Sandoval Named CNN Newsource National Correspondent

Polo Sandoval is heading to our nation’s capital…

The Latino broadcast journalist has been hired by CNN Newsource as a national correspondent.

Polo Sandoval

Sandoval, who most recently served as the Hidalgo County bureau chief for the Rio Grande Valley’s ABC affiliate KRGV-TV, will be based in Washington, D.C.

During his time at KRGV, Sandoval covered the on-going breaking news at a fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas, as well as reported from both the Democratic and Republican national conventions in 2008 and 2012.

Sandoval’s experience with enterprise reporting from the Texas-Mexico border on topics ranging from immigration, homeland security, drug cartels and the resulting violence along the border, human trafficking, government benefits fraud, politics and human interest stories is expected to complement CNN Newsource and its offerings for its affiliates.

“Polo is a versatile and talented journalist, who gets to the crux of a story,” said Paul Crum, vice president of news operations, administration and affiliate services for CNN/U.S. “His range of enterprise reporting from the field will further enhance CNN Newsource.”

Sandoval has earned recognition from the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters and the Lone Star Emmy chapter. He’s a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE).

CNN Newsource, comprised of more than 800 affiliates including TV stations and local/regional cable news channels throughout North America, is the most widely distributed syndicated news service.
