Pantelion’s Animated “Un Rescate De Huevitos,” Featuring Bruno Bichir, Earns Nearly Half a Million in Limited Release

Bruno Bichir is celebrating an eggs-cellent performance in the U.S.

Pantelion’s animated film Un Rescate De Huevitos, with a voice cast led by the 53-year-old Mexican actor, found opening weekend success stateside.

Bruno Bichir

No surprise in Mexico, where the franchise is its highest-grossing film series to date, the Spanish-language animation performed tremendously at its 320 locations, averaging over $1,300 per screen—a solid achievement for an animated kids flick.

With Sunday’s numbers in, the Alatriste brothers-directed film will have grossed $430K in its opening weekend. Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and Austin areas were Rescate’s best markets.

Un Rescate De Huevitos is a sequel to 2015’s Un Gallo Con Muchos Huevos and the fourth film in the Huevos franchise overall.

The latest tale follows a rooster named Toto (Bichir) who goes on a rescue mission to free his egg children Max and Uly after they were stolen to become part of a millionaires’ food event in Africa.

Other top Latin American talent lending their voices includes Maite Perroni, Miguel Rodarte, Mauricio Barrientos, and Angélica Vale.

“Animated films have enjoyed varying degrees of success particularly throughout the pandemic era as parents weigh the benefits of the escapism that taking the family out to see a movie can deliver while balancing that against health concerns and also the convenience of watching such films at home can provide, Comscore’s Senior Media Analyst, Paul Dergarabedian tells Deadline.

“Interestingly, the Pantelion title transcended possible parental concerns about the pandemic and benefitted from a great trailer, a fun concept and as the follow up to 2015’s hit Un Gallo Con Muchos Huevos had great brand equity that made it a ‘must see’ in theaters event for many family moviegoers.”

Salma Hayek to Receive Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Salma Hayek will have a permanent place in Hollywood

The 54-year-old Mexican Oscar-nominated actress and producer is among the 38 honorees invited to join the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Salma Hayek

Hayek, who moved to Hollywood in 1991, rose to acclaim in films like Desperado and From Dusk till Dawn. She earned an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo in Frida.

But Hayek isn’t the only Latin honoree this year…

Tessa Thompson was selected in the Motion Picture category.

The 37-year-old Afro-Panamanian American actress gained mainstream recognition for her starring role as Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero films Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame.

Her other credits include Sylvie’s Love, Men in Black: International, and Creed.

Ashanti has been selected in the Recording category.

The 40-year-old part-Dominican American Grammy-winning singer and actress was first discovered as a teenager and later signed to Murder Inc. Records in 2002.

That year, she was featured on Fat Joe‘s “What’s Luv?” and Ja Rule‘s “Always on Time,” both of which became two of the biggest hit songs of 2002; Ashanti became the first female artist to occupy the top two positions on the Billboard Hot 100 chart simultaneously when “Foolish” and “What’s Luv?” were at numbers one and two, respectively.

Other Latin artists selected include Los Huracanes Del Norte and Angelica Vale.

These honorees were chosen from among hundreds of nominees at a meeting of the Walk of Fame selection committee and ratified by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors this week. Radio personality Ellen K, chair of the selection committee (and a past Walk of Fame honoree), announced the new honorees on the Walk of Fame’s website.

The selection panel, made up of fellow Walk of Famers, handpicks a group of honorees each year that represent various genres of the entertainment world. “The panel did an amazing job choosing these very talented people,” said Ellen K. “We can’t wait to see each honoree’s reaction as they realize that they are becoming a part of Hollywood’s history with the unveiling of their star on the world’s most famous walkway.”

Dates have not been scheduled for these star ceremonies. Recipients have two years to schedule star ceremonies from the date of selection before their selection expires. Upcoming star ceremonies are usually announced 10 days prior to dedication on the Walk of Fame website.

Here’s the full list of Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2022 honorees (using their full names as shown on their list):

Recording: Black Eyed Peas, George E. Clinton Jr., Ashanti Douglas, DJ Khaled, Avril Lavigne, Los Huracanes Del Norte, Martha Reeves and Ermias Asghedom (Nipsey Hussle, posthumous).

Motion pictures: Francis Ford Coppola, Macaulay Culkin, Willem Dafoe, Salma Hayek, James Hong, Helen Hunt, Michael B. Jordan, Regina King, Ray Liotta, Ewan McGregor, Adam McKay, Jason Momoa, Tessa Thompson and Carrie Fisher (posthumous)

Angélica Vale to Host Estrella Studios’ Dating Series “La Máscara Del Amor”

Angélica Vale is masking up…

The 45-year-old Mexican actress/singer, star of the Mexican adaptation of Ugly Betty, will host the Spanish-language series La Máscara Del Amor.

Angélica Vale,

The original series, which is currently in production at Estrella Studios in Burbank, CA, has been handed a 44-episode order.

It is centered on a single man or woman being wooed through games and challenges by five masked suitors. The contestants move through the challenges with Vale serving as both host and confidante. At the end, it is ultimately up to the main contestant to decide between love or the cash prize at the end of each episode.

It is scheduled to air on May 27 on the Spanish-language broadcaster. It is produced by Estrella Media and Alton River Media, the company which makes MasterChef in the Dominican Republic.

“I’m excited to join the EstrellaTV team in hosting this unique and fun dating show La Máscara Del Amor,” said Vale. “Many of my single friends say how hard it is to meet someone. This series is a new twist on how people make personal love connections beyond typical first date pleasantries. On this show, our contestants will have the opportunity to participate in games and situations that allow them to get to know someone before seeing who is behind the mask. I’m excited to host this unique show and hopefully help these singles make a real love connection.”

