Nicole Richie to Star in Indie Comedy “Summer Camp”

Nicole Richie is camping it up…

The 41-year-old half-Mexican American actress and fashion designer will star in the indie comedy Summer Camp from writer-director Castille Landon (After franchise).

Nicole RichieRichie joins a list of cast addutions that includes Beverly D’Angelo, Dennis Haysbert and Josh Peck.

Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates, Alfre Woodard and Eugene Levy will lead the ensemble, with Betsy Sodaro and Tom Wright rounding it out.

The film heading into production next month in North Carolina tells the story of Nora, Ginny and Mary, who have been best friends since childhood, spending their summers together inseparably at sleepaway camp. As the years have passed, they’ve seen each other less and less, so when the chance to reunite for a summer camp reunion arises, they all take it, some begrudgingly and others, excitedly. Each of their lives might not be where they’d imagined, but one thing is for sure — Nora, Ginny and Mary need each other, and summer camp reminds them why.

Summer Camp is a Saks Picture Company production, in association with and financed by Taylor & Dodge and Grant S. Johnson’s Project Infinity.

Richie starred in the Tina Fey-produced NBC comedy Great News, which ran for two seasons, and also topped the Quibi comedy series, Nikki Fre$h, revolving around her rapper alter ego. She’s additionally been seen on narrative series like Bless This MessGrace and FrankieCamping and Empire, as well as such reality series as Making the Cut, Candidly Nicole, Project Runway and The Simple Life.

Lilah Richcreek Estrada to Appear on NBC’s “Chicago Med”

The half-Latina American actress has joined the cast of NBC’s Chicago Med as a recurring guest star.

Richcreek Estrada will portray Nellie Cuevas, a psych fellow working alongside Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt).

Chicago Med follows the lives of an elite team of medical professionals working in the emergency room at the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.

Chicago Med is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Wolf Entertainment.

Richcreek Estrada most recently starred in the Disney+ series Four Dads and the Untitled Leslie Odom and Kerry Washington Project for NBC.

Her other credits include ABC’s The Wonder Years, FX’s Dave, and Netflix’s Grace and Frankie.

Brian Jordan Alvarez to Executive Produce, Write & Star In FX’s Comedy Pilot “English Teacher”

FX has given the green light to the comedy pilot English Teacher from the 34-year-old Latino producer, actor and writer and Paul Simms.

English Teacher is a comedy about gay high school English teacher Evan (Alvarez) and his fellow teachers in Austin as they try to balance the competing demands of the students and their parents in a world where the rules seem to change every day.

Alvarez has appeared on Will & Grace, Get Shorty, Grace and Frankie and Jane the Virgin.

He also created the web series The Gay and Wonderous Life of Caleb Gallo.

Angelique Cabral to Star in ABC’s Comedy Pilot “Maggie”

The 42-year-old part-Mexican American actress will star opposite Rebecca Rittenhouse in the ABC comedy pilot Maggie, based on Tim Curcio’s short film.

Cabral joins a roster of new series regular cast additions that includes half-Honduran American actress Chloe Bridges, Nichole Sakura and Kerri Kenney.

The project hails from Maggie Mull, daughter of actor Martin Mull, and Justin Adler. 20th Television produces. Natalia Anderson has been tapped to direct the pilot.

In addition to Rittenhouse, Sakura, Cabral, Bridges and Kenney join previously announced series regulars David Del Rio, Chris Elliott, Ray Ford and Leonardo Nam.

Written by Mull and Adler and directed by Anderson, the single-camera comedy follows a young woman (Rittenhouse) who tries to cope with life while coming to terms with her abilities as a psychic. She can see everyone’s future, but her present is a mess.

Sakura plays Louise, Maggie’s best friend since childhood. She is funny, single and ready to mingle, all the time. But make no mistake, Louise gets knocked down repeatedly and somehow she will always get right back up with an even better attitude, full of hope and belief that her life is going to somehow work out.

Cabral will play Amy, Ben’s (Del Rio) older sister. She’s basically the world’s most uptight hippie. A vegan baker who is all about ethical living and sustainable cooking, Amy’s found herself more caught up in the social media pressures of being a food Instagram star promoting that idea than actually helping the world.

Bridges will portray Jessie, Ben’s (Del Rio) girlfriend and Maggie’s (Rittenhouse) neighbor in the duplex. She’s friendly without seeming inauthentic, full of natural kindness and warmth.

Cabral’s credits include the series regular role of Colleen on the CBS’ comedy series Life In Pieces, the female lead on the Fox comedy series Enlisted, co-starring in the Amazon animated series Undone, co-starring in the indie film Band Aid, and recurring on Grace and Frankie for Netflix.

Bridges is best known for her role of Donna LaDonna in the CW’s The Carrie Diaries and her role as Sydney Driscoll in Pretty Little Liars. She most recently appeared in the recurring roles of Paloma on ABC’s Schooled, Tessa on the CW’s Charmed, and Roxy on Netflix’s Insatiable.

