Netflix Releases Official Trailer for “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio”

Here’s your first look at Guillermo del Toro’s take on the classic Pinocchio tale.

Netflix has released the official trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio from the 58-year-old Mexican Oscar-winning filmmaker ahead of its December 9 premiere on the streaming service after its run in select theaters.

Guillermo del Toro, Pinocchio,The del Toro imprint is fully evident in the trailer for the film, which takes the classic Carlo Collodi fairy tale and sets it in Mussolini’s Italy.

The stop-motion animation, which he co-directed with Mark Gustafson, lends itself to del Toro’s eye for detail, from its storyline tweaks, creatures with hints of Pan’s Labyrinth and carnival scenes that would have felt at home in Nightmare Alley.

It all serves the plot, which finds lonely Geppetto, a broken man after the death of his son, carving a new boy out of wood who is suddenly brought to life. David Bradley voices Geppetto, and Gregory Mann is Pinocchio. Ewan McGregor handled narrator duties as the voice of Jiminy Cricket.

The voice cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson and Burn Gorman.

Patrick McHale penned the screenplay for the film.

Pinocchio has been on the festival circuit since world premiering last month at the BFI London Film.

Guillermo del Toro’s latest project will have its world premiere in London…

The 57-year-old Mexican Oscar-winning filmmaker and author’s Pinocchio will have its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.

The film will debut in the Royal Festival Hall at the Southbank Centre during the festival, which takes place October 5-15, 2022.

The stop-motion film was directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson and is from a screenplay by the Mexican filmmaker and Patrick McHale.

The film’s voice cast includes Ewan McGregor as Cricket, David Bradley as Geppetto and Gregory Mann as Pinocchio. Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman and Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton also star.

The film’s music will be provided by the Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat, who has also written the score. Netflix is set to release the film theatrically in November before making it available for streaming in December.

Guillermo del Toro’s latest project is a nose above the rest…

Netflix has released the trailer for the 57-year-old Mexican Oscar-winning filmmaker’s Pinocchio, his take on the classic fairy tale about a wooden marionette brought to life to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver named Geppetto.

The film’s voice cast includes Ewan McGregor as Cricket, David Bradley as Geppetto and Gregory Mann as Pinocchio.

Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton also star.

Principal photography on the film began in 2019 at ShadowMachine’s studio in Portland, OR, and production remained uninterrupted during the pandemic.

del Toro co-wrote the script with Patrick McHale. And the film’s music will be provided by Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat, who has also written the score.

The animation remake is the first of two forthcoming collaborations between del Toro and Netflix.

The second, titled Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, is an anthology horror series featuring eight new tales — including two original works by del Toro — brought to life by a team of writers and directors personally chosen by the Nightmare Alley filmmaker. Additional episode directors will include Ana Lily Amirpour, Catherine Hardwicke, Guillermo Navarro, David Prior, and Keith Thomas.

Guillermo del Toro is keeping his latest project right under your nose…

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for the 57-year-old Oscar-winning filmmaker’s stop-motion musical update of the classic Pinocchio tale.

Guillermo del Toro, Pinocchio,Carlo Collodi’s classic charts the story of a wooden marionette who is magically brought to life in order to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver named Geppetto.

Directed by del Toro alongside Mark Gustafson, the film will chart the mischievous and disobedient adventures of Pinocchio in his pursuit of a place in the world.

The voice cast includes Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman and newcomer Gregory Mann as Pinocchio.

del Toro co-wrote the screenplay with Patrick McHale.

Netflix will release the movie in December 2022.

Sebastián Lelio’s “Gloria Bell,” the English Reimaging of His Hit “Gloria,” Opens Big in Limited Release

Sebastián Leliois making waves with his own English-language adaptation of his hit Spanish film…

The 45-year-old Chilean director’s Gloria Bell handily took the best specialty debut mantle over the weekend with one of the highest opening weekend per-theater averages for a limited release title this year.

The A24 feature starring Julianne Moore, John Turturro and Michael Ceragrossed an estimated $154,775 in three-days, averaging $30,955. 

Gloria Bellis the re-imagined English-language and L.A.-set drama of a free-spirit, based on Lelio’s 2014 title, Gloria, set in Santiago, Chile, which took in over $2.1M via Roadside Attractions stateside.

Gloria Bell’s nearly $31K opening PTA outpaced Lelio’s 2014 original, Gloria, which took in over $56K in its opening weekend in January of that year, averaging $18,818. That film, however, was set in Chile, was in Spanish and starred a veteran Chilean actor, Paulina García, who is not well known to North American audiences. The film proved to have legs though with its $2.1M North American cume, which in part made it attractive for a re-make in English starring a well known actor here. 

Lelio adapted the story into English and then went on to direct his other projects, including Oscar-winning A Fantastic Woman ($2.02M cume) and Disobedience starringRachel Weiszand Rachel McAdams. That film, released by Bleecker Streetlast April, continues to be the filmmaker’s North American benchmark with a $237K opening weekend in five theaters ($47,479 PTA). It went on to cume over $3.49M on this continent.

