Paz Vega to Star in the Salvadoran Civil War Drama “Fireflies at El Mozote”

Paz Vega has landed her next starring role…

The 46-year-old Spanish actress will star in the Salvadoran civil war drama Fireflies at El Mozote, which starts principal photography on location in El Salvador in November.

Paz VegaWritten and directed by Ernesto Melara, the film is set in 1980s El Salvador and recounts the story of a 10-year-old boy who survives the massacre of his village and his quest to bring justice to his dead family in the middle of a bloody civil war.

Elias Axume is producing for Premiere Entertainment, which handles worldwide sales, with Moctesuma Esparza.

“We are excited to add Paz to the Fireflies project. She’s an amazing actress and was our top choice for the character that she’ll be portraying,” said Premiere CEO Axume. “This is an ambitious project with high expectations that carries an important responsibility to depict an accurate and fair portrayal of the events during a period of turmoil in the country’s history.”

Additional casting will be announced in the coming months.

Vega’s previous credits include Sex and Lucia, Spanglish, 10 Items or Less, All Roads Lead to Rome, Acts of Vengeance and Rambo: Last Blood.

 

Paz Vega to Star in & Produce Comedy Series “Tacowood” for MGM International Television

MGM International Television is developing Tacowooda comedy series headlined and produced by the 44-year-old Spanish actress.

Based on an original idea by Spanish writer-producer-director Frank Ariza, Tacowoodis a modern-day comedy that follows Guada (Vega), a 40-year-old single mother who spends her days running her family’s taco truck business in the outskirts of Mexico City as she embarks on the journey of a lifetime with her mother and 10-year-old daughter to pursue her dream of becoming a Hollywood actress.

MGM International Television will produce and distribute the project.

“Good ideas married with good talent knows no borders today,” said Diego Piasek, SVP International Development at MGM International Television. “As a first-generation immigrant myself, I’m so proud that MGM is supporting the new voices of our generation.”

Launched last year, MGM International Television is ramping up in key markets like UK, Europe and Australia. One of the division’s main priorities is developing culturally rich programming with Latinx talent both in front of and behind the camera for English- and Spanish-speaking audiences around the world.

Vega also starred opposite Morgan Freemanin indie film 10 Items or Less and opposite Sylvester Stallonein Rambo: Last Blood.On the television side, she played Renata in Netflix’s The OA.

Paz Vega to Star in the Neo-Noir Thriller “American Night”

It’s a big Night for Paz Vega… 

The 43-year-old Spanish actress will star in American Night, a neo-noir thriller helmed by first-time film director Alessio Jim Della Valle.

Vega, who rose to acclaim in the United States after starring opposite Adam Sandler in Spanglish, will star opposite Jonathan Rhys MeyersEmile Hirsch and Jeremy Piven in the film.

Written by Della Valle, the plot follows Michael Rubino (Hirsch) who has just become the Don of the New York Mafia, but his greatest dream is to devote his life to painting and become a great artist. John Kaplan (Meyers), an art dealer, may feel like his life is in shambles, but he still has the best eye for spotting fakes in the world. Their paths, apparently distant, cross when Andy Warhol’s Pink Marilynis stolen, setting off a series of unexpected events that upend their lives.

Vega will play Sarah, who works as a museum curator and has earned her success without any shortcuts. Her only problem is being hopelessly in love with Kaplan

Rounding out the cast are Fortunato CerlinoAnnabelle BelmondoMara Lane, and Alba Amira Ramadaniwith cameo appearances featuring Michael MadsenMaria Grazia CucinottaMarco Leonardi, and international popstar Anastacia, who is writing and performing the song and main musical theme for the film.

Ochoa to Lead the Voice Cast of Disney-Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur”

Disney-Pixar has unveiled the all-new  cast of The Good Dinosaur, with the 13-year-old Latino actor voicing the character of Arlo, an Apatosaurus who is separated from his family when he falls into a raging river and is swept hundreds of miles away.

He comes across Spot (Jack Bright), a human cave-boy orphan with whom he forms a bond as he attempts to get home.

The new cast also includes Jeffrey Wright as Arlo’s dad, Poppa; Steve Zahn as a pterodactyl named Thunderclap; AJ Buckley as Nash, a T-rex; Anna Paquin as Ramsey the T-rex; Sam Elliott as a tough T-rex named Butch and Marcus Scribner as Arlo’s brother Buck.

The Good Dinosaur

The long-in-the-works animated film will hit theaters Thanksgiving week.

Originally set for release in summer 2014, the film has seen a number of obstacles since its original voice cast was unveiled at Disney’s D23 in August 2013. Raising Hope’s Lucas Neff was set as Arlo, with John Lithgow as Poppa, Frances McDormand as Momma and Bill Hader, Judy Greer and Neil Patrick Harris as Arlo’s siblings.

But just five weeks later, Disney announced that it had pushed Good Dinosaur back a year and a half as rookie feature director Pete Sohn stepped in for the departed Bob Peterson.

Ochoa, the younger brother of actor Ryan Ochoa, is best known for his roles in 10 Items or Less, Merry Christmas and Drake and Josh.

Vega to Star in Almodovar’s “Los Amantes Pasajeros”

Paz Vega is reuniting with noted Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar this summer…

The 36-year-old Spanish actress has joined the cast of Almodovar’s latest film Los Amantes Pasajeros.

Vega, who was born in Seville and began her acting career in Spain, starred in Almodovar’s Spanish-language film Talk to Her, which won the Oscar for best original screenplay and the a Golden Globe for best foreign-language film.

Los Amantes Pasajeros, which Almodovar also wrote, follows a group of travelers who are placed in life-threatening situation aboard a plane flying to Mexico City. The passengers are defenseless in the face of danger, which provokes colorful confessionals that are their way to put out of mind the possibility they might be about to die.

Vega, who made her U.S. debut in director James L. BrooksSpanglish, has starred in several Hollywood  films including The Spirit and the indie 10 Items or Less. She’ll next voice the character of Carmen in Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, which opens June 8.

Along with Vega, the movie stars Javier Camara (Talk to Her), Cecilia Roth (All About My Mother) and Lola Duenas (Volver). Spanish comedians Carlos Areces, Raul Arevalo and Jose Maria Yazpik are also in the cast.

Agustin Almodovar, the director’s brother, is producing the film. It is expected to shoot in Madrid this summer and will be released in spring 2013.

Vega joined a theater school at age 16 and made her acting debut on Spanish television. Her first big-screen role was in 1999’s Zapping.

The Goya Award-winning actress, who recently replaced Almodovar’s muse Penelope Cruz as the face of L’Oreal in Spain last year, is married to Orson Salazar, with whom she has three children.
