Pedro Almodovar Earns Three European Film Awards Nominations for “Pain and Glory”

It’s all glory and no pain for Pedro Almodovar

The European Film Academy has unveiled its nominations for the 32nd European Film Awards, with the 70-year-old Spanish filmmaker’s latest project earning four nods.

Almodovar’s Pain and Glory, Spain’s official entry into the Oscar race in the Best International Feature Film category,is up for European Film 2019

Almodovar, a seven-time EFAswinner, is also up for two individual prizes… European Screenwriterand European Directorfor writing and helming Pain and Glory.

Meanwhile, Antonio Banderashas been nominated in the European Actor category for his acclaimed work in Almodovar’s film.

The Spanish actor previously won a Europe Film Award in 1998 for his performance in The Mask of Zorro.

The ceremony will be held on December 7 in Berlin.

Bárbara Lennie Earns European Film Awards Nomination

Bárbara Lennie’s latest performance is earning her some serious acclaim…

Nominations have been announced for the 31st European Film Awards, with the 34-year-old Spanish actress landing a nod.

Lennie, a Goya Award-winner, is nominated in the Best Actress category for her performance in the Jaime Rosales-directed film Petra.

Almudena Carracedo and Robert Bahar’s The Silence of Others, a film that reveals the epic struggle of victims of Spain’s 40-year dictatorship under General Francisco Franco, has earned a nod in the European Documentary 2018 category.

Raul de la Fuente’s film with Damian Nenow, Another Day of Life, earned a nod in the Eurpean Animated Feature Film 2018 category.

The European Film Academy will host the European Film Awards on December 15 in Seville.

Nahuel Pérez Biscayart Earns European Film Awards Nomination for “BPM”

Nahuel Pérez Biscayart is earning special recognition for his latest project…

The 31-year-old Argentine actor has earned a European Film Awards nomination.

Pérez Biscayart earned the nod in the European Actor 2017 category for his performance in the French film BPM, which had its world premiere at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

Pérez Biscayart plays Sean Dalmazo in the film, which is set in the early 1990s. The film depicts a group of HIV/AIDS activists associated with the Paris chapter of ACT UP.

Directed by Robin Campillo, BPM is up for Best European Film.

The European Film Academy has been predictive of the Foreign Language Oscar in recent years including for such winners as Ida, The Great Beauty and Amour.

The EFA ceremony will be held on December 9 in Berlin.

Almodóvar to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at the European Film Awards

Pedro Almodóvar is being honored for his film achievements…

The European Film Academy will honor the 63-year-old Spanish Oscar-winning filmmaker with its lifetime achievement award, the European Achievement in World Cinema prize, at the European Film Awards in Berlin this December.

Almodóvar has been among the most acclaimed, and successful, European directors since his 1988 melodrama Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown won the best young film honor at the inaugural European Film Awards and went on to arthouse success worldwide.

He has won five more European Film honors, as well as five BAFTAs, four French Cesar awards and two Oscars.

Almodóvar’s Oscar wins came in the best foreign language film category for All About My Mother (1999) and in the best screenplay category for Talk to Her (2002).

“I am very thankful for this award. From its creation, the European Film Academy has been very generous with me and my closest collaborators,” Almodóvar said in a statement. “I share with them the joy of this award.”

Almodóvar will be honored at the 26th European Film Awards in Berlin on December 7.

Iglesias Earns Composer Prize at the European Film Awards

The 57-year-old Spanish composer claimed the best composer prize at the European Film Awards on Saturday, as the European Film Academy celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Iglesias, the big winner at this year’s World Soundtrack Awards, earned the award for his critically acclaimed work on Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
