The bout was first mentioned by MMA reporter Ariel Helwani on Spotify Greenroom and the date was first reported by Brazilian outlet Combate.

ESPN has Font ranked No. 5 in the world at bantamweight and Aldo at No. 6. The winner would be in pole position for a potential title opportunity, though the division is waiting for the return of champion Aljamain Sterling from neck surgery. Sterling withdrew from a title rematch with former champ Petr Yan at UFC 267 on October 30, and Yan will now fight Cory Sandhagen in an interim title bout.

Aldo (30-7) has won two straight after falling in a title fight to Yan at UFC 251 in July 2020. The Brazilian striker is coming off a unanimous decision win over Pedro Munhoz at UFC 265 last month. Aldo is one of the most decorated former champions in MMA history. He was the first UFC featherweight champion and took the title from WEC into the UFC, a span of six years. Aldo has the most title defenses in UFC featherweight history (7).

Font (19-4) has won four straight and five of his last six bouts. The Massachusetts native is coming off a unanimous decision win over former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt in May. Font, 34, sports a 9-3 UFC record.

Deiveson Figueiredo to Make First His UFC Flyweight Title Defense Against Alex Perez

Deiveson Figueiredo is facing a new opponent…

The 32-year-old Brazilian mixed martial artist and UFC fighter’s first flyweight title defense won’t come against Cody Garbrandt after all.

Deiveson Figueiredo

Figueiredo (19-1) will face Alex Perez at UFC 255 on November 21 after Garbrandt withdrew from the title fight because of an injury, according to ESPN.

The news was first reported by Combate.

Garbrandt tweeted that he tore his biceps on Monday. “Title shot in 2021,” he said in the tweet.

The fight will mark Figueiredo’s first title defense after he defeated Joseph Benavidez to win the vacant title in July. It was supposed to mark Garbrandt’s flyweight debut. It is unclear how long he will be out, sources said.

Perez (24-5) has won three fights in a row and 11 of his past 12. He most recently defeated Jussier Formiga via first-round TKO in June. Perez has a 6-1 UFC record.

Paulo Costa to Take On Defending Champion Israel Adesanya in UFC Middleweight Title Fight

Paulo Costa is getting his title chance…

Israel Adesanya will defend his middleweight title against the 29-year-old Brazilian mixed martial artiston September 19, according to ESPN.

Paulo Costa

This weekend, Costa tweeted: “The fight is on folks!” News of the fight was first reported by Combate.

The fight, which will take place at UFC 253, doesn’t have a location yet. It probably will take place in either Las Vegas or Abu Dhabi, but the promotion hasn’t finalized those plans just yet because of the coronavirus pandemic, sources said.

Originally, Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Justin Gaethje was targeted for September 19. Though no official determination has been made regarding that fight, sources say the current plan is to headline the card with Adesanya vs. Costa and then do Nurmagomedov vs. Gaethje for the lightweight title later in the fall.

Adesanya (19-0) successfully defended the middleweight title for the first time in March when he defeated Yoel Romero via unanimous decision. That fight was supposed to be against his bitter rival, Costa, however, Costa was forced out of the fight after suffering a torn left biceps.

Costa (13-0), most recently defeated Romero via unanimous decision in August 2019.

The duo have been entangled in a war of words since before Adesanya won the middleweight title in October.

The fight will mark just the second time in UFC history that two undefeated males fight for an undisputed title. The first time was back in 2008 when champion Rashad Evans defended the light heavyweight title against Lyoto Machida at UFC 98.
