Alice Braga to Star in Sci-Fi Series “Dark Matter”

It’s a Dark time for Alice Braga.

The 39-year-old Brazilian actress and producer will star opposite Jimmi Simpson and Joel Edgerton in Dark Matter, an adaptation of Blake Crouch’s acclaimed sci-fi novel, at Apple TV+.

Jennifer Connelly also stars in the series from Sony Television and executive produced by Edgerton.

Written and showrun by Crouch, the nine-episode series will follow Jason Dessen, (Edgerton) a physicist, professor, and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the multiverse of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of mind-bending realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.

Braga will play Amanda, a psychiatrist. Simpson portrays Ryan, a brilliant neuroscientist and friend of Jason’s (Edgerton).

Dark Matter is executive produced by Matt Tolmach and David Manpearl for Matt Tolmach Productions.

Crouch will write and serve as showrunner and executive producer on the series, and Jakob Verbruggen is set to direct the first three episodes.

Braga is known for her starring role as Teresa Mendoza in USA’s Queen of the South. On the film side she was most recently seen in The Suicide Squad, and soon will be seen in FX’s upcoming limited series Retreat.

Morena Baccarin to Star in CBS All Access’ Second Season of “The Twilight Zone”

The 40-year-old Brazilian actress has been cast in CBS All Access’ anthology series The Twilight Zone’s second season.

Baccarin joins a cast that includes Billy PorterJenna ElfmanGillian Jacobsand Chris Meloni.

Style blogger Tavi Gevinson also appears with Colman DomingoEthan Embry, Tony HaleAbbie HernSophia Macy, Joel McHaleJimmi Simpson and Daniel Sunjata.

Separately, Jordan Peele, who executive produces and narrates the show, will write an episode for the second season. 

The Get Out writer and director will write the episode Downtime, which features Baccarin, Domingo and Hale.

The CBS All Access series is a modern reimagining of Rod Serling’s original, which aired from 1959-64 on CBS. The first season featured actors including Ike BarinholtzJohn ChoGinnifer GoodwinGreg KinnearKumail NanjianiChris O’DowdSeth RogenAdam Scott and Alison Tolman.

Myriad Pictures Acquires Rights to Molina’s “Emanuel And The Truth About Fishes”

Alfred Molina will be spreading the truth about fishes around the world…

Myriad Pictures has acquired the international distribution rights to the Emanuel And The Truth About Fishes, which stars the 59-year-old half-Spanish actor and Jessica Biel.

Written and directed by Francesca Gregorini, the film centers on Emanuel (portrayed by Kaya Scodelario), an acerbic but sensitive teen who lives with her father and stepmother. When Linda (Biel), a young and hip mother, moves in next door, Emanuel becomes intrigued by Linda’s striking resemblance to her late mother, who died giving birth to Emanuel. Emanuel begins to babysit for Linda’s newborn daughter, but as Emanuel and Linda spend more time together, they develop a bond that becomes deeply entwined in a surprising secret Linda harbors

Emanuel And The Truth About Fishes, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, also stars Aneurin Barnard, Jimmi Simpson and Frances O’Connor.

Myriad will screen the film for international buyers at during this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Roday to Direct the Dark Comedy “Gravy”

James Roday is psyched about his next project…

The 37-year-old Mexican-American actor, who currently stars on USA’s Psych, will direct the dark comedy film Gravy.

Co-written by Roday and Todd Harthan, the film follows a group that descends on a Mexican cantina on Halloween with a taste for more than what is on the menu.

This isn’t Roday’s first time behind the camera. As well as starring on Psych, Roday has written and directed a number of episodes of for the long-running USA series.

Gravy, which has just started shooting in LA this week, stars Sarah Silverman, Michael Weston, Jimmi Simpson, Sutton Foster, Gabourey Sidibe, Paul Rodriguez, Gabriel Luna and Ethan Sandler.
