Zetna Fuentes Among Directors for Hulu’s “The Girl From Plainville”

Zetna Fuentes is headed to Plainville

The Emmy-nominated Latina director will direct two episodes of Hulu’s limited series The Girl From Plainville, starring Elle Fanning, Colton Ryan, Chloë Sevigny and Norbert Leo Butz.

Zetna Fuentes

Fuentes joins a roster of directors for the project that includes series co-creator Liz Hannah, Pippa Bianco and Lisa Cholodenko.

The series hails from Hannah and Dr. Death exec producer Patrick Macmanus and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Written by Hannah and Macmanus and produced by UCP, The Girl From Plainville stars Fanning as Michelle Carter and is inspired by the true story of her controversial “texting suicide” case. Based off the Esquire article by Jesse Barron, the limited series will explore Carter’s relationship with Conrad “Coco” Roy III (Ryan) and the events that led to his death and, later, her controversial conviction of involuntary manslaughter.

Fuentes is an NAACP Image Award and three-time Daytime Emmy nominated television and theater director.

Sasha Calle: The First Latina Supergirl in DC Universe

Sasha Calle is making superhero history…

The 25-year-old Colombian American actress has landed the feature role of DC Universe’s new Supergirl.

Sasha Calle

Calle, chosen from more than 425 actresses who auditioned, is the first Latina Supergirl ever in DC history.

She will make her debut in Warner Bros’ The Flash.

Andy Muschietti, The Flash director, watched all the auditions and, along with DC Films boss Walter Hamada and producers, was reportedly blown away by the toughness and vulnerability Calle brought to the role.

“The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role,” said Muschietti.

The actresses weren’t informed what part they were reading for until late in the process. Calle also did a chemistry read with Flash star Ezra Miller. All auditions, chem reads and meetings, especially during COVID-19, were done over Zoom.

Calle plays the role of Lola Rosales on The Young and the RestlessShe was nominated last year in the Outstanding Young Performer in a Drama Series at the Daytime Emmys. She also starred in the YouTube miniseries Socially Awkward.

In the DC media canon, Supergirl was first played by Helen Slater in the 1984 Warner Bros movie and later by Melissa Benoist on the Warner Bros television series for 126 episodes.

Muschietti revealed the news to Calle during a Zoom call, see her reaction below:

Adrienne Houghton’s Fox Daytime Talk Show “The Real” Renewed for Two More Seasons

Adrienne Houghton is keepin’ it real…

Fox Television Stations has renewed its hit daytime syndicated talk show The Real, featuring the 34-year-old Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian American singer-songwriter, actress and dancer as a co-host, for two more seasons.

Adrienne Houghton

The Real, which premiered in July 2013 during a successful trial summer run, has been renewed the series for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons on Fox’s O&Os in 17 markets, reaching over 37% of television homes.

The Daytime Emmy-nominated talker has grown into a social media powerhouse with more than 12 million social actions last season, and it’s on pace to eclipse that number midway through this season.

In addition, The Real has the youngest average age of all talk shows in syndication, at 51.

Hosts Houghton, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai and Tamera Mowry-Housley bring their unique perspectives to the show through candid conversations about their personal lives, current events, beauty, fashion and relationships.

“’Since 2010-11 season, 23 talk shows have launched and The Real and Steve Harvey are the only two series to last four or more seasons,” said Ken Werner, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. “While there are other panel talk series on the air, what truly makes The Real stand out from the pack is that it is comprised of four very strong, very authentic and very engaging hosts whose chemistry is unrivaled. Fox has been with us since the start, and we are thrilled that together we have built a strong franchise that will continue to entertain, inform and inspire viewers for years and years to come.”

“On one hand, it’s very gratifying to be renewing a program that started as a test,” said Frank Cicha, Senior Vice President, Programming, Fox Television Stations. “On the other hand, it doesn’t matter how it got here. Warner Bros. set out to fill a void and it fit our audience perfectly. Congrats to the cast and crew.”

In season four, The Real was live for the first time, giving the viewers a chance to interact with the hosts during the show in real time, via social media.
