Trejo Seeks Crowdfunding Support for His Next Film “Social Security”

The 72-year-old Mexican American actor and his Bad Ass franchise director Craig Moss are reteaming and going the crowdfunding route for their next tie-up, the action comedy Social Security.

The pair are eyeing a production start this year for the pic, which tells the story of Trejo, playing himself, who protects a retirement home from a group of menacing jewelry thieves.

It had been set up briefly at 20th Century Fox, where the duo made three Bad Ass films, the latest in 2015.

Now they’re looking for funding to make what they are calling “Die Hard in a retirement home.”

The Indiegogo campaign launched today.

Like the Bad Ass movies Moss also wrote the film, which was initially conceived by the filmmakers for Trejo’s 70th birthday.

Additional casting is in the works.

Trejo to Participate in This Year’s Red Nose Day Special on NBC

It’s a Rudolph-like moment for Danny Trejo

The 72-year-old Mexican American actor, best known for portraying villains and anti-heroes, has signed on for NBC’s Red Nose Day Special.

The fundraiser, which aims to help lift kids out of poverty, will be broadcast live on May 26 from 9:00 – 11:oo pm ET on NBC.

The special, hosted by Craig Ferguson, features comedy, musical performances and short films that shed light on children in need here at home and around the world.

Also scheduled to make an appearance on the special are Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tony Hale, Iwan Rheon, Sterling K. Brown, Yvette Nicole Brown, Margot Robbie, Jane Lynch, Connie Britton, Jay Pharaoh, Mayim BialikEllen DeGeneres, Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Julianne Moore, Liam Neeson, Sarah Silverman, Tracy Morgan, Key & Peele, Anna Kendrick, Seth Rogen, Zac Efron and Ellie Kemper, along with Kristen Bell, Emma Watson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Rose Byrne, Blake Griffin, Emma Thompson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Steve Buscemi, Adam Devine and Ron Funches. Additional talent will be announced at a later date.

El Rey Network Renews Garcia’s “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series” for Third Season

El Rey Network has renewed From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, starring the 33-year-old Mexican/Spanish American actor, for a third season.

The announcements comes ahead of the show’s October 27 Season 2 finale.

A reimagining of Robert Rodriguez’s 1996 movie, which Miramax released theatrically at the time, the series expands on the supernatural crime saga revolving around brothers Seth and Richie Gecko.

Season 3 will continue their saga as they fight the culebra underworld.

D.J.Cotrona stars as Seth Gecko and Zane Holtz as Richie Gecko, along with Garcia, Eiza González, Wilmer Valderrama, Madison Davenport, Brandon Soo Hoo, Jake Busey, Danny Trejo, Esai Morales, Jeff Fahey and Briana Evigan.

Demi Lovato guest stars in the last two episodes of Season 2.

Season 2 was produced by Miramax in association with Rodriguez International Pictures, FactoryMade Ventures and Sugarcane Entertainment.

The 48-year-old part-Mexican American actress has signed with CESD Talent Agency for acting.

Dash, who rose to accalaim as one of the stars of Clueless, has served as a Fox News cultural commentator since last May, but she’s also set to appear in two upcoming movies: the magic-themed thriller Sleight, starring Dulé Hill, and horror film Death House, with Danny Trejo and Robert Englund.

She also signed a deal earlier this year to publish There Goes My Social Life with Regnery Publishing.

Dash continues to be represented by manager Adam Trahan at Silver Fox Entertainment and law firm Shukat Arrow.

Morales to Star in Robert Rodriguez’s “From Dusk To Dawn: The Series”

The 51-year-old Puerto Rican actor has landed a recurring role on the upcoming second season of Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk To Dawn: The Series.

Morales will portray Lord Amancio Malvado, a figure of terrifying cruelty and power who has a complicated and obsessive relationship with Santánico Pandemonium (portrayed by Eiza González).

He joins previously announced new cast members Danny Trejo and Briana Evigan.

El Rey Network’s first original scripted series, From Dusk Till Dawn is based on the cult classic film of the same name by El Rey co-founder Rodriguez, who created the series and directed four of the first season’s episodes.

Morales, currently a series regular on HBO’s The Brink, has previously appeared in Criminal Minds and NYPD Blue.

The 70-year-old Mexican American actor, one of filmmaker Robert Rodriguez’s most valuable players, is joining him for the second season of From Dusk To Dawn: The Series.

Trejo appeared in Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn film franchise as Razor Charlie, and now in the series he’ll play The Regulator, a horrifying agent of evil who has been summoned to perform a deadly errand.

