Benicio Del Toro is about to have an Indian summer…

The 45-year-old Puerto Rican actor has been cast in Jimmy Picard, a drama being adapted from Reality and Dream: Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian by acclaimed ethnologist and psychologist Georges Devereux.

It’s the true story of the friendship between a Native American and a French psychoanalyst.

The Oscar-winning actor will play the title character, a Plains Indian member of the Blackfeet nation who returns from the World War II battlefield and experiences various medical symptoms, none of which can be explained physically. He travels to the famed Winter Hospital in Topeka, Kansas, where he encounters Georges Devereux, a French ethno-psychiatrist considered to have a strong understanding of the modern Native American. Through their sessions, the two men, foreign to themselves and to their country, become friends.

Shooting on the film, which will also star Mathieu Amalric and Gina McKee, is set to begin on June 18 in Michigan.

Meanwhile, del Toro will next appear in the Oliver Stone’s Savages with Salma Hayek and Blake Lively.

Adam Rodriguez’s latest film Magic Mike may not open in theaters for 16 days… But it’s already getting massive buzz, mainly due to the film’s latest just-released trailer.

The restricted trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s highly anticipated male stripper movie—loosely inspired by Channing Tatum’s own life as a stripper—may be shorter than the trailer released in the United Kingdom about a week ago, but it’s definitely more fleshed out… And, by fleshed out, we mean that you’ll see plenty of Tatum’s and the 36-year-old Puerto Rican/Cuban American CSI: Miami star’s skin, as well as that of his co-stars Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey and Matt Bomer.

“The audience will most definitely get to see PLENTY,” Rodriguez previously told Celebuzz! “How much of plenty will be up to Steven in the editing room and the audience keeping their eyes open in the movie theater.”

Magic Mike opens in theaters nationwide on June 29.

Sanchez Performs National Anthem at Game One of the NBA Finals

She may not have taken home the American Idol crown… But Jessica Sanchez is still singing to the rafters and impressing audiences with her dynamic voice.

Less than three weeks after delivering two memorable Memorial Day performances on national television, the 16-year-old half-Mexican singer wowed the crowd before game one of the NBA Finals.

Before the start of the game between the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night, Sanchez performed an inspired rendition of the National Anthem that results in massive cheers from the crowd.

Before singing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the pint-sized singer from San Diego was asked by one of her followers on Twitter who she was cheering for. Her response? “im all about thunder tonight! ;)”

And the Thunder rolled in Game One… Teaming up with Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant took over the game and outscored LeBron James‘ team in the second half to beat the Heat 105-94.

The crowd even chanted “MVP” as Durant sealed the victory with two foul shots in the final 12 seconds of the game.

Vega Performs the Theme Song for Her Latest Telenovela

Zuria Vega is pulling double-duty on her latest telenovela

The 23-year-old Mexican actress isn’t just starring as Luciana Jacinto Flores in Televisa’s Un Refugio para el Amor, she also performs the telenovela’s official theme song “Amor sincero” with Alexander Acha.

Amor sincero”—Vega’s official debut song—is already getting serious airplay on national radio in Mexico.

“It was a completely new experience for me, I had a lot of fun with Mau and Lalo, who guided me and helped me to feel comfortable when time came to record [the song],” says Vega. “It’s a very special theme in my career since it represents my work in Un refugio para el amor.”

 

The song, which premiered this week, can be found on Acha’s  album, La vida es… Edición Platino.

Hayek Strips Down in “Americano”

The 45-year-old Mexican actress plays a Tijuana stripper and prostitute in writer/director/actor Mathieu Demy’s film Americano.

The tense new drama centers on a Parisian real estate agent (Demy) who ends up going to Mexico to trace his roots after his mother dies.

Hayek plays a Tijuana stripper and prostitute who may or may not have been friends with Demy’s character’s late mother.

But this actually isn’t the first time Hayek has played a stripper: She also starred as a dancer in Dogma and From Dusk Till Dawn.

Americano—which Demy calls a tribute to his famous parents, filmmakers Agnes Varda and Jacques Demy—hits theaters June 15.

Vázquez Sounds Releases Cover of The Beatles’ “Let It Be”

Following successful covers of music by Adele, Mariah Carey and more,  Vázquez Sounds is back with the band-of-siblings’ fifth cover…

This time 10-year-old lead singer Angie Vázquez and her teenage brothers Abelardo and Gustavo—who play the keyboard, guitar and drums—have just released the video of the band’s version of The Beatles’ “Let It Be.”

