Miguel to Perform During ‘Black Power Live’ Digital Benefit

The 34-year-old half-Mexican American R&B singer and Grammy winner will perform during Black Power Live, a digital benefit taking place on Saturday, June 27th, on Twitch.

The event will be hosted by Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors and feature a mix of musical performances and conversations with black artists and organizers, including the half-black “Adore You” singer, Doja Cat and Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes

Black Power Live is meant to be “a celebration of the incredible work done by organizers and activists around the world and will be a chance to reflect, regroup and talk about next steps.”

The musical lineup for Black Power Live will feature jazz star Terrace Martin debuting a new piece, “Racism on Trial,” featuring Kamasi WashingtonDenzel CurryRobert GlasperAlex Isley and others. 

Additional performers include Ne-YoAloe BlaccHO99O9 with Travis BarkerVagabonJessie ReyezSerpentwithfeet and Twin Shadow.

Along with the music, Black Power Live will feature interviews and discussions with a mix of artists and activists including Parkland survivor Emma GonzálezDear White People creator Justin Simien and author and filmmaker Dream Hampton.

The event will begin at 5:00 pm PT/8:00 pm ET and end at 12:00 am PT/3:00 am ET. 

Money raised will benefit the Crenshaw Dairy MartTrap HealsTransgender Law CenterSankofa and Black Men Build.

The initial lineup for the 2017 Northside Festival will feature more than 300 artists taking the stage in the heart of North Williamsburg, Brooklyn, including the 31-year-old half-Mexican American singer.

With more headliners to be announced soon, the ninth edition of the event — taking place June 7 to 11 — will feature acts performing on outdoor stages and in indie clubs throughout Brooklyn, with sets from Craig Leon & Martin Rev, Downtown Boys, Elvis Depressedly, Elysia Crampton, The Explosion, Foodman, Girlpool, Happyness, Hoops, The Hotelier, Jay Som, Kamasi Washington, Lætitia Sadier, Lower Dens (performing songs from ABBA‘s Gold: Greatest Hits) and many more.

“This year, in addition to uncovering the latest bands, our talks will cover a wide range of topics across technology, entertainment, marketing, design, music and journalism,” said Northside VP of Experience Brian Quinn in a statement announcing the initial roster. “It’s always incredible to see how entrepreneurs, creators, CEOs, brands and startups all come together both to learn from each other and to understand what’s next in the ways that technology is impacting our lives and our world.”

The Northside Innovation portion of the event (June 7 to 9) will host 10,000 attendees for three days of conference keynote talks, interviews, panels, masterclasses, pitch competitions, immersive VR activations and evening parties focused on exploring how technology is changing the impacting our professional and personal lives. Among the initial speaker line-up for Innovation is: Saturday Night Live star Sasheer Zamata, FADER president/publisher Andy Cohn, Vice Impact Publisher Katherine Keating and SuicideGirls founder Missy Suicide.