Netflix Acquires Skydance Television’s Global Spy Adventure Series Starring Monica Barbaro & Arnold Schwarzenegger

Skydance Television’s hour-long global spy adventure series starring the 30-year-old Latina actress and Arnold Schwarzenegger has landed at Netflix.

The project will reportedly now head into development with a script-to-series commitment.

Created by Nick Santora, the series, marking Schwarzenegger’s first major foray into scripted television, is described as a global spy adventure with a father (Schwarzenegger) and daughter (Barbaro) at the center of the story.

Santora is executive producing the untitled series as part of his overall deal with Skydance Television.

Schwarzenegger executive produces the new series along with Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Bill Bost; Carolyn Harris will oversee the project for the company.

The project was developed internally at Skydance TV and the independent studio cast the two leads before taking it out to the streaming marketplace.

The series extends Skydance TV’s relationship with Netflix where the company produces long-running hit comedy Grace and Frankie and also produced Altered Carbon.

Barbaro will next appear on film in Top Gun: Maverick.

Her previous credits include appearances on Stumptown, Splitting Up Together, The Good Cop, Lethal Weapon and Unreal.

Jai Rodriguez to Host This Weekend’s Daytime Emmy Awards Livestream Honoring Digital Dramas

The 41-year-old half Puerto Rican actor and former Queer Eye for the Straight Guy talent will host the Daytime Emmy Awards livestream ceremony honoring Digital Dramas this Sunday, while The Real’s Loni Love will host the ceremony for Children’s, Lifestyle & Animation programming next Sunday.

The host announcements were made by The National Academy of Television Arts & SciencesNATAS also said the 41st Sports Emmy Awards will livestream on Tuesday, August 11, at 8:00 pm ET, and the 41st News & Documentary awards will stream in mid-to-late September, followed by the 71st Technology & Engineering Emmys in mid-to-late October.

Two dedicated specials will also debut this fall, one recognizing Lifetime Achievement honorees in Daytime, Sports, News & Documentary and Technology & Engineering programming, and the other recognizing Spanish-Language nominees across the genres.

The new formats were designed to fit the demands of the coronavirus pandemic. 

“These unprecedented circumstances demanded new and exciting ways to recognize the great talents creating Daytime television,” said Adam Sharp, president & CEO of NATAS in a statement.

The Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony honoring Digital Dramas will livestream on Sunday, July 19, 9:00 pm ET. The ceremony for Children’s, Lifestyle & Animation programming will stream on Sunday, July 26, 8 p.m. ET. All events will be viewable on desktop, mobile, and smart TV platforms via TheEmmys.tv.

In addition to being one of the original Queer Eye hosts, Rodriguez has appeared on television in Malibu CountryThe MagiciansGrey’s Anatomy and Grace and Frankie.

Sheen to Star in the Indie Film “Princess of the Row”

The 76-year-old half-Spanish American actor will appear in the independent film Princess of the Row, from writer-director Max Carlson.

The film is set in the streets of Los Angeles’ impoverished Skid Row and follows 12-year-old Alicia Willis who, bouncing around the sometimes abusive foster care system, will stop at nothing to run away and live with her homeless, mentally ill father.

Sheen will play John Austin, Alicia’s kindly yet eccentric foster father. Shawn Austin co-wrote and is producing the coming-of-age pic along with Oddbox Films/Big Boss Creative, with filming slated to begin in July.

Sheen stars in the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, which will debut its third season March 24, and was last seen no the big screen in Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply.

His upcoming slate includes the Joshua Marston-directed evangelical drama Come Sunday and animated film The Boxcar Children: Surprise Island.

The 76-year-old half Spanish American actor will portray famed Pentecostal televangelist Oral Roberts in Come Sunday.

Based on a true story, the film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as a renowned evangelical minister in Tulsa, Oklahoma who stirs up controversy with his revelation that there is no hell.

The film is being directed by Joshua Marston from a script by Marcus Hinchey. The movie is based on a 2005 This American Life radio episode. The film also co-stars Broadway’s Condola Rashad as the minister’s wife.

Sheen will portray the founder of The Oral Roberts University and a mentor who treats Carlton (Ejiofor) like his own son until the young man denounces the existence of hell. Then he must publicly turn against the young pastor.

Sheen, who is one of the country’s leading activists who gives a voice to both political and human rights causes, last starred as a priest in Terrence Malick’s spiritual fable The Vessel from Cuban-American writer/director Julio Quintana. Sheen also had a supporting role in Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply and starred for seven seasons as President Bartlet on The West WingHe also enjoyed a supporting role in Netflix’s Grace and Frankie.

Sheen Cast in Netflix’s Upcoming Comedy Series “Grace and Frankie”

Martin Sheen is returning to series television…

The 73-year-old half-Spanish American actor and West Wing alum has joined the cast of Netflix‘s upcoming comedy series Grace and Frankie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Grace and Frankie stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as the titular characters, who are nemeses until they form an unlikely bond after their husbands announce that they’re in love with each other and plan to get married.

Sheen will portray Robert, the husband of Fonda’s character Grace, who eventually leaves her for another man.

The role of Tomlin’s husband has not been cast.

The single-camera comedy, which is created by Howard J. Morris and Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman, is set to debut in 2015.
