The Weinstein Company Partners with Miranda to Develop “In the Heights” for Film

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway hit is getting the Weinstein treatment…

The Weinstein Company is developing a film adaptation of the 36-year-old Puerto Rican actor, composer, rapper and writer’s musical In the Heights, which won the 2008 Tony Award for best musical.

Lin-Manuel Miranda In The Heights

Miranda is producing the project, which had been set at Universal Pictures with Kenny Ortega attached to direct and Miranda starring before the studio put it into turnaround in 2011.

Miranda wrote the music and lyrics for the musical and starred in the show’s lead role, earning him a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

In the Heights is set in Washington Heights in New York City and focuses on a bodega owner who’s closing his store and retiring to the Dominican Republic after inheriting his grandmother’s fortune.

“As a kid from Queens, I’ve always loved bringing New York stories to film,” said TWC’s Harvey Weinstein. “‘In the Heights and Lin Manuel brought Washington Heights to Broadway back in 2008 and in the process turned the theater world on its head. The movie musicals of the 1950s were incredible, but In The Heights will revolutionize what movie audiences expect from the genre.”

Miranda is performing on Broadway in the lead role of Alexander Hamilton in the hit musical Hamilton, for which he wrote the book, music and lyrics.

Hamilton was nominated for a record 16 Tony Awards, with the winners to be announced on June 12.

Vergara Ties the Knot with Joe Manganiello in Dream Wedding

Sofia Vergara is officially Mrs. Manganiello.

The Colombian actress married actor Joe Manganiello at a Florida tourist resort on Sunday night, while surrounded by friends and family.

Sofia Vergara & Joe Manganiello Wedding

The wedding ceremony started at 7:00 p.m. and was attended by celebrities, including Reese Witherspoon, Channing Tatum, Roselyn Sanchez, Arnold Schwarzenegger and producer Harvey Weinstein, according to CBS News. Vergara walked down the aisle, dressed in a white long-trail gown and donning Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, hand in hand with son Manolo, while Manganiello wore a John Varvatos tuxedo for his big day. Vergara, the best paid U.S. television actress according to Forbes magazine, shared photos from the event on Instagram, which showed the décor by celebrity floral artist and artistic director of the Four Seasons George V Hotel, Jeff Leatham.

We have all heard that it is bad luck for the groom to see bride in her wedding dress before the ceremony. The truth is that a longer standing tradition says that it is bad luck for the bride to wear the complete wedding outfit before the day that she takes her wedding vows. That is why you almost never see a bride trying on a wedding dress with her wedding shoes, veil and so on. A female college friend of mine knew a young girl who decided to ignore that tradition and display her complete wedding outfit to her bridal party for the purpose of having “some photos taken with her friends” the night before her wedding. So she said, most of those present think she was just showing off. The dress seemed unusually tight to some who saw the bride all decked out that night and soon gossiping tongues spread the news quickly. The next day the groom decided not to show up for the ceremony after my college friend said that she called and told him that his bride looked “fat or pregnant” when she saw the bride in her outfit the night before. My friend was not being mean, but she felt sorry for the groom who had gone out of his way to keep his bride pure (she had claimed to be a virgin) by abstaining from sex with her. He had never seen her in the wedding dress, but even his sister said that she noticed an unusually rapid weight gain in the bride who was not one known to fluctuate in her weight or overeat. There could have been a lot more to the story than that, but I have no doubt that the catalyst for the groom’s cancellation was that phone call from my friend and the call would never had been made if the bride had not been showing off and scoffing at a long-standing tradition. Smoky Mountains wedding locations At the Enchanted Valley Barn, not a day goes by where we are not reminded of our heritage. To safeguard privacy, organizers requested guests to leave their personal cameras and cell phones in a secure area at the venue entrance. The wedding was the culmination of celebrations over the weekend, which included a pool party at the hotel and a “rehearsal dinner” at Cafe Bouluden in The Brazilian Court Hotel. Post-dinner, the bride, the groom and the guests returned to The Breakers for a party, which went on until two in the morning where Manganiello sang Guns ‘N Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” much to the surprise of the new bride, according to People magazine.

The marriage is Manganiello’s first, and Vergara’s second. She was previously married to Jose Luis Gonzalez from whom she has a son, 23-year-old Manolo.

Vergara and Manganiello officially began dating in July 2014 and got engaged in Hawaii six months later in December.

Amenábar to Direct Ethan Hawke in the Thriller “Regression” for The Weinstein Company

Alejandro Amenábar is partnering with The Weinstein Company-Dimension for his next project…

The film studio has acquired the U.S rights to Regression, an elevated suspense thriller to be directed by the 41-year-old Spanish-Chilean Oscar-winning director.

Alejandro Amenábar

Amenábar returns to the English language realm with the film, starring Ethan Hawke, which is set in 1980 in a small Minnesota town where a man is arrested for sexually abusing his daughter. He admits his guilt despite having no memory of it. With the help of a psychologist, he relives the memories and implicates a police officer as his partner in crime. The man’s estranged son and other townspeople are also suddenly able to relive suppressed memories of horrific abuse. At the same time, the local news reports blame a Satanic cult that has been performing rituals of orgies, assault, killing animals and even babies, for years. The officers are alarmed when similar reports come in from all around the country—they believe they’ve uncovered a national and possibly supernatural conspiracy. Is the abuse real, or something else?

This marks a re-team between Amenábar, who won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2004 for the Javier Bardem-starrer The Sea Inside, and Harvey and Bob Weinstein, who last worked with the helmer at Miramax on The Others, the sleeper hit thriller that starred Nicole Kidman and grossed $97 million U.S. and $210 million worldwide in 2001.

Amenábar, a nine-time Goya Award winner, has a resume that includes Tesis, Abre los ojos and Agora.
