Reyez was also announced as Smith’s special guest for their upcoming U.S. tour, which will see them hit arenas around the country this summer.

Sebastián Lelio to Direct Scarlett Johansson in Apple & A24’s ‘Genre-Bending” Film “Bride”

Sebastián Lelio has found his bride

The 46-year-old Chilean Oscar-winning director, screenwriter and producer will direct Scarlett Johansson in Bride, a “genre-bending” film from Apple and A24.

Sebastián Lelio

Johansson will produce the film, which Lelio is writing with Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo.

The plot follows a woman created to be an ideal wife — the singular obsession of a brilliant entrepreneur. When she rejects her creator, she’s forced to flee her confined existence, confronting a world that sees her as a monster. It is on the run that she finds her true identity, her surprising power, and the strength to remake herself as her own creation.

Lelio previously helmed the female-fronted films like the Academy Award-winning A Fantastic Woman, Disobedience, Gloria and Gloria Bell.

Sebastián Lelio’s “Gloria Bell,” the English Reimaging of His Hit “Gloria,” Opens Big in Limited Release

Sebastián Leliois making waves with his own English-language adaptation of his hit Spanish film…

The 45-year-old Chilean director’s Gloria Bell handily took the best specialty debut mantle over the weekend with one of the highest opening weekend per-theater averages for a limited release title this year.

Sebastián Lelio

The A24 feature starring Julianne MooreJohn Turturro and Michael Ceragrossed an estimated $154,775 in three-days, averaging $30,955.

Gloria Bellis the re-imagined English-language and L.A.-set drama of a free-spirit, based on Lelio’s 2014 title, Gloria, set in Santiago, Chile, which took in over $2.1M via Roadside Attractions stateside.

Gloria Bell

Gloria Bell’s nearly $31K opening PTA outpaced Lelio’s 2014 original, Gloria, which took in over $56K in its opening weekend in January of that year, averaging $18,818. That film, however, was set in Chile, was in Spanish and starred a veteran Chilean actor, Paulina García, who is not well known to North American audiences. The film proved to have legs though with its $2.1M North American cume, which in part made it attractive for a re-make in English starring a well known actor here.

Lelio adapted the story into English and then went on to direct his other projects, including Oscar-winning A Fantastic Woman ($2.02M cume) and Disobedience starringRachel Weiszand Rachel McAdams. That film, released by Bleecker Streetlast April, continues to be the filmmaker’s North American benchmark with a $237K opening weekend in five theaters ($47,479 PTA). It went on to cume over $3.49M on this continent.

Lelio and Moore reconnected after the director completed Disobedience. “She finished her other projects and we had a window in 2017,” said Lelio earlier in the week. “We put financing together very quickly and built a ‘family’ around Julianne including John Turturro and Michael Cera. I’ve always loved John Turturro’s work.”

A24 reported “enthusiastic sellouts” for Gloria Bell in New York and L.A. throughout the weekend. The company will roll the title into top markets this week ahead of a nationwide expansion set for March 22.

Gloria Trevi to be Inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame

Gloria Trevi is heading into the annals of Latin music history…

The Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame has revealed which five songwriters will be inducted at the prestigious hall this year, with the 50-year-old Mexican singer/songwriter making the grade.

Gloria Trevi

Trevi joins a roster that includes previous inductees, including last year’s Erika Ender, Carlos Vives and Ana Gabriel, to name a few.

Besides having a rebellious and over-the-top personality onstage, Trevi is also known as a songwriter and philanthropist. In her nearly three-decade music career, she’s penned more than 400 songs and released 13 albums, four of which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart: Gloria in 2011, El Amor in 2015, Immortal in 2016 and Versus in 2017.

Joining Trevi is Chucho Valdés.

As a pianist, composer and arranger, the 76-year-old Cuban artist become one of the most influential figures in modern Afro-Cuban jazz. He’s a winner of six Grammys and three Latin Grammys. On November 27, 2010, Chucho peaked at No. 8 on the Latin Pop Albumschart thanks to his collaboration with Buika on her album El Ultimo Trago.

Ecuadorian singer and songwriter Carlos Rubira Infante has also made the list. He’s known for bringing to the forefront the country’s national music style, pasillo and pasacalle music. At 96 years old, he was awarded the National Prize in ArtPremio Eugenio Espejo” in 2008 from the president of Ecuador and has penned more than 400 songs.

Another honoree, Fernando Osorio.

Born in Colombia but raised in Venezuela, this singer-songwriter is the man behind some of the most unforgettable Latin songs. His first international success was with “Solo con un Beso,” a song he wrote for Ricardo Montaner in 1988, peaking at No. 7 on the Hot Latin Songs chart. Osorio nabbed the Latin Grammy for best tropical song in 2004 for composing Celia Cruz‘s “Rie y Llora” before her death.

And last but not least… KC Porter will be honored.

Bon Jovi, Janet Jackson and Laura Pausini all have one thing in common: KC Porter. The American record producer, songwriter, musician and singer is known for crossing over many artists into the Spanish-speaking market. He’s a nine-time Grammy winner for his production work on Carlos Santana‘s Supernatural and has written and produced some of Ricky Martin’s biggest hits, including “María.”

For the past six years, the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame, founded by Desmond Child and Rudy Pérez, has honored the world’s greatest Latin music creators and their memorable songs.

The 2018 honorees will be officially inducted at the sixth annual La Musa Awards ceremony and gala, taking place October 18 at the James L. Knight Center in Miami.

Trevi Announces First Dates for the U.S. Leg of Her “El Amor” World Tour

Gloria Trevi is bring a little amor to the world…

The 47-year-old Mexican singer, known as the “Supreme Diva of Mexican Pop,” will kick off the U.S. leg of her El Amor world tour at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on August 21, the same day she releases her highly anticipated new album.

Gloria Trevi

“These are songs that have transformed my life, that have taught me about love and how I want to be loved,” Trevi said in a statement. “I know I will leave pieces of my soul on this tour, which will be very physically and emotionally demanding but it will be worth it.”

Trevi enlisted Chilean producer Humberto Gatica for the as-yet-untitled new album, with the first single scheduled for release on May 19.

Trevi recently attended the premiere of her new biopic last month at South by Southwest. Directed by Christian Keller from a screenplay by Sabina Berman and starring Sofia Espinosa, Gloria chronicles the pop provocateur’s tumultuous rise to stardom, how she came to be known as the “Mexican Madonna,” her stint in a Brazilian jail due to bizarre criminal allegations, her exoneration and eventual comeback.

“I watched the movie at my fans’ suggestion,” Trevi told Billboard’s Leila Cobo during a Q&A at SXSW prior to the film’s first U.S. screening. “It’s not easy to see your life reflected and I personally had to understand that it’s not a documentary, but a film with dramatic license. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me get angry. It was hard to watch, but even with all the dramatic license it took, it’s a film with a positive message.”

“It’s hard to play me,” she added with wry humor. “I’m like a tragicomedy; I make people laugh and cry.”

Tickets for Trevi’s “El Amor” tour will go on sale April 24 on axs.com. Shows from Los Angeles to El Paso, Texas, have been announced so far, with more to follow.
