The first official trailer for the 33-year-old Guatemalan and Cuban American actor’s latest project In Secret has just been released.
Originally called Thérèse Raquin, the period drama stars Elizabeth Olsen as Thérèse, the young sexually repressed heroine of Émile Zola’s 1867 novel who finds herself trapped in a loveless marriage to her cousin Camille (Harry Potter‘s Tom Felton).
When Camille’s artist pal Laurent (Oscar Isaac) comes to visit, adulterous sparks fly hurtling Thérèse down a path of obsession, love and madness.
Roadside Attractions has set a post-Valentine’s Day release for the film, on February 21, 2014.
Directed by Charlie Stratton, it’s based on Emile Zola’s salacious novel Thérèse Raquin.
Set in 1860s Paris, the film is a tale of obsessive love, adultery and revenge. Therese (portrayed by Olsen) is a sexually repressed beautiful young woman trapped in a loveless marriage to her sickly cousin, Camille (Felton), by her domineering aunt, Madame Raquin (Lange). Her husband’s friend (Isaac) catches her eye and things go all kinds of wrong from there.
The film, based on Emile Zola’s novel Therese Raquin, also stars Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Felton and Jessica Lange.
Set in the lower depths of 1860s Paris, Olsen plays Therese, a sexually repressed woman trapped into a loveless marriage to her sickly cousin Camille (Felton) by her domineering aunt, Madame Raquin (Lange). After she meets her husband’s alluring friend Laurent (Isaac), she embarks on an illicit affair that leads to tragic consequences.
Shirley Henderson, John Kavanagh, Mackenzie Crook and Matt Lucas co-star.
Therese is set to have its world premiere on September 7 at the Toronto Film Festival.
