The 36-year-old Cuban reggaeton singer, best known for “El Taxi,” his hit collaboration with Pitbull, has signed a worldwide deal with Planet Records.

Label head Roberto Ferrante described Garcia as “owning the hook.”

“Osmani Garcia an innovative artist who has a great feeling for music and what will be a hit,” added Ferrante in an announcement from the label.

“El Taxi” was released on Planet Records’ 2015 compilation Latin Hits 2015 – Club Edition; the song was a finalist in the 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards Latin Digital Songs of the Year category.

Ferrante signed Garcia to its exclusive deal after negotiations with Rock The Moon productions and the All Star Promotions agency, both based in Miami, where Garcia has lived since 2016.

Rock the Moon and All Star Promotions released several singles featuring Garcia, including “Baila Toma” with Justin Quiles and Fuego. Ferrante negotiated with Rock The Moon’s Tony Gonzalez and All Star’s Robin Carril for exclusive representation of the Cuban artist. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Planet Records, which has offices in both Havana and Miami, as well as in Italy and the Dominican Republic, has been a pioneer in working young Cuban reggaeton artists’ music internationally.

“The majors don’t have the capacity to understand this market,” Ferrante told Billboard in an interview last year, noting that he had several dozen Cuban artists signed to recording deals. “…We are part of the change for this new generation. We put our experience at the service of the artists.”
