Maluma Earns First No. 1 as a Lead Act on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart with “Hawai”

Maluma is celebrating another chart-topper… And his first without an assist…

The 26-year-old Colombian singer has secured his second No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart dated September 12 — and his first as a lead act —  as “Hawai” jumps 2-1.

Maluma

Maluma last reigned on Hot Latin Songs with his featured role on Shakira’s “Chantaje,” an 11-week ruler starting with the chart dated November 10, 2016. “Hawai” becomes his first leader without an accompanied act.

“Hawai” was produced by Medellín duo The Rude Boyz, who also produced Papi Juancho, Maluma’s fifth studio album, which debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart dates September 5.

The Hot Latin Songs chart blends airplay, digital sales and streaming data.

“Hawai” advances to the top mainly on the strength of streaming activity. The song earned 9.4 million U.S. clicks (up 30 percent) in the week ending September 3, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data; four days after his performance of the song at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards on August 30.
