Bella Thorne to Star in the Fantastical Indie Drama “The Tower”

Bella Thorne is towering ahead…

The 25-year-old half-Cuban American actress/singer will star opposite Jack Kilmer in The Tower, one of 102 projects to have been granted a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement following the launch of the actors strike.

The film currently in production is billed as a dark tale about a mysterious mermaid trapped and forgotten for years in the water tower of a small Southern town.

Sigal described it as his “attempt to interpret the isolation and wanderlust I felt growing up in a small Southern town.”

The Tower is among the projects that began shooting shortly before the SAG-AFTRA strike launched and went on pause in the wake of the walkout until the securement of a SAG waiver.

Of his project’s ability to move forward amidst the dual SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, Sigal said, “It breaks my heart that there are so many actors, writers and crews unable to work at the moment, and I realize how fortunate we are to have the opportunity to finish this film. I am incredibly grateful to SAG for continuing to support independent film, and as soon as we wrap, the cast of The Tower and I will be out there on the picket lines beside our fellow actors and writers, fighting for what they deserve.”

Rising to fame with her starring role on Disney Channel’s Shake It Up, Thorne has since appeared in numerous films including BlendedAlvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, Netflix’s The Babysitter and its sequel, Amityville: The Awakening and Infamous.

Edward James Olmos Starring in Mario Van Peebles’ New Western “Outlaws”

The 75-year-old Mexican American Oscar-nominated actor is starring in Outlaws, a new Western that Mario Van Peebles wrote, directed and stars in for Quiver.

Outlaws follows Chief (Van Peebles), a renegade cowboy putting together a multicultural team of new and old friends in order to ride into dangerous unsettled territory to retrieve gold from an abandoned mine. Hot on Chief’s tail is Angel (Mapother), a spurned lawman and Civil War veteran with a thirst for vengeance. So begins a cross-country journey, with Chief and his band of Outlaws crossing paths with a number of interesting historical characters along the way, including a true-to-life Stagecoach Mary played by Goldberg.

The film’s ensemble cast also includes Cam Gigandet, Allen Payne, Neal McDonough, Mandela Van Peebles, D.C. Young Fly, Amber Reign Smith, Jake Manley, Joseph Culp, Brian Presley and Sean Bridgers.

Olmos earned an Oscar nomination in 1989 for his lead role in the drama Stand and Deliver and has also been recognized over the course of his career with three Emmy noms — winning in 1985 for his role as Martin Castillo on Miami Vice.

His other notable credits include films like Blade Runner and Selena, and the series Battlestar Galactica and Mayans M.C. 

Also coming up for the actor is the motorcycle racing film One Fast Move for Gulfstream Pictures and Luber Roklin Entertainment.

Lisa Vidal to Star in the Crime-Action Heist Feature “Shelter”

The 56-year-old Puerto Rican actress will star in the crime-action heist feature Shelter.

Vidal joins a cast that includes Cam Gigandet, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Carlos Miranda and Hollywood newcomer Sasha Merci.

In pre-production, filming is scheduled to start shortly in Los Angeles on the movie about the head of a secret organization who assembles a crew to steal back artwork from a neo-Nazi billionaire oligarch who plundered it during World War II.

Produced by Jolene Rodriguez of Broken English productions and financed by Ruben IslasGrandave Capital, the film is an original screenplay by Michael Corcoran, directed by Anthony Nardolillo.

“I’m thrilled to work with such a talented group. I’ve followed many of their careers and to make a movie with them is such a privilege. Shelter is a great example of taking any script and making it inclusive. It takes effort but it’s possible and it matters,” said Rodriguez.

Vidal has starred on ABC’s The Baker and The BeautyBET TV series Being Mary Jane and Grey’s Anatomy.

Ortiz will star in her fifth season of Shondaland’s ABC series Station 19 after a successful run in Fox’s Rosewood and a consequent role in Shooter.

Miranda will join the cast of ABC’s Station 19 as a series regular in the coming season and has had recurring roles in Amazon Original series Bosch and Comedy Central’s Ana as well as being a series regular in Starz series Vida.

Merci recently starred in the HBO feature film De Lo Mio.

Dean Scott Vazquez to Star in Gigi Gaston’s Indie Drama “Gypsy Moon”

The young Latino actor has been cast in Gypsy Moon, an indie drama from writer and director Gigi Gaston that recently wrapped production in Los Angeles.

Vazquez will star opposite Lena Headey, Sam Worthington and Barbara Hershey in the film.

Headey stars as the title character, a burlesque dancer who, on the eve of her last dance, must go on the run to save a neighbor boy (Vazquez) whose life is threatened by her ex-longtime lover (Worthington). She finds her real second chance at life in the love she feels for the child.

La La Anthony, Cam Gigandet, Martin Sensmeier and Emma Holzer round out the cast.

The film hails from Aquarius Content in association with Pop Films, Screen Media, Foresight Entertainment and 120db.

Vazquez’s previous credits include the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical In The Heights, Mr. Robot and Jack Ryan.

Gallegos to Star in Antoine Fuqua’s Drama Series “Ice” for AT&T’s Audience Network

Rey Gallegos is getting Iced

The Latino actor has joined the cast of Ice, Antoine Fuqua’s drama series for AT&T’s Audience Network.

The 10-episode series, hailing from Fuqua’s Fuqua Films and Entertainment One, was named after the slang word for diamonds. Written/executive produced by Robert Munic, it follows the Green family as they plunge into the underbelly of the L.A. diamond trade.

Gallegos will portray Carlos Vega, a Los Angeles police officer looking to take short cuts whenever possible, while maintaining his position within the LAPD.

He joins previously announced Judith Shekoni. Raymond J. Barry, Cam Gigandet, Jeremy Sisto, Ray Winstone and Donald Sutherland.

Gallegos’ previous credits include Impastor, Gang Related, Sons of Anarchy and Graceland.

Rodriguez Cast in CBS’ Drama Pilot “Reckless”

Adam Rodriguez is headed back to the force for his next project.

The 37-year-old Puerto Rican/Cuban-American actor, who will be appearing in a recurring role on Fox’s The Goodwin Games this May, has landed a co-starring role on CBS’ drama pilot Reckless.

The project, set in Charleston, South Carolina, centers on Jamie (portrayed by Anna Wood), a beautiful Yankee litigator, and Roy (Cam Gigandet), a city attorney from the South, who struggle to hide their intense attraction while clashing over a police sex scandal.

Rodriguez will portray Preston, a well-respected police detective who works in the Charleston Police Department alongside Trey (Shawn Hatosy).

Should the project get a series order, it would mark the Magic Mike star’s return to CBS following the cancellation of CSI: Miami, where he portrayed Detective Eric Delko.
