Martinez Releasing New Fragrance, Cry Baby Perfume Milk

Melanie Martinez is proving that (perfume) milk, it does a body good…

The 21-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer and songwriter has launched her own perfume.

Melanie Martinez

Martinez’s Cry Baby album inspired her to concoct a fragrance for her fans, aptly titled Cry Baby Perfume Milk.

“The idea for this perfume has been cultivating in my brain since the moment I finished writing my album,” she said in an exclusive statement to Billboard.

Cry Baby Perfume Milk is a blend of sugary and spicy scents, with burnt caramel and woods combining for what she describes as a “nostalgic and sweet” smell.

It may seem a bit strange to think about spraying milk on your body, but the perfume’s name is simply a reflection of the bottle’s shape. Going along with Melanie’s “warped childhood aesthetic,” the fragrance comes in a vintage baby bottle, twist-off rubber top and all. While the perfume itself actually does look like milk, it sprays on clear.

Adding to the uniqueness of the perfume, it’s the first fragrance to be directly distributed by a record label (Melanie is signed with Atlantic Records). Melanie called the perfume creation process “magical,” but Nina Webb, VP of Marketing for Atlantic, said adding something like this to an artist’s repertoire is just as beneficial as it is exciting. “To be able to work with an artist like Melanie who has built such a loyal and passionate fan base is always the ultimate dream in artist development,” she told Billboard via email. “Melanie’s fans love and trust what she delivers, so we were excited to bring her vision to life.”

Cry Baby Perfume Milk will be available in the continental US and sold online at crybabybottle.com beginning December 19, but you can pre-order the fragrance now.

The 55-year-old fashion designer’s creations will be featured at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum in Miami.

Narcisco Rodriguez

The new exhibition titled, “Narcisco Rodriguez: An Exercise in Minimalism,” is the first solo exhibition for the American designer.

MAC to Premiere Its Selena World Line in Corpus Christi Next Month

It looks like Selena fans will be seeing (shades of) red next month…

The new MAC make-up line named for the late singer, known as La Reina de la Musica Tejana, will have its premiere at the American Bank Center in the singer’s home town of Corpus Christi, TX on September 30.

Selena

The MAC Selena World premiere, presented in partnership with Dillard’s department store, will be a day-long “product experience” where fans can buy the cosmetics before they are available in stores in October, as well as see the Quintanilla family perform with an as yet-unrevealed guest performer. DJs will part of the day’s entertainment, as well as make-up demonstrations.

Anticipating the big multi-generational crowds that can be expected to flock to the arena for the event, the cosmetics company has posted detailed instructions for attending – and lining up outside for world premiere, cautioning that “once the arena reaches capacity, doors will be closed to entry” to the free-admission event. View screens will be set up outside the arena, which has a maximum capacity of 10,000.

Doors open at 10 am, and the Quintanilla Family is set to perform at 8 p.m. The Selena

make-up will be available for purchase at the event until stock sells out.

Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla unveiled the full make-up collection in May via Persicope. It features lipsticks named for the beloved singer’s hits like “Dreaming of You” and “Amor Prohibido.”

Selena, who was only 23 when she died, was known for her bright red lips and a personal style that has influenced thousands of female fans.

NBC Hires Lima to Serve as Correspondent for the 2016 Rio Games

Adriana Lima is heading to the Olympics

NBC has hired the 35-year-old Brazilian model and her compatriot and fellow Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio to appear on the network’s late-night coverage of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

Adriana Lima & Alessandra Ambrosio

Lima and Ambrosio will appear primarily on Ryan Seacrest‘s after-hours show, which will be largely human-interest and entertainment based.

The bombshells will serve as NBC’s food and culture correspondents for the 2016 Rio Games.

“Adriana and Alessandra are the perfect ambassadors to guide viewers through the celebrations taking place outside of the competition, showcasing the off the field experience for Olympic fans,” said NBC Olympics executive producer Jim Bell in a press release.

Olympics coverage typically straddles the line between sports news and entertainment, with the expansion into the celebrity space coming into play to appeal to a broader audience beyond traditional sports fans, as well as fill 6,755 hours of coverage.

Bundchen Reportedly Appearing at the Rio Olympics Opening Ceremony

Gisele Bundchen is heading to the Olympics

The 35-year-old Brazilian supermodel has been reportedly awarded an extra special role in the 2016 Summer Olympics, which are being held in her home country.

