FX Renews MJ Rodriguez’s Drama Series “Pose” for Second Season

MJ Rodriguez will still continue to strike a pose

Days before the penultimate episode of Pose is set to air on FX, the network has renewed the Ryan Murphy-produced series, starring the 27-year-old Latina actress and singer, for a second season.

MJ Rodriguez

“Ryan Murphy has once again revolutionized television with Pose, an incredibly engaging story of creativity, courage, compassion, love and family at a pivotal time in our culture,” says FX CEO John Landgraf of the June 3-debuting show about the NYC trans community in the ’80s.

In 2017, Rodriguez was cast in the leading role of Blanca Rodriguez-Evangelista on Pose following a six month casting search. The show made history for casting five leading transgender actresses in regular roles, the largest cast of series regular transgender actors in a scripted series as of 2018.

Rodriguez’s Blanca is a young woman who forms her own “house”—the House of Evangelista—after receiving a positive diagnosis for HIV, and becomes a surrogate mother to several abandoned queer youth of color. Described as a breakout, starring role, her performance has been praised by critics.

The series also stars Domique Jackson, Angelica Ross, Billy Porter, Evan Peters, Indya Moore and Angel Bismark Curiel.

Now heading to Netflix in a $300 million deal announced in February, Murphy himself has called Pose “the highlight of my career.”

“As television critics have universally acknowledged, there is simply nothing like Pose on TV, so effortlessly excelling on every creative level and earning a place in television history for its infectiously inclusive spirit,” the FX boss added.  “We are honored to partner with our producers Ryan, Brad Falchuk, Steven Canals, Nina Jacobson,Brad Simpson, Steven Canals, Alexis MartinWoodall and Sherry Marsh, and the incredible cast and crew to continue this groundbreaking journey that is Pose.”

Pose‘s second set of moves, so to speak, will hit the small screen in 2019, according to FX.

Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions produce the first eight-episode season and will be back for Season 2.

Jenner Upped to Series Regular on Fox’s “Glee”

Blake Jenner is officially a full-time student…

The 20-year-old half-Cuban American actor has been promoted to series regular on Fox’s musical dramedy Glee, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Blake Jenner

Jenner, the winner of the second season of Oxygen’s reality competition series The Glee Project, has been portraying Ryder Lynn on the Glee since last season.

He’s considered New Direction’s second coming of the series’ original All-American character Finn Hudson (portrayed by Cory Monteith).

Fox and studio 20th Century Fox Television renewed the Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk musical for its fifth and sixth seasons in April and the promotion comes as little surprise as Jenner has been considered one of the future stars of the series

Glee returns for its fifth season on Thursday, September 19 at 9:00 pm on Fox.

Jenner’s “Glee” Renewed for Two More Seasons

Blake Jenner has plenty of reason to be gleeful

The 20-year-old half-Cuban American actor and The Glee Project winner may not have to look for a new gig for awhile.

Blake Jenner

Fox has picked up its hit musical dramedy Glee, which features Jenner as Ryder Lynn, for two more seasons.

The negotiations for the series’ two-year renewal, for seasons five and six, took longer than normal because the network begins footing the bill after season four.

Glee debuted as the first and only successful musical comedy series on television, and more than four years later, it continues to defy genres, break new ground and have a significant impact on popular culture,” said Fox chairman Kevin Reilly.

Glee, which was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, has an off-network syndication deal with Oxygen, which makes a longer run attractive.

Despite a drop in its ratings, Glee still manages to perform respectably, especially when DVR viewing is factored in.

The dramedy is averaging 8.7 million total viewers this season. Glee, which marked its 500th performance recently, has spawned more than 53 million tracks digitally downloaded and more than 13 million albums sold worldwide.

No word yet on whether Jenner’s character will continue to appear on the show in upcoming seasons. Other Latino stars of the should who could be back for seasons five and six include Lea Michele, Naya Rivera and Sam Larsen.

Sanchez to Appear on Fox’s “Glee” Next Season…

She may have lost the American Idol title to Phillip Phillips… But that hasn’t stopped Jessica Sanchez from having the most gleeful year of her life.

Following her emotionally charged  performances of “The Star-Spangled Banner” on Capitol Hill and at Game One of the NBA Finals, the 16-year-old half-Mexican singer is reportedly thisclose to signing on for a multi-episode arc on Fox’s hit musical dramedy Glee.

Jessica Sanchez

Details on Sanchez’s character are being kept under tight wraps, but according to TVLine the pint-sized singer would join the Ryan Murphy-Brad Falchuk series midway through its upcoming fourth season. And, she’d join high-profile additions Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson, who have both signed on for multiple episodes.

Glee will move from its longtime home on Tuesdays to Thursday nights starting in September when it will be paired with Fox’s reality juggernaut Idol.

Sanchez—who successfully tackled music by divas Whitney Houston, Beyonce and Jennifer Holliday to land in the American Idol finale— will most likely join the series after the completion of Idol‘s summer concert tour.

Estefan to Appear in Glee’s Season Finale

Wepa! Gloria Estefan will be making an appearance at Breadsticks in Lima, Ohio…

The 54-year-old Cuban American singer will be guest starring in the season finale of Glee.

Gloria Estefan

Estefan—whose casting as Santana’s mother was announced last year—had been expected to guest star in a January episode.

The Fox musical dramedy’s co-creator/executive producer Brad Falchuk tweeted a photo of Estefan from the set in what appears to be a family dinner at Lima hotspot, Breadsticks, featuring Naya Rivera‘s Santana with her girlfriend, Brittany.

During last fall’s “I Kissed a Girl” episode, Santana told her classmates that she came out to her parents and that they were “OK with” her sexual orientation. But her grandmother didn’t share the same feeling and disowned the Cheerio who was pushed out of the closet.

Glee airs Tuesdays at 8:00 pm ET on Fox.

Diaz: A One Hit Wonder?

She may be one of Hollywood’s most bankable leading ladies… But Cameron Diaz could soon find herself labeled a “one hit wonder.”

The 39-year-old part Cuban American actress is attached to star in One Hit Wonders alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Beyonce and Andy Samberg.

Cameron Diaz

The musical comedy, a collaboration between Sony Pictures and Glee creator Ryan Murphy, will feature Diaz, Paltrow and Witherspoon as singers who each scored a top hit song in the 1990s before watching their careers go down the drain. In their quest to return to pop chart prominence, the ladies decide to join forces to form a super group.

In a seven-figure preemptive deal, Murphy is attached to direct, as well as write the script with his Glee cohorts Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. Murphy will produce with Paltrow.

The project reportedly came out of a dinner Murphy had with Paltrow, Diaz and Witherspoon. They discussed doing a fun project together and toyed around with several ideas until they settled on One Hit Wonders.

While nothing is concrete yet, Sony Pictures and Murphy are working on overdrive to hammer out the deals with all attached to secure project.
