Otmara Marrero to Star Opposite Edgar Ramirez in Netflix Series “Florida Man”

Otmara Marrero is headed to The Sunshine State

The 32-year-old Cuban American actress will star opposite Edgar Ramirez in Netflix’s eight-episode series Florida Man.

Marrero joins a roster of new cast additions that includes Anthony LaPagliaAbbey Lee, Lex Scott Davis and Emory Cohen as series regulars, with Clark Gregg joining in a recurring role in the hourlong series from veteran television writer producer Donald Todd and Jason Bateman & Michael Costigan’s Aggregate Films.

Additionally, Netflix has tapped Miguel Arteta to direct the pilot and second episode and executive produce. This reunites him with Ramírez with whom he worked on the Netflix feature Yes Day.

Rounding out directors for the season are Julian Farino (eps 3/4), Haifaa Al Mansour (eps 5/6) and Kevin Bray (eps 7/8).

In Florida Man, created by Todd, when a struggling ex-cop (Ramírez) is forced to return to his home state of Florida to find a Philly mobster’s runaway girlfriend, what should be a quick gig becomes a spiraling journey into buried family secrets and an increasingly futile attempt to do the right thing in a place where so much is wrong. The series is described as a wild odyssey into a sunny place for shady people in the spirit of Body Heat and Elmore Leonard’s Out of Sight.

Marrero is Patsy, Mike’s sister, living in Orlando, is relentlessly upbeat, churchgoing, and bravely soldiering on in the life she made too early with husband Deacon and daughter Tyler.

Marrero’s credits include comedy series Connecting and the role of Izzy Morales on StartUp.

The 44-year-old Venezuelan actor will star in Florida Man, which has received a formal eight-episode series from Netflix.

Ramirez, the star of the streamer’s popular film Yes Day, will headline the hourlong series from veteran television writer/producer Donald Todd and Jason Bateman & Michael Costigan’s Aggregate Films.

In Florida Man, created by Todd, when a struggling ex-cop (Ramírez) is forced to return to his home state of Florida to find a Philly mobster’s runaway girlfriend, what should be a quick gig becomes a spiraling journey into buried family secrets and an increasingly futile attempt to do the right thing in a place where so much is wrong. The series is described as a wild odyssey into a sunny place for shady people in the spirit of Body Heat and Elmore Leonard’s Out of Sight.

The series is not related to limited series Florida Man starring Joel Edgerton, which is in development at Anonymous Content. It’s based on Tom Cooper’s novel, with Graham Gordy writing.

Ramírez stars opposite Jennifer Garner in Netflix’s movie Yes Day, which was estimated to be seen by 53 million households in the first four weeks. He recently starred opposite Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant in HBO’s high-rated and award-winning limited series The Undoing. He soon will begin production on Borderlands and next will star in Disney’s Jungle Cruise and Universal’s The 355.

Joe Minoso to Appear on Third Season of Epix’s “Get Shorty”

The 40-year-old Latino actor and Chicago Fire star has landed a recurring role opposite Chris O’Dowd and Ray Romano on the upcoming third season of Epix’s Get Shorty, from MGM Television.

Get Shorty is based in part on Elmore Leonard’s 1990 bestselling novel and created for television by Davey Holmes

The dark comedy follows Miles Daly (O’Dowd), muscle for a Nevada crime ring who tries to become a movie producer in Hollywood with the help of a washed-up producer, Rick Moreweather (Romano), as a means to leave his criminal past behind. In season two, Miles struggled to reconcile his ambitions as a filmmaker and a family man with his skill set as a career criminal. His progress in Hollywood was jeopardized when the washed-up producer, with whom he partnered in season one, agreed to wear a Federal wire.

In season three, Miles (O’Dowd) embraces more ruthless methods as he settles scores and attempts to climb the Hollywood ladder.

Minoso will play Hector, a Capotillo gang leader that controls crime in Los Angeles.

Minoso plays the series regular role of Joe Cruz on NBC’s Chicago Fire, which premieres its eighth season this fall.

His other credits include television appearances on Boss, Shameless and Prison Break.

Epix to Premiere Season Three of Lidia Porto’s Dark Comedy “Get Shorty” in October

Epix will premiere season three of the 56-year-old Colombian actress’ dark comedy Get Shorty on October 6.

The dark comedy from MGM Television, based in part on the 1990s best-selling Elmore Leonard novel of the same name and created for television by Davey Holmes, will return this fall with seven all-new episodes. 

Season 3 will see Miles Daly, newly released from prison, in a cat and mouse game with studio head Laurence Budd, while Amara (Porto) and Rick flee to the Guatemalan jungle to escape the FBI.

Season 3 ofGet Shorty premieres on Sunday, October 6 at 10:00 pm ET.

He’ll play Queso, a lieutenant in the Capotillo Cartel that controls crime in Los Angeles and butts heads with Yago, who is newly released from prison after the events of season two.

In season two of the series, Miles Daly (Chris O’Dowd) struggled to reconcile his ambitions as a filmmaker and a family man with his skill set as a career criminal. Raymond Cruz to Appear in Season 2 of Epix’s “Get Shorty”

The 56-year-old Latino actor and former Major Crimes/The Closer star has landed a recurring role opposite Chris O’Dowd and Ray Romano in the second season of Epix’s Get Shorty.

Cruz will play Swayze, the brutal and murderous leader of a Latino prison gang who styles himself after Patrick Swayze, with long, flowing locks of hair and 80s-inspired dance moves.

Cruz recently wrapped the sixth and final season of TNT’s Major Crimes. He also has recurred on Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad, among other credits.

Season 2 premieres on Sunday, August 12 at 9:00 pm ET.

Cardona Joins the Cast of USA’s Unititled Miami-Based Pilot

He’s already a big star in Latin America… But Manolo Cardona may soon be wowing audiences in the United States.

In what could be his first acting role on English-language television, the 35-year-old Colombian-born actor has joined the cast of USA’s untitled hour-long pilot from Numbers creators Nicolas Falacci & Cheryl Heuton.

Based on a short story from Elmore Leonard‘s When The Women Come Out To Dance, it centers on Billy (Bryan Greenberg), a Miami businessman who, contemplating a run for political office, tries to increase his chances of being elected by marrying Lourdes (Miss Bala star Stephanie Sigman), a Colombian woman on the run from her troubled past.

What starts as a marriage of convenience quickly escalates into much more as his new wife proves to be more resourceful at “fixing” any problem the corrupt South Miami political scene throws at her husband.

Cardona will play Andres Varges, a handsome political science professor at the University of Miami. A man with a past he’d rather forget, he once worked for Colombian military intelligence and agrees to help Lourdes when she seeks him out for his expertise in the political arena, despite the complicated past between the two.