Gisele Bündchen

Bundchen will host the opening ceremony at the city’s famous Maracana Stadium on August 5, according to Brazilian newspaper Extra.

Though details are scarce at the moment, it is rumored that the former Victoria’s Secret Angel – who last year confirmed her retirement from the catwalk – will swap the runway for walking through a “futuristic gateway,” representing the theme of the ceremony, to mark the start of the 2016 Rio Games, the first to ever be hosted in South America.

Arrieta Undresses for ESPN The Magazine’s “The Body Issue”

Jake Arrieta is baring it all

The 30-year-old part-Puerto Rican baseball star appears in only his birthday suit in ESPN The Magazine‘s eighth annual The Body Issue.

The Chicago Cubs ace dropped trou for photographer Marcus Eriksson for the special issue, in which the world’s top athletes take off all their clothes and pose for photographs that help celebrate the athletic form.

Arrieta, a Cy Young Award winner who has pitched two no-hitters, is considered one of the best pitchers in baseball, appears on the cover of this year’s Body Issue.

“The offseason is where I really put my body to the test. I try and push the boundary as far as I can while still getting a decent amount of recovery time,” says Arrieta of his workout regime. “The days where I really want to tax myself and replicate late-inning situations where your legs are heavy, I’ll do about an hour of cardio beforehand, usually on a StairMaster. So I can replicate situations late in games, late in the season, where that nervous energy is at a heightened point and you have to control your emotions knowing your body is not completely where you need it. That’s where the mental mindset comes in most.

Arrieta, who trains with Pilates in the offseason and in-season on a daily basis, believes his flexibility is his No. 1 asset.

Jake Arrieta in ESPN The Magazine's The Body Issue

Three years ago, the splits was something I told myself I was going to be able to do by the end of that offseason; it took me two years to actually do it,” says Arrieta. “Hamstring flexibility and hip mobility for me are the two most important factors on the field. Obviously we need to have a strong shoulder, strong scap, strong lats and a durable elbow to have longevity as a pitcher, but being durable and being mobile in the hips and flexible in the hamstrings take so much pressure and stress off of my arm. My flexibility is a huge asset.”

But Arrieta is also fit mentally, especially when he’s on the field.

“The way that you present yourself on the mound is so tremendously important. That was one of the biggest takeaways for me as a young kid from Nolan Ryan, from Roger Clemens, from Randy Johnson,” says Arrieta. “The look in their eyes that they had, whether they were a nice guy or not, they looked like they wanted to tear your head off when they took the mound. That’s the way I like to be. I expect to win, I expect to beat everybody I play. It’s kind of that quiet confidence that I have inside that I try to present to the opponent without getting too overboard. Because there are times when I seem composed but inside I’m losing my mind.”

Arrieta to Bare All in ESPN the Magazine’s annual The Body Issue

He may play for the Chicago Cubs, but that doesn’t mean Jake Arrieta isn’t afraid to show he’s also a Chicago Bare

ESPN has released the starting lineup for ESPN the Magazines annual The Body Issue, in which the world’s top athletes take off all their clothes and pose for photographs that help celebrate the athletic form.

Jake Arrieta

And the 30-year-old part-Puerto Rican baseball star, the MLB wins leader in 2015, has made the cut, along with UFC fighter Conor McGregor, U.S. women’s national soccer team member Christen Press, Super Bowl MVP Von Miller and Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade.

Arrieta, who is following up his 2015 Cy Young Award-winning season with an impressive 2016 campaign, is a well-known fitness fanatic. He’s lauded the use of Pilates as part of his remarkable comeback story. He currently has an 11-1 record with a sparkling 1.74 ERA for the Cubs in 14 starts this season.

The Body issue will also feature the first transgender athlete to appear in its pages, American duathlete Chris Mosier. Retired diver Greg Louganis — at age 56 — is the issue’s oldest.

“HIV taught me that I’m a lot stronger than I ever believed I was,” Louganis said. “I didn’t think I would see 30, and here I am at 56.”

ESPN hasn’t released the full listyet, but has said the issue will include ten men and nine women.

Arrieta is the latest Latino athlete to be featured in ESPN the Magazine’s The Body Issue, including Major League Soccer star Omar Gonzalez, Miami Marlins star Giancarlo Stanton and futbolista Carlos Bocanegra.
