Netflix to Premiere Gina Rodriguez’s Animated Series “Carmen Sandiego” in January

Netflix has announced a January premiere date for its upcoming reboot of the classic animated series Carmen Sandiego, featuring the voice of the 34-year-old Puerto Rican actress and Jane the Virgin star in the title role.

The new Carmen Sandiego features not only a new crop of international capers packed but will look into Carmen’s past to tell who she is and why she became a super thief. Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) voices Player, Carmen’s chief accomplice and friend.

The character debuted in a 1980s computer game franchise Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? and probably is best known for the Greg Lee-hosted game show that aired on PBS from 1991-95. The animated series ran from 1994 to 1999 on Fox Kids.

Carmen Sandiego debuts Friday, January 18 on the internet TV network.

Salma Hayek to Star in Sally Potter’s Latest, Still-Untitled Film

The 52-year-old Mexican actress has joined the impressive cast for The Party and Orlando writer-director Sally Potter’s latest film.

In addition to the Frida star, the cast for the untitled drama includes Javier BardemElle FanningChris Rock and Laura Linney.

Production is underway in Spain on the feature; it will also shoot on location in New York in January.

The untitled drama follows 24 turbulent hours in the life of father and daughter Leo (Bardem) and Molly (Fanning) as she grapples with the challenges of dealing with her father’s apparently chaotic mental state. As they weave their way around New York City, their ordinary but stressful day takes on a hallucinatory and epic quality as Leo is flowing in and out of several parallel lives; a passionate marriage with his childhood sweetheart Dolores (Hayek) in Mexico; a struggling career as a drummer in Manhattan with his more successful lover, Adam (Rock); and a life of solitude on a remote Greek island, where a chance encounter with two young tourists unmasks some uncomfortable truths.

Jaime Camil to Star in the CBS Multi-Comedy “Rags to Riches”

The 45-year-old Brazilian-Mexican actor and Jane the Virgin scene-stealer will headline and executive produce Rags to Riches, a multi-camera comedy at CBS from Jane the Virgin creator/executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman’s Sutton St. Productions.

In Riches To Rags, written by Will & Gracexecutive producer Alex Herschlag, when an outrageously wealthy trust fund baby is cut off by his father, he and his wife move into her sister’s Reseda condo where they delight in the “charms” of the working class but mourn the loss of being the 1% of the 1%.

Camil executive produces via his production company ECABA alongside Herschlag, Urman and Klein as well as Jane exec producer Ben Silverman.

Camil himself often had been talked about for a potential Jane spinoff built around his larger-than-life character, telenovela star Rogelio De La Vega.

Davi Santos to Star in “47 Meters Down – Uncaged”

The 28-year-old Brazilian actor will star in 47 Meters Down – Uncaged, the sequel to box office breakout 47 Meters Down.

Santos, best known for playing Sir Ivan, The Gold Rangeron the television series Power Rangers Dino Charge, joins a cast that includes Sophie Nélisse, John Corbett, Nia LongCorinne Foxx, Sistine Stallone, Brianne Tjuand Khylin Rhambo.

Principal photography is underway in the Dominican Republic with Byron Allen’s ESMP U.S. release in 3,500+ screens set for June 28, 2019. Johannes Roberts returns to direct the sequel from a script he co-wrote with his 47 Meters Down co-writer, Ernest Riera. Foxx and Stallone, the daughters of Jamie Foxxand Sylvester Stallone, respectively, will be making their film debuts.

The film will tell the story of four teens diving in a ruined underwater city, who quickly find themselves in a watery hell as their adventure turns to horror when they learn they are not alone in the submerged caves. As they swim deeper into the claustrophobic labyrinth of caves they enter the territory of the deadliest shark species in the ocean.

The breakout original earned almost $60M globally off a $5.5M budget.

Brat, the Gen Z-focused digital studio and network, has given the green light to a new series featuring the 20-year-old Mexican-American up-and-coming professional boxer.

On the Ropesthe eight-episode series fronted by Garcia, is set in the world of underground boxing.

Garcia, who is 16-0 as a pro, has 1.4 million Instagram followers and is on the December 15 Canelo AlvarezRocky Fielding undercard at Madison Square Garden.

On the Ropes debuts February 25.

