Jorge Navarro achieves a monumental feat at Monmouth…

The 41-year-old Panamanian trainer set a Monmouth Park record for victories at a meet last Sunday when he won three races on the card.

Navarro, who long ago locked up his fourth consecutive Monmouth training title, is now 56 for 148 (38 percent) at the Monmouth meet.

“I’m so proud of this accomplishment,” said Navarro. “I couldn’t be more thankful to the owners that have given me the opportunity to train their horses. My entire crew works very hard, and we will enjoy this moment for a long time to come.”

The old record for wins at a Monmouth meet was 55, set by John Tammaro III at a 60-day meet in 1974.

This year’s Monmouth meet, which concludes Sunday, is 57 days.

Tammaro’s record was tied in 1975 by J. Willard Thompson at a 75-day meet.