“Angélica is a natural fit for this unique role, as it’s a hybrid of hosting and being the fairy godmother to an entertaining group of singles looking for love,” said Ivan Stoilkovich, EVP, TV Programming, Estrella Media. “Our audience looks to us to be entertained, and we love this series because it delivers a unique and fun alternative to the challenge of meeting your true love. We think the audience will love it, and judging from the contestants, we are already rooting for love to happen on this show.”

Kate del Castillo Among Artists Participating In “Cuídate y Cuéntate” Virtual Concert

Kate del Castillo wants you to be counted…

The 47-year-old Mexican actress and telenovela star is joining fellow Latin stars and personalities for the upcoming Cuídate y Cuéntate virtual concert.

Kate del Castillo

The online event is set to raise awareness on how Latinos count, contribute and come together for civic actions during a global pandemic, while completing the Census 2020.

Produced by UNO Productions and the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), the largest immigrant rights organization in California, the two-hour live stream event hosted by Nour Milla and Rafael Sigler will shed light on Latino civic power and their participation in the census.

Confirmed artists include Lupillo RiveraOzomatliNinel CondeDiego VerdaguerAna VictoriaAngélica MaríaAngélica ValeArthur Hanlon, and Horóscopos de Durango, to name a few.

In addition screen and radio stars like del Castillo, Edward James OlmosEl Piolin, and many more will participate.

Angélica Salas, CHIRLA’s executive director, and Diana Colín, its political director, are expected to take part in the conversation on how to ensure civic power in the COVID-19 era.

“The COVID-19 crisis has demonstrated two major realities: how much immigrants and Latinos contribute to our society, especially in challenging times, and how important participating in Census 2020 is so we can challenge all the inequality that still exists,” Salas said in a statement. “The beauty that these artists make as they come together for the Cuídate y Cuéntate virtual concert is a sign of hope that as we all complete Census 2020, the nation flourishes.”

Cuídate y Cuéntate will take place at 7:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, May 23 via a nationwide broadcast on LATV Network with a simulcast on YouTubeFacebook, and IGTV. The show will also air on Meruelo Media‘s KWHY 22.

Angélica María Receives Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

She’s a Latin American icon… And, now Angélica María is a star in Hollywood

On Wednesday, the 71-year-old American-born Mexican actress and Latin Grammy-winning singer-songwriter unveiled her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Angélica María Hollywood Walk of Fame

Angélica María, known as “La novia de México,” arrived in a vintage white convertible to a cheerful crowd ready to celebrate a long overdue recognition to one of Latin America’s most talented and loved artists.

To kick off the ceremony, actor and singer Diego Boneta dedicated a few words to the woman he calls his mentor and inspiration.

“Angélica María, as much as I’d love to say that I am the only actor you have inspired, that’s not the case. You have inspired all of us, the new wave of Mexican and Latin actors who are here today working hard. You’ve been a great example of that. Thank you for motivating me.”

Following Boneta’s remarks, her daughter, Angélica Vale, also a well-known actress and television personality, went up to the podium with her two kids to read a tearful letter to her mother. Vale also had three messages sent from Latin superstars Emilio and Gloria Estefan and Ricky Martin congratulating Angélica María on her special day.

“I’m there in heart with you today on this glorious day honoring an incredible woman. Thank you for all your talent and art that we have enjoyed for so many years and for being my theater godmother when I began my career in Mexico,” read Martin’s message.

“I’m so thrilled and grateful,” said a tearful Angélica María. “This star means so much to me. I never thought I would have a star, but this is a dream come true. This star is dedicated to my mother, to my family, to Latin America, to the press who have always supported me and to my Mexico. Viva México!

Born in New Orleans, Angélica María moved to Mexico at the young age of 4 where she began her acting career and, at 8 years old won her first Mexican Film Academy Award for the film Mi esposa y la otra. But that was just the first of many awards and achievements to come. She’s starred in many other films, musicals, telenovelas and theatrical productions.

She has recorded 63 albums and pioneered the genre balada-ranchera (ranchera ballad).

For her work on stage, screen, television and as a singer, Angélica María has been inducted into the Paseo de las Luminarias at Mexico City’s Plaza de las Estrellas.

Lopez Among the Actresses in the Running to Portray Jenni Rivera

It looks like it’s a three-way race to find the actress to portray the late Jenni Rivera in a film about her life, with Jennifer Lopez in the hunt.

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican actress is reportedly being considered to play la Diva de la Banda, as well as Angélica Vale and Alicia Machado.

Jennifer Lopez

Rosie Rivera, sister of the banda/ranchera singer who died in an plane crash in Mexico last December, told Univision that plans to shoot the film about the I Love Jenni star are going forward as part of the family’s wish to make all her dreams come true.

Even though Rivera’s family hasn’t confirmed who’ll play her on screen, the press these days has tossed around a number of names, including Vale. The 37-year-old Mexican actress is best known for her starring role in the telenovela La Fea Mas Bella.

Also mentioned repeatedly is Machado, the singer and actress who was the fourth Venezuelan woman in history to win Miss Universe.

Both she and Vale have publicly expressed their admiration for Rivera, but have also said that neither has been formally offered a role in the film.

It’s also been speculated that Lopez’s company, Nuyorican Productions, could produce the film, although no news has been forthcoming about whether J.Lo intends to portray Rivera.

Lopez previously starred in the 1997 biopic about another Latina legend, the late Selena Quintanilla, who was murdered by the former president of her fan club.

For his part, film director Francisco Joel Mendoza also told Univision that he already has the permits to begin production on the film, saying shooting could begin in April.
