From Universal Television and Ed Helms’ Pacific Electric Picture Company, the project was written by former Key and Peele writer-producer Charlie Sanders.

Set in the Los Angeles office of a federal agency, We The People centers on case officer Malory Ruiz (Johnson), who alongside a diverse group of co-workers, helps people gain their citizenship, while just trying to make it to five o’clock.

The film is toplined by the 33-year-old half-Mexican American actress/comedian, Brett Dalton, D.B. Sweeney and Neil Flynn and features former WWE champ Shawn Michaels.

Andrea Nasfell wrote the screenplay and Vertical Church founder Dallas Jenkins (What If…) helmed it. The outfit’s first feature-length effort is a long way the studio’s usual action fare featuring its star wrestlers: It centers on a former child star-turned-washed-up and troubled actor (Dalton), who after receiving a community service sentence pretends to be a Christian so he can play Jesus in a mega-church Easter production in order to fulfill his hours. Along the way, he reconnects with his past and builds upon his faith to discover his most important role is far away from the shining lights of Hollywood.

“It is a privilege to be working with the Harvest Bible Chapel and Vertical Church Films, as they share our understanding of the importance of a strong foundation for storytelling,” said WWE Studios president Michael Luisi. “The Resurrection of Gavin Stone is a heartwarming tale of faith and redemption that will allow us to continue growing our audience as we expand into new genres.”

Anjelah N. Johnson is about (a boy) to start work on her next project…

The pilot – written by Jason Katims and directed by Revolution’s Jon Favreau – centers on  Will (portrayed by David Walton), a bachelor man-child going through a revolving door of women, and the young boy who moves in next door with his quirky single mom, Fiona (portrayed by Minnie Driver).

Johnson has been cast as Laurie, the well-meaning but often overbearing wife of Will’s best friend and a mother of three frustrated by Will’s childishness.

She, who previously co-starred in the 2011 NBC comedy pilot My Life is an Experiment, gained acclaim for portraying one of the most notable characters from Fox’s sketch comedy series MADtv, rude fast food employee Bon Qui Qui. Johnson’s other credits include a guest-starring role on Ugly Betty and appearances in the films Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Our Family Wedding.

Bon Qui Qui, the character made famous by the 29-year-old part-Mexican American comedienne/actress, has released her first music video. The video was posted to YouTube last week and has amassed about 1,000 views so far. But the video still has the potential to go viral, as Johnson’s character has garnered a cult like following online thanks to a 2007 skit called “Bon Qui Qui at King Burger.” The video has garnered 54 million hits on YouTube, featuring the actress repeatedly telling people she would “cut” them, practicing subpar customer service and rapping orders to the kitchen.

In 2008, Johnson—a former NFL cheerleader—was nominated for an ALMA award for her role on the sketch comedy show. Mad TV was canceled by Fox that same year.
