George Lopez to Take Part in Comedy Fundraiser for Feeding America

The 59-year-old Mexican American comedian and actor will take part in the Byron Allen-driven comedy fundraiser for Feeding America.

The fundraiser will be held on Sunday, May 10 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm ET, with NBCbroadcasting the show. 

In addition to Lopez, the program will include participation from Sebastian Maniscalco, JB SmooveJim GaffiganJudd Apatow, Jack BlackCedric the EntertainerWhitney CummingsJim GaffiganBrad GarrettWhoopi GoldbergKevin James, Sarah Silverman and Kenan Thompson.

Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group television production division Entertainment Studios and Funny or Die will be producing the live-streaming comedy event.

Additionally, the event will livestream on the Allen Media Group TV networks Comedy.TV and The Weather Channel, as well as on the free streaming service app Local Now.

Pre-recorded comedy segments will be featured during the three-hour event. Committed to appearing are Hart, Sandler, Murphy, Rock, etc.

Allen, founder/chair/CEO of Entertainment Studios/Allen Media Group, said the benefit will help hungry people who are straining the resources of the nation’s food banks during the pandemic shutdown. 

“Laughter is often the best medicine, and we are extremely motivated to bring attention to issues of food insecurity, and to assist in providing meals to families across the country who are financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said Wednesday.

“The coronavirus pandemic and the economic downturn it has created is shining a light on the fragile nature of people’s household budgets,” said Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America, a nationwide network of 200 food banks. “Millions more of our neighbors are turning to food banks for help and we cannot thank Byron Allen and Allen Media Group enough for their support to raise funds and awareness of our work.”

MTV’s television adaptation of the horror movie franchise, Scream, starring the 17-year-old half-Cuban American actress-singer, is set to premiere this summer, and the network has released the first official trailer

Thorne, who portrays Nina Patterson in the Scream series, announced the premiere date and introduced the first look preview Sunday at the MTV Movie Awards.

Scream will follow the aftermath of a cyber-bullying incident that results in a shocking murder. The brutal event brings back memories from of past killing spree that has haunted some, possibly inspires a new killer and brings together a new group of teens.

The television adaptation also stars Willa Fitzgerald, Amy Forsyth, John Karna, Carlson Young and Amadeus SerafiniJamie Travis directed the pilot. Wes Craven, who directed the original flicks, serves as an executive producer.

The original 1996 feature was written by Kevin Williamson and featured Neve Campell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, Jamie Kennedy, Matthew Lillard and Drew Barrymore.

The series will premiere on MTV on June 30.

Cheech Marin to Perform at Insane Clown Posse’s Festival

The 66-year-old Mexican American actor/comedian—who gained acclaim as part of the Grammy-winning comedy duo Cheech & Chong during the 1970s and early 1980s—will reunite with his comedy partner Tommy Chong to perform at Insane Clown Posse‘s 13th annual Gathering of the Juggalos, taking place August 8-12 at Cave-In-Rock, Illinois.

The Detroit rap duo announced the festival lineup with a highly produced 23-minute video on its official web site, portraying the festival as a Walking Dead-style refuge from a zombie infestation that’s taken over the world.

The clip highlights not only the musical performers, but also additional attractions like an expanded comedy tent — headlined by Cheech & Chong with Ralphie May, Jamie Kennedy, Bobcat Goldthwait and others.

In addition to his comedy work with Chong, Marin starred on television as Don Johnson‘s partner on Nash Bridges and as Hurley’s dad on Lost. He has also voiced characters in several Disney productions, including The Lion King, Cars, Cars 2 and Beverly Hills Chihuahua.
