Iglesias Wins Favorite Latin Artist at the American Music Awards

It’s Lucky No. 7 for Enrique Iglesias

The 40-year-old Spanish singer-songwriter picked up his seventh AMA at Sunday night’s American Music Awards.

Iglesias beat out Ricky Martin and Romeo Santos for Favorite Latin Artist.

“I can’t belive its been 16 years since my first #AMA. Thank you to all my fans for making this possible,” he wrote in an Instagram post that accompanied a picture of the singer kissing his award. “I really couldn’t do this without you guys!!! Gracias a todos mis fans! I love you!”

Iglesias holds the record for the most Favorite Latin Artist AMAs.

Iglesias picked up his first trophy in the category in 1999, and won the award again in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2008 and 2014, before repeating as a winner this year.

The 39-year-old Spanish singer-songwriter, who was named Favorite Latin Artist at this year’s American Music Awards, has landed on YouTube’s list of 2014’s top 10 music videos.

The official video for Iglesias’ international smash “Bailando (Español),” featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente De Zona
comes in at No. 2 on the year-end list, behind the clip for Katy Perry’s “Dark House,” featuring Juicy J.

The Spanish version of Iglesias’ “Bailando” video has logged 589-million views since it was published on VEVO on April 11, 2014.

The English version, featuring Sean Paul, has logged an additional 80-million views, while a Portuguese version featuring Luan Santana has registered 19-million views.

“Bailando,” which had a record run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, earned Iglesias three Latin Grammy awards in November.

Meanwhile, Shakira has the distinction of landing two clips in the top 5.

The 37-year-old Colombian superstar’s sizzling hot music video for “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” featuring Rihanna, comes in at No. 3 with 443-million views. The video for the Spanish version of the song, “Nunca Me Acuerdo de Olvidarte” logged an additional 14-million views.

Following right behind: Shakira’s clip for her World Cup anthem “La La La (Brazil 2014),” featuring Carlinhos Brown, at No. 4 with 419-million views. The clip for the Spanish version of the song logged an additional 42-million views, while the clip for the original pre-World Cup version of the song “Dare (La La La)” garnered 52-million page views.

The 39-year-old Spanish singer-songwriter picked up the sixth American Music Award of his career for Favorite Latin Artist during Sunday night’s award show.

With the win, Iglesias—who has been nominated in the category 10 times—extends his lead for the most wins ahead of fellow nominee Marc Anthony, a two-time winner.

Hosted by Pitbull, the AMAs were held the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Voting for all the categories closed earlier this month, except for New Artist of the Year, for which fans were able to vote through the first hour of the awards show

Aguilera & Pitbull Groove at This Year’s American Music Awards

Shakira may have picked up the trophy for Favorite Latin Artist at this year’s American Music Awards… But it’s Christina Aguilera and Pitbull who brought the house down.

The 31-year-old half-Ecuadorian singer, who released her seventh studio album, Lotus, on Tuesday, and 31-year-old rap superstar both performed crowd-pleasing sets and managed to make musical magic together in another instance.

During Sunday night’s show at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre, Aguilera – dressed in a daring one-piece black sequin-covered ensemble with a trailing skirt – performed a medley of songs from her new album: “Lotus Intro,” “Army of Me” and “Let There Be Love.” Aguilera’s performance included an army of dancers dressed in outrageous costumes.

Aguilera then joined Pitbull for his performance of their dancetastic collaboration “Feel This Moment.” Mr. Worldwide also brought the audience to their feet with “Don’t Stop the Party.”

Shakira Wins Favorite Latin Artist at the American Music Awards

The 35-year-old Colombian singer and soon-to-be The Voice coach picked up the Favorite Latin Artist award at Sunday night’s American Music Awards.

Shakira, who was the first female to win the award in the category back in 2005, beat out Pitbull and Don Omar for the prize.

It’s the fourth win in the category for the expectant mom, who stands just one win shy of category-leader Enrique Iglesias.

Meanwhile, Shakira’s “Get It Started” collaboration partner, Pitbull, came away empty-handed after leading the Latino pack of nominees with two nods.
