Diego Schwartzman has punched the ticket to his first-ever ATP Masters 1000 final.

A night after defeating Rafael Nadal, the 28-year-old Argentine professional tennis player outlasted Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 in three hours and 15 minutes to reach the final at the Italian Open.

Schwartzman won one point more than his Canadian opponent, with six breaks on each side and a grueling battle from start to finish, both fighting for a place in the final against Novak Djokovic and the Top-10.

Schwartzman, currently ranked No. 25 in the world, had 25 winners and 27 unforced errors, taming his strokes nicely and had the upper hand in the shortest range up to four strokes. Shapovalov dominated with his first serve in the opener, although the problem was he served at only 42%.

He’ll now take on the World No. 1 Djokovic in his quest for a fourth career ATP Tour title.
