Dolores Huerta to Be Honored at This Year’s Girl Up #GirlHero Awards

Dolores Huerta is living legend in the Latino community… And, now she’s being heralded as a girl hero.

The 90-year-old Mexican American labor leader and civil rights activist, who co-founded the National Farmworkers Association (which later became the United Farm Workers) with Cesar Chavez, will be one of the honorees at this year’s Girl Up #GirlHero Awards.

The virtual event will take place online on Thursday, October 29 at 12:00 pm ET with Girl Up Champion Nigel Barker as co-host.

In addition, Girl Up executive director Melissa Kilby will highlight Girl Up’s Gen Z leaders fighting for change while special guests will make appearances on the event’s virtual red carpet.

“Today we’re celebrating gender equality giants, at a time when there’s a lot at stake for girls and women,” said Kilby. “We’re honored to stand with them in building a brighter, more equal movement by relentlessly showing that girls are and have always been leading us toward a better future.”

The awards will honor lifelong civil rights advocate Huerta, who models how standing for a cause can change the world. Rhimes will be honored for her work as a storyteller that explores the most relevant topics of our time, reflecting the world as we know it onscreen with dynamic characters; and Burke who founded #metoo, a movement that kicked off a worldwide wave of women taking a stand against violence and discrimination.

The honorees will participate in conversations with Girl Up’s own girl changemakers Ina Bhoopalam, Alliyah Logan, and Rym Badran as they share their work for gender equality.

The one-on-one conversations will highlight advocates, allies, and activists shaking up accepted norms and changing the trajectory of global gender equality over the course of their lifetime.

Honorees of last year’s #GirlHero Awards in Los Angeles were Cara Delevingne, Jameela Jamil and Kate Hudson.

Stephanie McMahon, Pamella Roland, LaVerne Council, Amanda Fata, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Michelle King, Alexandra Trustman, Shaun Robinson, Tracy Shaffer and Chantelle Siegel will serve as this year’s co-chairs of the event.

New Trailer Released for Leto’s “Suicide Squad”

The Joke(r)’s on Jared Leto

The 44-year-old part-Spanish American actor/singer and his Suicide Squad co-stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Cara Delevingne took to the stage at the MTV Movie Awards to unveil the new trailer for the film.

Suicide Squad's Jared Leto as The Joker

Suicide Squad is the second (official) installment of the DC Extend Universe , following Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and, retroactively, Man of Steel.

The film sees a shady government spymaster assembling a team composed of the DC Universe’s worst criminals to take down an even greater evil. To keep them in line, the team members are implanted with “microbombs” in their heads set to go off if they try to flee or if they fail – the “succeed or die” requirement gives the squad its name.

The villainous good guys are led by Smith who plays DC villain Deadshot, Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, and Cara Delevingne as The Enchantress.

The ensemble cast is rounded out by Leto as The Joker, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, the military officer overseeing the team, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, with Ike Barinholtz, and Scott Eastwood.

The film is written and directed by David Ayer and hits theaters August 5.

Bündchen Tops Forbes’ List of the Highest Paid Models of 2015

Gisele Bündchen is beautiful woman on top…

The 35-year-old Brazilian supermodel and entrepreneur tops Forbes‘ annual list of the highest paid models of 2015.

Gisele Bündchen

With an income of $44 million dollars, Bündchen’s salary is a league ahead of Cara Delevingne‘s income, which at $9 million has them tied for the second spot.

Bündchen’s earnings are slightly smaller than the $47 million she earned last year. She’s been atop the rankings since 2002.

The versatile Brazilian beauty continues to clock lucrative beauty and fragrance contracts with Chanel and Carolina Herrera, supplementing those money makers with prestigious high fashion campaigns for Emilio Pucci and Balenciaga. Gisele’s Under Armour advertisement, which pictured her attacking a punch bag while social media commentary blared in the background, was perhaps the most impactful this year. Gisele has turned her name into a brand: She gets a cut of sales from the jelly sandals she designs for Brazilian shoemaker Grendene, while her line of Hope lingerie — Gisele Bündchen Intimates — also plumps up her paycheck.

But Bündchen isn’t the only Latina to make this year’s list…

Adriana Lima comes in at No. 3 on this year’s list, with a reported earnings of $9 million.

Joan Smalls comes in at No. 6, with a reported earnings report of $5.5 million.

Alessandra Ambrosio comes in at No. 8, with a reported earnings report of $5 million.

Here’s a preview of the most successful pretty people:

  1. Gisele Bundchen ($44 million)
  2. Cara Delevingne ($9 million)
  3. Adriana Lima ($9 million)
  4. Doutzen Kroes ($7.5 million)
  5. Natalia Vodianova ($7 million)
  6. Miranda Kerr ($5.5 million)
  7. Joan Smalls ($5.5 million)
  8. Lara Stone ($5 million)
  9. Alessandra Ambrosio ($5 million)
  10. Candice Swanepoel ($5 million)
  11. Karlie Kloss ($5 million)

Leto to Star as The Joker in DC Comics’ “Suicide Squad”

The joker’s on Jared Leto

The 42-year-old part-Spanish actor has been cast as The Joker in David Ayer’s DC Comics’ villains team-up Suicide Squad.

Jared Leto

With a script by Justin Marks, the film will see an assembly of baddies and anti-heroes brought together by a secretive government group and offered a shot at redemption if they’ll go on a mission. There’s just one slight drawback: they might not survive it.

In addition to Leto, the film will also star Will Smith as Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Meanwhile, Jai Courtney will play Boomerang and Cara Delevingne will play Enchantress.

Ayer will begin shooting the film this coming April in Toronto, aiming for an August 5, 2016 release date.

Warner Bros. will release Suicide Squad in 3D and 2D.

Smalls Graces the Cover of Vogue’s September Issue

There’s not denying Joan Smalls is one of the modeling world’s “It Girls.” And, now she’s got the ultimate cover to prove it.

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican model, currently ranked the No. 1 model in the world according to models.com, graces the cover of Vogue’s September issue.

Joan Smalls Vogue September 2014 Cover

In what’s being described as a return to models on the portadas of fashion magazines, Smalls, whose full name is Joan Smalls Rodriguez, appears alongside Cara Delevingne and Karlie Kloss on the cover, with a cover line that reads “The Instagirls.”

Smalls, Delevingne and Kloss show off their no-nonsense beauty, complete with clean faces and sporty, pulled-back hair and sparkly gowns.

Vogue’s September issue arrives at a massive 856 pages, down from last year’s 902-page Jennifer Lawrence whopper, but handily beats 2009’s recession-thinned, 584-page Charlize Theron cover, and even the 2007 Sienna Miller cover that at the time was heralded as the “biggest issue ever!” at 840 pages.

So is this a return to models on the covers of fashion magazines? Quite possibly. After all, Christy Turlington appeared on Vogue UK‘s July 2014 issue, Miranda Kerr graced Lucky‘s June/July 2014 cover, Kate Upton landed V Magazine‘s February 2014 cover and Smalls posed for Elle‘s January 2014 cover, to name a few. Delevingne even covers Vogue UK‘s September issue this year.
