The 31-year-old Costa Rican American film and television actor will co-star opposite Anna Kendrick in the true crime thriller The Dating Game, which Kendrick will also directing.
Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios is behind the film with Kendrick also producing.
Production is currently under way in Vancouver.
The script is from a Black List script by Ian MacAllister McDonald and is based on the stranger-than-fiction true story of Cheryl Bradshaw, who was a bachelorette on the hit 70s TV matchmaking show The Dating Gameand chose handsome and funny bachelor number one, Rodney Alcala. But behind Alcala’s charming façade was a deadly secret: he was a psychopathic serial killer.
Best known for his breakout role in It Follows, Zovatto is coming off a starring role in the Emmy-nominated HBO limited series Station 11opposite Himesh Patel and Mackenzie Davis.
He recently wrapped production on The Pope’s Exorcist opposite Russell Crowe.
The 31-year-old Argentinian-Costa Rican actor will star opposite Russell Crowe in Screen Gems’ supernatural thrillerThe Pope’s Exorcist.
Directed by Julius Avery, the film stars Crowe as Father Gabriele Amorth, the legendary Italian priest who performed over 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican—drawing on his international bestselling memoirs An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories.
Father Amorth, who died in 2016, left behind a trove of additional accounts of his exploits pulling the devil out of people all over the world.
Screen Gems acquired his life rights for the project, along with rights to his memoirs.
Details on Zovatto’s role have not been disclosed.
The Pope’s Exorcist has been gestating at Screen Gems for a number of years, with Ángel Gómez having previously been attached to direct as of 2020.
Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the current draft of the script, with revisions by Chuck MacLean, which is based on Michael Petroni-revised original drafts by Chester Hastings & R. Dean McCreary.
Zovatto can currently be seen on HBO Max’s Station Eleven and has also appeared on series like Penny Dreadful: City of Angelsand Here and Now.

HBO Max has released the trailer for its new series Station Eleven, starring the 30-year-old Costa Rican American actor.
A pandemic has ravaged the world in Patrick Somerville’s new series, an adaptation of the 2014 book of the same name by Emily St. John Mandel.
Station Eleven is a post-apocalyptic saga spanning multiple timelines, this limited drama series tells the stories of survivors of a devastating flu as they attempt to rebuild and reimagine the world anew while holding on to the best of what’s been lost.
In addition to Zovatto, the series stars Mackenzie Davis, Himesh Patel, David Wilmot, Matilda Lawler, Philippine Velge, Nabhaan Rizwan and Lori Petty, with Gael Garcìa Bernal and Danielle Deadwyler recurring.
The 10-episode limited series will premieres on HBO Max on December 16.

The 25-year-old Costa Rican actor has joined the cast of Fullscreen Media’s original drama The Deleted.
Written and directed by Bret Easton Ellis, The Deleted follows members of a cult in Northern Washington who escaped to Los Angeles and go off the grid. When escapees begin disappearing, they’re driven to find one another for protection as nefarious cult leaders hunt them down.
Other cast members include Orange Is the New Black’s Madeline Brewer,The Hunger Games’ Ian Nelson, Nash Grier (The Outfield), Will Peltz (Unfriended), Spencer Neville (Amerigeddon) and Todd Maurer (Scream Queens).

In one episode, Zovatto will play Zach alongside Sarah Hyland and Patton Oswalt, a smooth-talking heartthrob who can not only sell people on the merits of the brand new and terrifyingly real “Cinethrax” movie format, but gain the adoration of the episode’s young heroin.
In another episode, Izzo will play Val, a confident, brash upstart in the world of competitive video games. But while she ignores her burgeoning adult responsibilities, she discovers a mysterious Energy Drink that can slow down time and give her the competitive edge she thinks she needs.
The cast also includes Ashley Rickards, Joel McHale, Lea Michele, Ryan Lee and Sterling Beaumon.

Season 2 premieres on April 10.