Lelio and Moore reconnected after the director completed Disobedience. “She finished her other projects and we had a window in 2017,” said Lelio earlier in the week. “We put financing together very quickly and built a ‘family’ around Julianne including John Turturro and Michael Cera. I’ve always loved John Turturro’s work.” 

A24 reported “enthusiastic sellouts” for Gloria Bell in New York and L.A. throughout the weekend. The company will roll the title into top markets this week ahead of a nationwide expansion set for March 22.

Cabrera to Star in Michael Bay’s “Transformers: The Last Knight”

Santiago Cabrera is ready to transform his career…

The 38-year-old Venezuelan-born Chilean actor is starring in Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth installment in the Transformers franchise.

Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and Stanley Tucci are set to reprise their roles as Cade Yaeger, William Lennox, Robert Epps and Joshua Joyce respectively in the action flick.

Other cast members include Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Isabela Moner, Jerrod Carmichael, John Turturro and John Goodman.

Written by Art Marcum, Matt Halloway and Ken Nolan, the movie follows Optimus Prime who finds his home planet, Cybertron, now a dead planet. Thinking that he’s responsible for its demise, he finds a way to bring the planet back to life. However, in order to do so he needs to find an artifact on Earth.

Cabrera’s previous credits include appearances on The Mindy Project, Covert Affairs, Merlin, Dexter, The Musketeers and Heroes.

Transformers: The Last Knight is coming to U.S. theaters on June 23, 2017.

Vazquez’s “Rob the Mob” to Premiere at the Miami International Film Festival

Yul Vazquez is preparing to rob the mob in Miami…

The Cuban American actor’s latest film, Rob the Mob, will have its world premiere at the Miami International Film Festival in March.

Directed by Raymond De Felitta and starring Andy Garcia, the film also stars Michael Pitt, Ray Romano, Burt Young, Griffin Dunne, Frank Whaley, Cathy Moriarty, Aida Turturro and Nina Arianda.

Rob the Mob, which centers on a couple that targets the Mafia for heists and stumbles upon something big at an underground club, is one of nearly 100 films set to be screened at the Miami International Film Festival.

The North American premiere of the Shirley MacLaine–Christopher Plummer pairing Elsa & Fred will take place at the 10-day event, which runs March 7-16.

Directed by Michael Radford, the film is a remake of the 2008 Argentine/Spanish film of the same name. Also in the cast are Marcia Gay Harden, George Segal, Chris Noth, James Brolin, Wendell Pierce, Jaime Camil and Osvaldo Rios.

In total, 92 feature films and 28 shorts representing 38 countries will premiere at this year’s festival, which marks its 31st edition.

“The programming team believes the selection of films showcased in the festival this year is a reflection of our passion for film, and we hope that it will strengthen our community’s love and appreciation for the art of filmmaking,” MIFF executive director Jaie Laplante said.

The festival will present actor-director John Turturro with its Career Achievement Tribute. Turturro will present his latest film, the Woody Allen starrer Fading Gigolo. The film, which debuted at the Toronto Film Festival, also stars Sharon Stone and Sofia Vergara.

Sofia Vergara will be setting tongues wagging in theaters…

The 41-year-old Colombian actress is starring in the left-field comedy Fading Gigolo, a film that recently saw its trailer released.

Written and directed by John Turturro, the film stars Woody Allen as a bookseller-turned-pimp to Turturro’s unlikely Don Juan.

The film was just added to the lineup at next month’s Toronto Film Festival.

Vergara portrays Selima in the film, which also stars Sharon Stone and Vanessa Paradis.

Vergara Dons Black Lingerie on the Set of “Fading Gigolo”

Sofia Vergara isn’t afraid to bust out on the set of her next project…

The 40-year-old Colombian actress has been caught in the act of wearing oh-so-revealing black lingerie on the set of her new film with Sharon Stone, Fading Gigolo.

Vergara, who recently stripped down for artist Domingo Zapata, demonstrates that her ample assets are certainly age-defying as she portrays a wealthy woman, bored in her marriage.

According to the U.K.’s Daily Mail, she engages in a three-way relationship with Stone’s character, a dermatologist, and a male escort played by John Turturro. Playing cash-strapped bookstore owner-turned pimp to Turturro in the film is Woody Allen.

The comedy, which also stars Liev Schreiber, Vanessa Paradis and Jill Scott, is slated for release in 2013.

Vergara to Star in Fading Gigolo

Sofia Vergara has landed a pimped up role…

The 40-year-old Colombian actress and Modern Family star, who allegedly got engaged to boyfriend Nick Loeb last week, will reportedly star in Fading Gigolo, according to Deadline.com.

Written and directed by actor John Turturro, the film revolves around a book store owner with a money-making scheme who convinces his friend (played by Turturro) that a fortune can be made by becoming a professional gigolo.

In addition to Vergara and Turturro, the film stars  Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Vanessa Paradis and Liev Schreiber.

No word yet on what role Vergara will play in the movie.

In addition to Fading Gigolo, Vergara has signed on to star in two other high-profile projects: The Smurfs sequel and Machete Kills with Jessica Alba and Danny Trejo.

Filming on Fading Gigolo is expected to begin in October.
