Jennifer Lopez Ends 2020 with Powerful & Emotional “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” Performance

Jennifer Lopez has ended the year as the belle of the (crystal) ball…

The 51-year-old Puerto Rican superstar closed out 2020 with a powerful and emotional performance on Thursday night, while taking the stage in New York’s Times Square.

Jennifer Lopez

Lopez, who headlined the 49th annual Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2021 on ABC. began by standing on a 20-foot tall column with a white coat covered in six large white feathered layers that cascaded all the way to the ground. JLo donned a glittery diamond head mask before taking it off, tossing off the massive coat, and showing off a glittering tight pants and a blazer with dramatic shoulders.

While performing her latest single “In the Morning,” J.Lo took a moment to reflect on the challenging year and remember the people we lost during the pandemic.

“2020 is almost over. We made it. We made it,” she said before getting teary-eyed. “If this year taught us anything, it taught us to be grateful for what we do have — to cherish every moment. We lost too many. Too many.”

Lopez also performed a montage of her hit songs, including “Dance Again” and “Waiting for Tonight,” and delivered a dazzling cover of Aerosmith‘s “Dream On.”

“Tonight we’re going to live, we’re going to love and we’re going to dance again,” she added, referring to her 2012 song “Dance Again.” “And we’re going to keep on dreaming. Twenty years ago, I sang this song, and we never needed it more than tonight.”

In addition to Lopez, the New Years Rockin’ Eve special also featured performances by Miley CyrusBilly PorterCyndi LauperNelly and others.

Pitbull Teams Up with Blake Shelton for New Country-Pop Single “Get Ready”

Pitbullhas gone country…

The 39-year-old Cuban American rap superstar has joined voices with Blake Shelton for “Get Ready,” which also marks their rendition of Ram Jam’s 1977 hit “Black Betty.”

Pitbull & Blake Shelton

For Pitbull, this collaboration makes a big statement.

“This to me is like when Run-DMC and Aerosmith did ‘Walk This Way,’” he said in a behind-the-scenes video. Shelton also expressed how honored he was to be making music with Pitbull.

“Get Ready” is a countrified pop-dance tune that perfectly fuses both artist’s musical styles and cultures with a music video that taps the best of both worlds.

It kicks off with Shelton and Pitbull sitting at a ranch in Nashville, Tennessee, inciting their own kind of rodeo complete with gorgeous cowgirls and a rickety and rowdy mechanical bull.

The clip then transports viewers to the party life at the Hard Rockin Hollywood, Florida, showing models dancing by the pool at night.

Trujillo & His Metallica Bandmates Notch Ninth No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs Chart

Robert Trujillo is feeling the Rise

The 52-year-old Mexican American musician and his Metallica bandmates have notched their ninth No. 1 on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart, as “Atlas, Rise!,” the third single from Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, rises 2-1 on the list dated February 18.

Robert Trujillo

The song is Metallica’s second No. 1 from the album, following “Hardwired” (October 8, 2016). The band also scored two chart-toppers apiece from two prior LPs: The group’s last studio set, 2008’s Death Magnetic (“The Day That Never Comes,” “Cyanide“), and 1996’s Load (“Until It Sleeps,” “Hero of the Day“).

With its ninth overall Mainstream Rock Songs No. 1, Metallica is in a tie for fifth place among all acts for the most leaders since the chart launched in 1981. The new No. 1 ties the quartet with Aerosmith, while Van Halen leads with 13 toppers.

Most No. 1s on Mainstream Rock Songs

13, Van Halen (between 1982 and 1998)
12, Three Days Grace (2004-15)
10, Tom Petty/The Heartbreakers (1981-94)
10, Shinedown (2005-16)
9, Aerosmith (1989-2001)
9, Metallica (1996-2017)
8, Linkin Park (2003-14)
8, Nickelback (2001-14)

Notably, Metallica’s span of No. 1s extends to a chart-record 20 years, eight months and 12 days, narrowly passing the span of Red Hot Chili Peppers (three days shy of 20 years, eight months, between 1995 and 2016).

All three singles from Hardwired have made the Mainstream Rock Songs chart. In between leaders “Hardwired” and “Atlas,” “Moth Into Flame” reached No. 5 in November; between Nov. 19 and Jan. 14, all three songs charted simultaneously. The set opened as Metallica’s sixth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (Dec. 10).

“Atlas” concurrently reaches a new peak (14-12) on the genre-encompassing Rock Airplay chart (5.2 million audience impressions, up 7 percent, according to Nielsen Music). The rank is Metallica’s best on the survey, which began in 2009; “Hardwired” previously led with a No. 13 peak.

Mars Wows Viewers as Host & Musical Guest on SNL

It’s been said that, “You only get one chance to make a first impression.” If that’s the case, Bruno Mars has proven he’s got comedic chops to match his singing abilities.

In his second appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend, the 26-year-old part-Puerto Rican Grammy-winning singer-songwriter did more than serve as the musical guest. He also hosted NBC’s long-running sketch comedy for the first time ever.

Bruno Mars

From Mars’ opening monologue to his final sketch, Mars’ appearance proved to be quite an entertaining affair and helped give NBC its highest ratings for an episode of Saturday Night Live since Lindsay Lohan hosted in March.

Mars, sans hat, broke into song partway through his opening monologue in a song that focused on his first-time-hosting nerves, singing “Can I put aside my fears? Can I be like Timberlake?” He closed the song with “Please be gentle,” then gave viewers his best pouty face.

Mars’ first sketch, which centered on a talk show called Haters with Sunny Taylor Tomkins, centered on a mother-daughter duo and featured Mars in his best To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar! impersonation. Playing a 17-year-old unemployed high school dropout named Crystal, Mars stole the sketch with dialogue.

“You’re just jealous ‘cause I’m young and I got a debit card and I know where to party,” declared Mars in character. “Ya’ll just mad ‘cause you ain’t got this. You ain’t got this. Quit hating alright, ‘cause Jesus made me perfect!”

Moments later, Mars appeared in the most memorable sketches of the night, as an intern at the Pandora Internet Radio Headquarters.

When Pandora suffers a power outage and the Green Day channel comes thisclose to going out, Mars’ geeky intern character Devon is called upon to impersonate Billie Joe Armstrong during one of the songs, which he does masterfully. He then impersonates Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Louis Armstrong and Michael Jackson.

And in the most poignant segment, a SNL Digital Short entitled Sad Mouse, Mars played a lonely guy who lands a job wearing a mouse suit in Times Square. His girlfriend had just dumped him and his dad had just left him for his other family, so he was worried what he’d do if people ignored him. “What if they don’t wave back?” he tearfully asked his new employer.

Mars wanders around in the mouse suit, desperately looking for love to no avail. Mars then pulls out the letter from his dad (Dear son, this is our other family) before finally connecting with a hula-skirted frog at the end.

In addition to his sketches, Mars took to the stage to perform two of this new singles. Mars first performed “Locked Out of Heaven” and later returned to sing his new ballad “Young Girls.” Both songs will appear on his upcoming album Unorthodox Jukebox.
