Jacob Elordi Starring in the Prime Video Australia Original Series “The Narrow Road to the Deep North”

Jacob Elordi is hitting the road north

The 26-year-old half-Spanish Australian actor is starring opposite Ciarán Hinds and Odessa Young in the Prime Video Australia Original series The Narrow Road to the Deep North, a television adaptation of Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name.

Also rounding out the cast are Olivia DeJonge, Heather Mitchell, Thomas Weatherall, Show Kasamatsu, Charles An and Simon Baker.

Elordi returned home to Australia to play the lead role of the younger Dorrigo Evans in the 1940s. Young will portray Amy Mulvaney, DeJonge will portray younger Ella and Baker will portray Keith. Fast-forward to the 1980s, the series will feature Hinds as the older Dorrigo and Mitchell as older Ella. Weatherall will portray Frank Gardiner, Kasamatsu will portray Major Nakamura and Charles An will portray The Goanna.

Set against the shadows of World War IIThe Narrow Road to the Deep North tells the epic story of Lieutenant Dorrigo Evans, and how his all-too-brief love affair with Amy Mulvaney shaped his life. The story is told over multiple time periods, as we journey from Evans’ childhood to his experience as a prisoner-of-war on the Thailand-Burma Railway as a young man, and later in life, as a respected surgeon and Australian war hero.

According to a release, the series is a love story to sustain audiences through the darkest of times, an intimate character study illustrating the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity, and an investigation into a marriage and an unforgettable love affair.

The series will launch on Prime Video in Australia, New Zealand and Canada and will be distributed internationally by Sony Pictures Television. It is produced by Curio Pictures in Australia. Working with Curio Pictures’ executive producers Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner.

The Narrow Road to the Deep North is adapted by writer Shaun Grant and will be directed by Justin Kurzel, both of whom are also executive producers. Alexandra Taussig is producing.

The Latina actress has been cast opposite Branden Cook and Lincoln Younes in The Lost Boys, the CW’s retooled pilot from Heather Mitchell and Rob Thomas based on the 1987 Warner Bros. movie.

In The Lost Boys, written by Mitchell and Thomas and directed by Marcos Siega, a mother and her Gen Zsons, one played by Cook, move to the seaside town where she grew up, they discover there’s a sinister reason the local cool kids sleep all day, party all night, never grow up and never get old. Family bonds are tested as the brothers find themselves on opposite sides of a mythological struggle. Based on the 1987 cult classic that revolutionized how we think about vampires.

Cook plays Garrett, the older of the two brothers who have moved with their mom to the North Carolina seaside community. He’s a version of the Michael character in the movie, which was played by Jason Patric.

Younes plays Benjamin, the charismatic leader of the gang of vampires in the town. It is a version of the David character played in the movie by Kiefer Sutherland.

Cruz plays Elsie, a version of Jami Gertz’s character Star in the movie, who sparks a little romance with the new guy in town, Garrett.

Cruz is best known for playing a young Lizzy Kaplan on the second season of Hulu’s Castle Rock. She’s in production on HBO Max’s Mare of Easttown with Kate Winslet

Fox Developing Latino-Themed Romeo and Juliet Project

It looks like William Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet is getting a Latin makeover…

Fox, showing commitment to getting a Latino drama series off the ground, is looking at an untitled project written/executive produced by Mexican writer-producer  Eduardo Cisneros (Instructions Not Included) and Jason Shuman (Role Models, Lone Survivor).

From 20th Century Fox Television, it’s described as a modern Romeo and Juliet tale set against the backdrop of Los Angeles’ new Latino wealth in the music and radio industry.

Fox recently took a stab at a  Latino-themed Urban Cowboy remake, which did not go beyond the pilot stage.

Romeo and Juliet has been a popular classic concept for the networks to exploit. This development season, ABC has Still Star-Crossed, a Romeo And Juliet sequel drama based on a book from Scandal co-executive producer Heather Mitchell.