The Brat network has more than 2.5 million subscribers on YouTube, with 15 million unique viewers, says the company, which focuses on using social media stars to build teen-based programming for platforms like YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. Nearly 3 billion minutes of content were consumed in the past year, Brat says.

The 26-year-old half-Mexican and part-Spanish American singer and her Pentatonix group mates have released a visual for their latest holiday track “Where Are You, Christmas.

The music video features the group standing atop a chilly rooftop while they effortlessly glide through emotional lyrics like, “My world is changing/I’m rearranging/Does that mean Christmas changes too?”

Near the end of the video, Pentatonix’s voices come together for a series of high notes and intoxicating harmonies while snow falls around them.

The track appears on the a cappella group’s recently-released Christmas is Here album, featuring holiday classics like “Here Comes Santa Claus,” “Jingle Bells,” “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree,” and more with the unique Pentatonix treatment.

Selena Gomez Earns First No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart with “Taki Taki”

The 26-year-old Mexican American singer/actress has earned her first chart-topper on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart with “Taki Taki,” her collaboration with DJ Snake, Cardi B and Ozuna.

The track climbs 2-1 on the December 8-dated chart, as “Taki Taki” ascends with a 14 percent lift in audience, rising to 14.53 million audience impressions in the week ending December 2, according to Nielsen Music.

It’s the first leader for DJ Snake, the eighth for Ozuna and third for Cardi B.

Gomez first entered the chart in 2013 with “Come & Get It,” and “Taki Taki” marks her first ranking in Latin Airplay’s top 40.

The rise earns Cardi B her third chart topper and the eighth for Ozuna, seven of his No. 1s have arrived in 2018.

Notably, DJ Snake is the first European DJ/producer to lead the Latin Airplay chart in 2018. He’s also the first DJ/producer to be No. 1 in a lead role on a track since Willy William — another DJ/producer of French descent — topped the list with “Mi Gente.” The latter, credited to J Balvinand Willy William (and featuring Beyoncé on a popular remix), was No. 1 for 12 nonconsecutive weeks between September 16 and December 16, 2017.

Based on the Dark Horsecomic book series created and written by Gerard Wayand illustrated by Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy follows a group of “gifted” children adopted by a billionaire who come back home to solve the mystery of their father’s death. Also, the end of the world is imminent.

Known only by numbers, the new teaser trailer gives us the first look at the six surviving “gifted” children and a sneak peek at their powers — and dancing — as they to investigate their father’s death and attempt to save the world from destruction as they try to reconcile their estranged relationship with each other.

From Gotham executive producer Ken Woodruff, Matt Corman, Chris Ordand Universal Television, the project was written and executive produced by Woodruff and with a pilot directed by Mark Pellington.

The Enemy Within is a fast-paced thriller set in the world of counterintelligence.

Peña will play Anna Cruz, an ambitiousCIAanalyst enlisted by FBISpecial Agent, Will Keaton (Chestnut) to assist in the hunt for a former Russian SVR agent turned rogue operative who’s responsible for the deaths of her fellow CIA officers. Cruz’s arrival tests the limits of the unprecedented partnership between Keaton and former CIA Deputy Director turned traitor, Erica Shepherd (Carpenter).

Peña was a series regular on Fox’s 24: Legacy opposite Corey Hawkinsand Miranda Otto and appeared recently in Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated film The Post.

Netflix Renews Diego Luna’s “Narcos: Mexico” for Second Season

Netflix has renewed its the drug trafficking drama, starring the 38-year-old Mexican actor, director and producer, for a second season.

Narcos: Mexico explores the origins of the modern drug war by going back to its roots, beginning at a time when the Mexican trafficking world was a loose and disorganized confederation of independent growers and dealers. Witness the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s as Félix Gallardo (Luna) takes the helm, unifying traffickers in order to build an empire. When DEA agent Kiki Camarena (Michael Peña) moves his wife and young son from California to Guadalajara to take on a new post, he quickly learns that his assignment will be more challenging than he ever could have imagined. As Kiki garners intelligence on Félix and becomes more entangled in his mission, a tragic chain of events unfold, affecting the drug trade and the war against it for years to come.

The series premiered on November 16 with Eric Newman serving as executive producer and showrunner.

The series is a companion to its predecessor Narcos, which ran for three seasons.
