are welcome to watch,” he continued.

#CWOpenToAll will feature a video component, with spots airing during the network’s primetime programming as well as being placed in house ad slots on cwtv.com, the CW and CW Seedapps and on social channels. There will also be a print portion of the campaign, which begins rolling out Monday in major market newspapers and industry trade publications. The message for both is that “the CW is a place for everyone, and all are welcome on-screen and in our audience.”

Gloria Trevi to be Inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame

The Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame has revealed which five songwriters will be inducted at the prestigious hall this year, with the 50-year-old Mexican singer/songwriter making the grade.

Trevi joins a roster that includes previous inductees, including last year’s Erika Ender, Carlos Vives and Ana Gabriel, to name a few.

Besides having a rebellious and over-the-top personality onstage, Trevi is also known as a songwriter and philanthropist. In her nearly three-decade music career, she’s penned more than 400 songs and released 13 albums, four of which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart: Gloria in 2011, El Amor in 2015, Immortal in 2016 and Versus in 2017.

Joining Trevi is Chucho Valdés.

As a pianist, composer and arranger, the 76-year-old Cuban artist become one of the most influential figures in modern Afro-Cuban jazz. He’s a winner of six Grammys and three Latin Grammys. On November 27, 2010, Chucho peaked at No. 8 on the Latin Pop Albumschart thanks to his collaboration with Buika on her album El Ultimo Trago.

Ecuadorian singer and songwriter Carlos Rubira Infante has also made the list. He’s known for bringing to the forefront the country’s national music style, pasillo and pasacalle music. At 96 years old, he was awarded the National Prize in ArtPremio Eugenio Espejo” in 2008 from the president of Ecuador and has penned more than 400 songs.

Another honoree, Fernando Osorio.

Born in Colombia but raised in Venezuela, this singer-songwriter is the man behind some of the most unforgettable Latin songs. His first international success was with “Solo con un Beso,” a song he wrote for Ricardo Montaner in 1988, peaking at No. 7 on the Hot Latin Songs chart. Osorio nabbed the Latin Grammy for best tropical song in 2004 for composing Celia Cruz‘s “Rie y Llora” before her death.

And last but not least… KC Porter will be honored.

Bon Jovi, Janet Jackson and Laura Pausini all have one thing in common: KC Porter. The American record producer, songwriter, musician and singer is known for crossing over many artists into the Spanish-speaking market. He’s a nine-time Grammy winner for his production work on Carlos Santana‘s Supernatural and has written and produced some of Ricky Martin’s biggest hits, including “María.”

For the past six years, the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame, founded by Desmond Child and Rudy Pérez, has honored the world’s greatest Latin music creators and their memorable songs.

The 2018 honorees will be officially inducted at the sixth annual La Musa Awards ceremony and gala, taking place October 18 at the James L. Knight Center in Miami.

Laz Alonso to Star in Amazon’s Drama Series “The Boys”

The 43-year-old Afro-Cuban American actor has landed a role in Amazon’s straight-to-series drama The Boys.

The project comes from from Supernatural creator and Timeless co-creator Eric KripkePreacher‘s Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen and Sony Pictures Television.

Written by Kripke based on the comic book by Garth Ennis & Darick Robertson and directed by Goldberg & Rogen, The Boys is set in a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame. It revolves around a group of vigilantes known informally as “the boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.

Alonso will play Mother’s Milk. Second in command of the Boys, he’s a great detective, highly intelligent and observant and an intuitive investigator.

Alonso, whose television series credits include NBC’s The Mysteries of Laura IDeception, as well as A&E’s Breakout Kings, appeared in Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit and will next be seen opposite Paula Patton and Omar Epps in the Lionsgate feature Traffik.

Martinez to Star in Lifetime’s Original Movie About the Menendez Brothers

The 45-year-old Mexican American actor is set to star in Lifetime’s original movie about Lyle and Erik Menendez’s infamous double-murder case.

Based on the true story, the movie explores the inner lives and motivation behind the murders of entertainment executive Jose Menendez and his wife Kitty at the hands of their sons Lyle and Erik in 1989. In the months that followed the killings, Lyle and Erik spent their inheritance lavishly, adding to investigators’ suspicions that they were involved in the parents’ deaths. After months of guilt consumed Erik, he confessed to the murders to his psychologist, leading to the eventual arrests of him and older brother Lyle.

Their Los Angeles trial became a national sensation as the public devoured court testimony and the brothers testified that the murders were driven by a lifetime of sexual abuse by their father. After a mistrial and deadlocked jury, the brothers were later re-tried and convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole. Erik and Lyle remain incarcerated today, serving their time in separate prisons nearly 30 years since murdering their parents.

Martinez will portray Jose Menendez, while Nico Tortorella (Younger) and Myko Olivier will play brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez, respectively. They join previously announced Courtney Love, who plays mother Kitty Menendez.

Martinez’s credits include American Crime, Sons of Anarchy, Supernatural and Saving Grace.

Garcia to Star on AMC’s “Fear The Walking Dead”

The 32-year-old Cuban actress has been cast on AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead.

Garcia, who appeared on Fox‘s drama series Prison Break, will portray Lucia, a solider who is connected with a religious group that see the walkers as part of an evolution.

“It’s not a normal job, it’s a Fear The Walking Dead job,” said Garcia alum of what it was like to join the show to big laughs from the crowd.

The second half of the series current season will debut on Sunday, August 21 and will feature a separated group still in Mexico with some religious groups embracing the walkers and road gangs wrecking bloodthirsty havoc in the anarchy of a society that has fallen apart.

“For the first time we are going to see our characters really having to learn to survive in the apocalypse,” says executive producer Dave Erickson. “We are going to see a level of intensity and violence in the back half that we haven’t seen before,” the showrunner added.

Having premiered to record breaking ratings on August 23 last year with a six-episode run, FearTWD saw its second 15-episode season start on April 10 and went on midseason break on May 22. The series was renewed for a third season on April 15.

Garcia’s credits include appearances on CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, The Cleaner and Supernatural.

Ruivivar to Star in the CW Drama Pilot “Frequency”

The 45-year-old part-Spanish actor has been cast in Frequency, the CW’s drama pilot based on Toby Emmerich’s sci-fi thriller.

The television project, written by Supernatural showrunner Jeremy Carver, also stars Riley Smith, Peyton List and Mekhi Phifer.

Frequency centers on Raimy (List), a police detective in 2016 who discovers that she’s able to speak via a ham radio with her estranged father, Frank Sullivan (Smith), a detective who died in 1996.

Ruivivar will play Stan Hope, an NYPD plainclothes detective who is Frank’s handler with the department, who calls the shots on Frank’s day-to-day undercover operation.

Ruivivar’s credits include Banshee and American Horror Story.

ABC Orders Martinez’s “American Crime” to Series

ABC has ordered to series American Crime, which stars the 42-year-old Latino actor.

From ABC Studios, the dark, racially charged drama, starring Timothy Hutton and Felicity Huffman, centers on a young couple in Modesto, California, who are attacked in their home.

Matt Skokie, a war vet, was killed, and his wife, Lily, is unconscious, barely hanging on. Both sets of parents are at her bedside hoping for a miracle while four suspects are about to be arrested. The case sends shock waves into the community stirring up tensions across racial lines in this gritty drama.

Benito Martinez, best known for hisroles on Sons of Anarchy, Supernatural and The Shield, portrays Alonzo Gutierrez.

Martinez’s costars W. Earl Brown, Richard Cabral, Penelope Ann Miller, Elvis Nolasco and Johnny Ortiz.
