Messi: The Top-Ranking Latino on Forbes’ Celebrity 100 List

Lionel Messi is a Latino at the top of the global earnings game…

The 28-year-old Argentine soccer star has earned the No. 13 spot on ForbesCelebrity 100, the list of the world’s highest-paid superstars of 2015.

Lionel Messi

Messi, the highest-ranking Latino on the list of the highest paid entertainers on the planet had earnings of $74 million during the reporting period.

In 2014, Spanish club Barcelona awarded Messi, a four-time FIFA player of the year, with a $9 million a year raise in his seventh contract since 2005, bringing his take home pay to $50 million a year through 2018. Messi holds records for most goals in Barca competitions, most goals in La Liga competitions, most goals scored in a calendar year and most hat tricks scored. That incredible talent is why sponsor Samsung cast him as superhero Iron Man in their ad to promote the Avengers film. It’s also why his main sponsor Adidas launched a Messi icon line of shoes and apparel, which has exceeded company sales expectations, including in the U.S.

He recently ranked as the top-ranking Latino on Forbes’ 2015 list of the World’s Highest-Paid Athletes, coming in at No. 4.

Meanwhile, Gisele Bündchen has earned the distinction of highest-ranking Latina on this year’s list.

The 34-year-old Brazilian supermodel, who has been the highest-paid model in the world since 2004, comes in at No. 46 with earnings of $44 million.

Bündchen, the world’s highest-paid model in 2014, continues to out-earn her younger counterparts. Despite rumors that she was retiring from the runway, Bündchen’s earnings have not suffered. She continues to land lucrative fragrance and beauty contracts with Carolina Herrera and Chanel, supplementing those deals with high fashion campaigns for Emilio Pucci and Balenciaga. Her Under Armour advertisement, which showed her attacking a punching bag while social media commentary blared in the background, was one of the most impactful this year. Bündchen has turned her name into a brand: she gets a cut of sales from the jelly sandals she designs for Brazilian shoemaker Grendene, while her line of Hope lingerie – Gisele Bündchen Intimates – also pumps up her paycheck.

Coming in at No. 52 is Bruno Mars, with earnings of $40 million.

The 29-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer-songwriter’s recent collaboration with Mark Ronson, “Uptown Funk,” spent 14 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. It was only one of many reasons Mars solidified his place on the Celebrity 100. After being the featured musician in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Class of 2014, Mars continued to make a name for himself by completing his Moonshine Jungle tour. He’s currently working on his next album, and if it is anything like his previous studio effort, Mars can expect the awards and dollars to keep rolling in.

In all, 10 Latino/a celebrities made this year’s list, including tennis star Rafael Nadal, soccer phenom Neymar and multi-hyphenate extraordinaire Jennifer Lopez.

Here’s the complete list of Latino superstars on Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list:

Lopez: The World’s Most Powerful Latina Celebrity

She may not be sitting at the top of the perch of ForbesCelebrity 100 list this year, but Jennifer Lopez is still the world’s most powerful Latina celebrity.

This year, the 43-year-old Puerto Rican actress/singer ranks No. 12 on the magazine’s official list of the world’s most powerful celebrities.

Jennifer Lopez

Lopez, who ranked No. 1 on last year’s list, earned $52 million in 2012. But after quitting her gig as a judge on American Idol, she lost the hefty $12 million salary that came with it.

Lopez, who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame earlier this month, is earning at nearly the same rate though, thanks to her lucrative world tour that grossed over $1 million per night and a starring role in the Latin talent competition Q’Viva. Lopez continues to give back through her foundation and is the first female spokesperson for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in its century-and-a-half history.

But Lopez isn’t the only Hispanic celebrity list…

Lionel Messi is next on the list, coming in at No. 39. The 26-year-old Argentinean soccer star won FIFA’s world player of the year award for a record fourth year in a row after scoring 91 goals in all competitions last year to break a 40-year-old world record held by Gerd Muller.

His team, Futbol Club Barcelona, rewarded him with a record contract extension through 2018 that will pay him more than $20 million annually. In addition, Adidas launched his icon signature line in 2013. It is only the second time they have done so for one of their brand ambassadors.

Other Hispanic celebrities include:

Rafael Nadal, Spanish tennis star, No. 51
Sofia Vergara, Colombian actress, No. 54
Charlie Sheen, part-Spanish American actor, No. 67
Gisele Bündchen, Brazilian supermodel, No. 81
George Lopez, Mexican American actor/comedian, No. 93
Louis C.K., Mexican American comedian/actor, No. 97

Jennifer Lopez: The World’s Most Powerful Celebrity

Move over Lady Gaga… There’s a new fame monster in Hollywood… And, her name is Jennifer Lopez.

The 42-year-old Puerto Rican singer/actress has been named the most powerful celebrity in the world by Forbes magazine.

Jennifer Lopez

Lopez, who unseated Lady Gaga to reach No. 1 with a bullet, is the lone Hispanic superstar in the Top 25 on the just-released Celebrity 100 list, which shines a spotlight on the world’s most powerful celebrities.

The list ranks stars based on their masses of money, as well as their eternal fame –“fame” referring to just how well a given celebrity manages to blanket everything from television and magazines to your Facebook and Twitter feeds in a 12-month period.

The Latina multi-hyphenate parlayed her role as a judge on American Idol into hit singles like “Dance Again,” increased album sales, an upcoming world tour, three new movies and a growing portfolio of endorsements.

But that’s not all…

In September, Lopez launched a clothing and lifestyle collection for Kohl’s. In May she added an 18th scent to her successful fragrance line, Glow. And Lopez continues to work with her ex, Marc Anthony, on the Latin talent competition show, Q’Viva: The Chosen.

Here’s a look at the other Latino celebrities who made the list:

No. 44: Cristiano Ronaldo
No. 47: Rafael Nadal
No. 50: Lionel Messi
No. 59: Cameron Diaz
No. 61: Gisele Bunchen
No. 63: Alex Rodriguez
No. 76: Sofia Vergara
