Call him a “songwriting sensation”… After all, he’s the most recent recipient of the BMI President’s Award… And, now Pitbull has picked up another prize for penning his inescapable hits.
The 31-year-old Cuban American rapper has been named one of three pop songwriters of the year at the BMI Pop Music Awards, handed out each year by the U.S. performing rights organization Broadcast Music Inc.
Pitbull was singled out for writing five of the songs on the most-performed list: “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love,” “Give Me Everything,” “Hey Baby (Drop It to the Floor),” “I Like It” and “On the Floor.”
Meanwhile, Katy Perry’s “Firework” (co-written by Dean and Sandy Vee) was named the pop song of the year.
The 60th edition of the BMI Pop Awards took place this week at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills.