In the black and white video, the Mexican siblings—who became instant internet sensations with their cover of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”—offer a simple-but-impactful take on the popular Beatles tune.

In addition, the Mexicali siblings have been invited by John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono to join former RBD singer Anahi as ambassadors of peace her The Non Violence Project. As part of their responsibilities, the trio will promote the message of peace at its concerts and presentations.

Meanwhile, Vázquez Sounds’ cover of “Let It Be” will be available on iTunes on Tuesday, June 19.

Cruz to Star in “The Counselor” and “Los Amantes Pasajeros” in 2012

It looks like Penelope Cruz will be having an incredibly busy remainder of the year…

The 38-year-old Spanish actress has reportedly joined the stellar cast of Ridley Scott’s next big project The Counselor, as previously predicted.

Cruz—who will soon be appearing on the big screen in Woody Allen’s To Rome With Love—will appear as Michael Fassbender’s love interest in the dramatic film that’s been called No Country For Old Men on steroids.

Along with Cruz and Fassbender, The Counselor will star Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem and Cameron Diaz.

In addition, Cruz could be teaming up again with noted Spanish director Pedro Almodovar this summer on his latest project, Los Amantes Pasajeros, according to Deadline.com.

The Almodovar-penned comedy, which will star 36-year-old Spanish actress Paz Vega, follows a group of travelers who are placed in life-threatening situation aboard a plane flying to Mexico City. The passengers are defenseless in the face of danger, which provokes colorful confessionals that are their way to put out of mind the possibility they might be about to die.

Los Amantes Pasajeros will begin shooting this summer in Madrid.

Lopez to Provide Original Songs for Disney’s “Frozen”

The 37-year-old composer and lyricist—who has won three Tony Awards for his first two Broadway musicals, Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon—and his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez will be bringing their musical talents to Walt Disney Animation’s upcoming animated film Frozen.

The film, loosely based on 1845′s The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen, will feature original songs by the musically inclined couple, which worked on Disney’s 2011 Winnie the Pooh.

Idina Menzel, who won a Tony award for originating the role of misunderstood Elphaba in Broadway’s Wicked, will play the Snow Queen in Frozen, while Kristen Bell will co-star as Anna, a young girl who ventures to find Menzel’s character and end the perpetual winter that has befallen their mythical kingdom, according to the studio.

Still uncast in the movie is the role of the leading man, Kristoff, a mountain climber who leads Anna on her quest through snowy peaks and dangerous cliffs to find the legendary Snow Queen.

The digitally animated feature will open in November 2013.

Meirelles Reuniting with Rachel Weisz on Latest Film

Noted filmmaker Fernando Meirelles is reuniting with actress Rachel Weisz on what could be his next award-winning film.

The 56-year-old noted Brazilian filmmaker and Weisz, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Meirelles’ The Constant Gardener, are back together on 360.

The dramatic thriller, which will be distributed by Magnolia Pictures, follows the stories of several people from contrasting social backgrounds through their intersecting relationships.

Along with Weisz, the film stars Anthony Hopkins, Jude Law, Ben Foster, Jamel Debbouze and Moritz Bleibtreu.

Magnolia Pictures is planning a video on demand premiere for 360 on June 29, ahead of the film’s August 3 theatrical release.

Meirelles rose to acclaim for helming the critically acclaimed Brazilian film City of God, which garnered him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director in 2004. He was also nomnated for a Golden Globe for Best Director for The Constant Gardener.

Garcia to Guest-Star on “Californication”

The 39-year-old half-Cuban/half-Chilean American actor/comedian has landed a guest-starring role on Showtime’s Californication.

Garcia will be reunited with his former Lost co-star Maggie Grace, who was previously cast in the major recurring role of Faith, a rock star groupie and muse who befriends David Duchovny’s character Hank Moody. Not surprisingly, their relationship becomes more than platonic.

Garcia, who most recently starred in Fox’s short-lived sci-fi series Alcatraz, will play an old contact from Faith’s past.

Grace first tweeted the news of their reunion, sharing a photo of the pair on set, saying:

“Cue music: ‘reunited & it feels so goood’ #lost reunion @Jorgegarcia & i join forces in upcoming #Californication ep!”

Since his days on the mysterious island on ABC’s Lost, Garcia has appeared on How I Met Your Mother, Fringe and the short-lived Mr. Sunshine.
