Columbia Pictures Developing “Bad Teacher 2,” with Diaz Attached to Star

It looks like Cameron Diaz may be getting bad all over again…

Columbia Pictures is currently developing Bad Teacher 2, with the 40-year-old half-Cuban American actress attached to star in the film.

No official deal has yet been set with Diaz, who took little upfront money the first time around and made a fortune when the bawdy film became a surprise hit.

Bad Teacher 2 is set to be directed by Jake Kasdan and written by Justin Malen.

Sony Pictures production president Hanna Minghella said the studio “loves Justin’s take on the material – it hits all the notes that made the first film such a breakthrough hit and also takes the characters in a new direction that is fresh and fun.”

The original earned $216 million worldwide and hatched a half-hour series for CBS that will star Ari Graynor. The Sony Pictures Television and CBS Television Studios co-production received a 13-episode midseason order.

Diaz earned a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actress: Comedy for her performance in Bad Teacher. She portrayed an amoral, gold digging Chicago-area middle school teacher at the fictional John Adams Middle School who curses at her students, drinks heavily, smokes marijuana, and only shows movies while she sleeps through class.

Consuelos’ “Alpha House” Pilot Streaming Online

The fate of Mark Consuelospolitical-themed comedy pilot lies in your hands…

Amazon Studios has unveiled its slate of 14 pilots, including the 41-year-old half-Mexican American actor’s Alpha House project.

Mark Consuelos

The pilots have been made available for free viewing on Amazon Instant Video, LoveFilm UK and LoveFilm Germany. Viewers are invited to watch and review them on the site.

There will be “a lot of data points” in Amazon’s decision-making process as to which pilots will be picked up to series,” said Amazon Studios director Roy Price. Amazon will count how many people watched each pilot, how many watched each pilot from start to finish and how many shared it on social media. Additionally, the company will evaluate feedback from an online panel recruited on Amazon preview as well as traditional offline focus groups.

Here’s a look at the description for Amazon’s Consuelos-starrer, as well as Zombieland, starring Maiara Walsh.

Alpha House

Alpha House was written by Academy Award nominee and Pulitzer Prize-winner Garry Trudeau. It follows four senators, including Consuelos, who live together in a rented house in Washington D.C.

Zombieland:

Based on the hit Columbia Pictures film of the same name, Zombieland finds four survivors outwitting zombies and searching for a place to call home. The pilot comes from the feature film’s original creative team, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Along with Gomez and Sandler, the voice cast includes Andy Samberg, Kevin James, Fran Drescher and Cee-Lo Green.

Hotel Transylvania will open in theaters across the U.S. on September 28.
