Becky G Earns First Top 5 Album on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums Chart with “Mala Santa”

It’s five for fighting for Becky G

The 22-year-old Mexican American bilingual singer/rapper has notched her first top 5 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums and Latin Rhythm Albums charts as Mala Santa, her full-length debut album and first chart entry, arrives at No. 3 on both tallies dated November 2.

“Extremely blessed for this debut spot on the chart,” Becky G tells Billboard of her Top Latin Albums feat. “Everything feels so special with this being my very first album and I’m so happy that people love the album just as much as I loved creating it.”

The all-Spanish set — released via Kemosabe/RCA/Sony Music Latin— opens with 8,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending October 24, according to Nielsen Music, with most units stemming from streaming activity.

“I’ve been doing this since I was nine years old,” Becky G adds. “It’s so cool to be able to still say, ‘This is only the beginning’.”

The Top Latin Albums chart ranks the most popular Latin albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Mala Santa logged 7,000 in SEA units equating to 9 million on-demand audio streams earned for the album’s tracks in its first week. It concurrently earned 1,000 in album sales.

Beyond Top Latin Albums, Mala also arrives at No. 3 on the Latin Rhythm Albums chart; her first chart visit.

Becky G now becomes just the third woman to nab a top 10 debut in 2019 and earns the second-biggest week this year for a Latin album by a woman. She follows Karol G whose album Ocean opened at No. 2 (May 18) with 12,000 equivalent album units (the largest week for a Latin album by a woman in 2019), and Natti Natasha with IlumiNatti (7,000 units; No. 3, March 2).

Additionally, five of Becky G’s Mala Santa’s 16 tracks have reached the Hot Latin Songs chart (which blends airplay, digital sales and streaming data), dating back to 2017 when Becky notched her first top 5 as “Mayores,” featuring Bad Bunnypeaked at No. 3. “Sin Pijama,” with Natti Natasha followed in 2018 (a No. 4 peak high). “Cuando Te Besé,” with Paulo Londra, “Dollar,” with Myke Towers, and “Mala Santa,” which surges 30-21 on the current tracking week, all arrived in 2019.
