Yandel is back on top…

The 47-year-old Puerto Rican singer and songwriter and the half-member of the reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel and Myke Towers have notched another No. 1 on Billboard’Latin Airplay chart as “Borracho y Loco” crowns the list dated February 17.

Yandel & Myke TowersIt’s the first collaboration by two Latin rhythm acts to top the chart in 2024.

Yandel and Towers’ track advances from the runner-up slot with 10.3 million audience impressions earned in the U.S. in the week ending February 8 (up 18%), according to Luminate.

It sends last week’s No. 1, Xavi’s “La Diabla” down to No. 7 after one week in charge. The latter declined 26% to 7.1 million in audience.

“The truth is that it makes me very happy that with so many years making music my songs still reach the first places and top lists in the United States and other parts of the world,” Yandel told Billboard.

As “Borracho y Loco” lands at the summit, it becomes the pair’s second No. 1 team-up. The Puerto Ricans last ruled the overall Latin Airplay ranking through a Nio Garcia, Casper Mágico, Ozuna, Wisin and Flow La Movie collab, when “Travesuras” topped the tally for one-week in 2021.

With “Borracho y Loco” Yandel scores his 16th champ on Latin Airplay. Further, he ties with Nicky Jam for the seventh-most No. 1s among male urban artists since the tally launched in 1994.

Here’s a review of the winners:

36, J Balvin
33, Ozuna
28, Daddy Yankee
24, Bad Bunny
24, Maluma
22, Wisin

“I am beyond grateful for my fans, my producers and the artists I have had the joy of collaborating with,” Yandel adds. “Now another No. 1 arrives through ‘Borracho y Loco.’ Myke Towers, thanks brother! Here we go, another No. 1 for the books!”

For Towers, the rapper and singer-songwriter lands his 10th No. 1 with his 31st chart appearance. He last topped the chart with the viral TikTok hit “Lala,” which spent two weeks at No. 1 in September 2023.

“Borracho y Loco” takes over Latin Airplay in its 18th week, marking the second-longest climb to the top for both artists. Previously, Yandel placed three songs at the summit each one in its 20th week, including two featured roles: through Maluma’s “El Perdedor,” and in IAmChino’s “Ay Dios Miío,” which also featured Pitbull and Chacal, and with “Nunca Me Olvides,” all in 2016.

Jesse & Joy

Jesse & Joy were honored for penning their single “Mi Tesoro,” which served as the theme song for the Mexican telenovela Qué Pobres Tan Ricos, starring Jaime Camil and Zuria Vega. The duo previously earned a Best Theme Novelero at the 2014 Premios Juventud.

But Jesse & Joy weren’t the only Latino honorees…

Enrique Iglesias and Descemer Bueno were also honored at the ASCAP Film & Television Music Awards.

The Spanish superstar and the Cuban singer were honored for Iglesias’ duet with Marco Antonio Solis, “El Perdedor,” which served as the opening theme to Mexican telenovela Lo que la vida me robó. The 39-year-old Spanish singer’s new hit single “Bailando” (feat. Descemer Bueno and Gente D’Zona), has been chosen as the theme song for Telemundo’s new telenovela, Reina de Corazones.”

Enrique Iglesias

The series, described as a “story full of mystery, espionage, conspiracies, intrigue, crime and romance” that unfolds in Las Vegas, premieres July 7 and will air weeknights at 8 p.m.

Iglesais’ up-tempo dance track, which blends urban, pop and flamenco beats and boasts a beautifully choreographed video shot between the Dominican Republic and Cuba, has topped Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart for six consecutive weeks.

The track jumped to No. 1 after Iglesias performed it at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in April, which aired on Telemundo.

Telenovelas are widely viewed as a major promotional tool for Latin musicians and landing the theme song in a successful soap has proven to greatly boost a track’s success.

Iglesias’ music has often found its way into soap operas. Most recently, his single “El Perdedor,” featuring Mexican crooner Marco Antonio Solís, was the theme of soap opera “Lo Que La Vida Me Robó,” which was produced by Televisa in Mexico, and aired in the U.S. on Univision.

Reina de Corazones is produced by Telemundo and shot here in the U.S.

Iglesias Notches His 24th No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs Chart

Enrique Iglesias is definitely not el perdedor when it comes to No. 1 songs on the Billboard charts…

The 38-year-old Spanish singer’s latest single “El Perdedor,” featuring Marco Antonio Solis, has reached the summit on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart.

Enrique Iglesias

Iglesias’ latest chart-topper extends his lead of No. 1s on the chart to a total of 24. Luis Miguel is a distant second with 16 No. 1s.

That song followed “Donde Estan Corazon” and “Lloro Por Ti” (both from 2008) and “Gracias A Ti” by Wisin & Yandel (2009), on which he was featured.

The recently released music video for “El Perdedor” has greatly aided the track’s ascent as it received 1.3 million domestic clicks, with 84% of those plays occurring on VEVO on YouTube.

“Perdedor” claims both streaming and digital gainer honors, moving 6,000 digital downloads, a 104% surge, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