The 10-episode second season is currently in production in Austin, TX.

Uncork’d Entertainment Acquires Distribution Rights to Trejo’s “The Burning Dead”

It’s official… Danny Trejo will have American audiences feeling the burn next year.

Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired the North America distribution rights to the 70-year-old Mexican American actor’s zombie thriller The Burning Dead, co-starring Tom Downey.

Directed by Rene Perez, the film centers on a sheriff who must rescue an estranged family from a mountain during a volcano eruption and fight off a horde of lava-filled zombies brought to life by a curse.

Jeff Miller and Jason Ancona wrote and produced the film, which also stars Moniqua Plante (Nashville) and Robert F. Lyons (Death Wish II, Murphy’s Law).

Uncork’d will release the film in early 2015.

Trejo to Compete in Beer Sales Competition at This Week’s Cowboys Game to Support ¡Adelante!

The 70-year-old Mexican American actor and Machete star will go head to head the Discovery Channel’s Richard Rawlings during a friendly beer sales competition scheduled to take place before the start of the September 28 Dallas Cowboys game at AT&T Stadium.

The competition has been orchestrated by Miller Lite as part of its is Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations.

Trejo and Rawlings from Discovery Channel’s Fast N’ Loud will each have 30 minutes to sell as much beer as possible in the Miller Lite Corral in order to be declared the winner.

Miller Lite will make a $10,000 donation on behalf of the winning celebrity to ¡Adelante! U.S. Education Leadership Fund, a non-profit organization that focuses on providing leadership development and scholarships for Hispanic college students.

“We are delighted to add extra excitement to the Miller Lite Corral during the game that celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month. We hope consumers also get excited about it and choose to take part in the friendly competition or at least cheer on their favorite celebrity,” said Paul Stiff, MillerCoors regional alliances manager for the central region of Texas. “We encourage our fans to join in on the celebration, experience our new packaging, and enjoy some Miller Time before the game.”

An on-field check presentation will take place during halftime to announce the winner and present the funds to ¡Adelante! Miller Lite’s donation will be used to help further the education and professional development of Latino students.

Rodriguez to Appear on Discovery Channel’s “Shark After Dark”

The 46-year-old Mexican American filmmaker has been added to the list of guest for this year’s Shark After Dark, Discovery Channel’s live Shark Week late-night talk show.

Rodriguez joins a list of guests that includes Ashley Tisdale, Matt Walsh, Chelsea Handler, Jake Johnson, Damon Wayans Jr., Danny Trejo and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

This year’s crop of guests aren’t necessarily names with obvious shark connections, but some of the guests, including Tisdale, are rabid Shark Week fans, according to producers who trolled Twitter to find obsessive fans.

Tom Green is reprising his character, Blurb, the alien shark cousin of Bob The Shark, who once again will be played by Craig Ferguson’s CBS late night warm-up act, Bob Oschack. Bob The Shark was introduced during last year’s Shark Week and gained 33.7K Twitter followers.

Returning host Josh Wolf will lead viewers through an hour-long celebration of all things shark-related. The late-night show plays an important role in Discovery Channel’s Shark Week interactivity campaign.  During the program viewers can ask questions of/make comments about guests, including the shark experts who’ll be the first guest each night, commenting on that night’s shark-show lead-in.

Researcher/shark ecologist Paul Clerkin for instance, who’s a post grad at the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, which runs the Pacific Shark Research Center and participates in a program run through the center to help save deep sea sharks brought up as catch by-product.

Trailer Released for “Reach Me,” Starring Trejo, Sylvester Stallone and Kelsey Grammer

The 70-year-old Mexican American actor, who often stars in action films as hypermasculine characters, villains and anti-heroes, is starring opposite Sylvester Stallone and Kelsey Grammer in the dramedy Reach Me.

Trejo portrays Vic in the film, which centers on a group of people who all have a connection to a self-help book authored by a reclusive former football coach.

Directed by John Herzfeld, the indie film also stars Lauren Cohan, Terry Crews, Nelly, Kevin Connoly, Tom Sizemore, Ryan Kwanten, Kyra Sedgwick, Danny Trejo, Tom Berenger and Danny Aiello.

“It’s a feel-good movie with an upbeat, inspirational story. It’s about a dozen broken characters who get a second chance in life by coming into contact with this book,” says Herzfeld.

The project initially launched a Kickstarter campaign, but later switched to a similar yet more flexible platform, Indiegogo, which allows international contributions and pledges beyond $10k.
