Karla Souza Wins International Emmy for Performance in Mexican TV Movie “La Caída”

Karla Souza is celebrating an international recognition…

The 2023 International Emmys have been announced, with the 37-year-old Mexican actress earning an award.

Souza picked up the Best Performance by an Actress award for her starring role in Mexican series La Caída, which took home the TV Movie/Mini-Series award.

The Non-Scripted Entertainment award went to Brazil’s A Ponte – The Bridge Brasil.

The special Founders Emmy was presented to Jesse Armstrong, creator of the hit HBO show Succession by Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content.

“In a tumultuous time, television again proves to be a common denominator for people around the world,” said International Academy President & CEO Bruce L. Paisner. “The International Academy is proud to shine a global spotlight on these outstanding programs and performances.”

The Directorate Award was presented to Ektaa R. Kapoor, Co-Founder of Balaji Telefilms by Dr. Deepak Chopra.

Daniella Pineda Joins Cast of ABC’s “Home Economics” in Recurring Role

Daniella Pineda is heading home…

The 49-year-old Cuban American actor has joined the cast of ABC’s Home Economics in a recurring guest star role for Season 3.

Home Economics, inspired by series co-creator Michael Colton’s real-life experiences, documents the uncomfortable yet heartwarming relationships of three siblings in very different situations: one in the ultra-rich, one in the middle class, and one scraping by.

Pineda will play the role of Nikki, a woman Connor (Jimmy Tatro) meets and tries to impress.

The series stars Topher Grace, Caitlin McGee, Karla Souza, Sasheer Zamata, Shiloh Bearman, Jordyn Curet, Chloe Jo Rountree and JeCobi Swain.

The comedy series currently airs on Wednesday nights at 9:30 pm.

Home Economics is produced by Lionsgate and ABC Signature.

Pineda most recently starred in Jurassic World: Dominion returning to the role of Zia Rodriguez from the 2018 film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom where she co-starred opposite Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. In 2023, she will star in the feature film comedy In Town, which she also executive produced. Additionally, she will work opposite Gerard Butler and Mike Colter in the upcoming film, Plane, for Lionsgate and Di Bonaventura Pictures.

Her television credits include Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop, AMC’s Tales of the Walking Dead, and TBS’ The Detour. Pineda is repped by UTA, Kirsten Ames Management, and attorney Isaac Dunham.

Eddie Cibrian to Appear on Season 3 of ABC’s “Home Economics”

Eddie Cibrian is building up his acting resume…

The 49-year-old Cuban American actor has joined the cast of ABC’s Home Economics in a recurring guest star role for Season 3.

Cibrian will portray the character of Santiago, an extremely good-looking contractor who starts working with Marina (Karla Souza).

The series stars Topher Grace, Caitlin McGee, Jimmy Tatro, Souza, Sasheer Zamata, Shiloh Bearman, Jordyn Curet, Chloe Jo Rountree and JeCobi Swain.

The comedy series currently airs on Wednesday nights at 9:30 pm.

Home Economics is produced by Lionsgate and ABC Signature.

Cibrian most recently starred in Netflix’s Country Comfort where he portrayed the character of Beau.

Prior to that, he was a lead in ABC’s Take Two and Fox’s Rosewood.

His other television credits include CBS’ CSI: Miami, ABC’s Ugly Betty and NBC’s Third Watch.

Emeraude Toubia to Star in Gloria Calderón Kellett’s Rom-Com Series “With Love”

Emeraude Toubia will be sharing the love…

The 32-year-old half-Mexican actress has been cast as the female lead in With Love, Amazon’s one-hour romantic comedy series from Gloria Calderón Kellett, her GloNation Studios and Amazon Studios.

Created and written by Calderón Kellett, With Love follows the Diaz siblings, Lily (Toubia) and Jorge, who are on a mission to find love and purpose. The Diaz siblings cross paths with seemingly unrelated residents during some of the most heightened days of the year — the holidays.

Toubia’s Lily is a hopeless romantic with a tightknit Mexican-American family who is on a mission to find real love after breaking up with her perfect-on-paper boyfriend.

The series, which falls under One Day at a Time creator Calderón Kellett’s overall deal with Amazon, had been fast-tracked since the pitch stage with the goal to launch it during the 2021 holiday season.

All episodes will be written and executive produced by Calderón Kellet. The pilot episode will be directed and executive produced by Meera Menon. With Love is produced by Kellett’s production company, GloNation and Amazon Studios.

Toubia, best known for her series-regular role as Isabelle Lightwood on Freeform’s Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, is set to star next alongside Gina Rodriguez and Karla Souza in the road-trip comedy feature Like It Used to Be.

She will serve as co-executive producer on Lifetime Christmas movie Holiday in Santa Fe.

Emeraude Toubia to Star in the Road Trip Comedy “Like It Used to Be”

The 31-year-old half-Mexican Canadian actress has been cast in Like It Used to Be, joining previously announced fellow Latina stars Gina Rodriguez and Karla Souza.

Bernardo Cubria wrote the comedy, which centers on four female best friends. While on a final road trip to Mexico, one of them learns some life-changing news.

Toubia will play Sofia, a well-to-do Mexican woman with a hippie/designer fashion sense who joins the girls on the road trip.

Jolene Rodriguez of Broken English Productions is producing the film alongside Rodriguez, via her production company I Can & I Will, and Souza.

Toubia is best known for her role as Isabelle Lightwood on the Freeform series Shadowhunters.

Her other credits include the TV movie Love in the Sun and telenovela Voltea Pa’Que Te Enamores.

Karla Souza to Star in ABC’s Family Comedy Pilot “Home Economics”

Karla Souza is cooking things up…

The 34-year-old Mexican actress will star in ABC’s family comedy pilot Home Economics.

Starring Caitlin McGee and Topher Grace, the series is described as ‘similar to Modern Family’ and revolves around three adult siblings: one in the 1 percent, one in the middle class, and one barely holding on.

The project hails from writers Michael Colton and John Aboud, the Tannenbaum Co., Lionsgate Television and ABC Studios. It was written by

Colton and Aboud and inspired by Colton’s family.

McGee plays the oldest sibling, Sarah, a therapist for at-risk kids, married to a teacher, and they’re often scraping to make ends meet. Of her siblings, she earns the least money, but she does the most socially important work (as she frequently reminds them). She’s a doting mom to her two kids and tries to be a guru to her two brothers, who obviously would be lost without her wisdom.

Grace plays Tom, the middle sibling and middle-class.

Souza will play Marina. A proud first-generation New Yorker whose parents came from Latin America, Marina is a former lawyer married to struggling novelist Tom (Grace). She’s constantly exhausted by caring for her seven-year-old daughter and toddler twin boys. Marina would like to go back to work one day, if only to escape her children. A rule-follower, Marina is often in conflict with her brother-in-law Connor, who never met a corner he didn’t try to cut. She’s pushed to the max and ready to call everyone out on how much easier they have it.

Souza is returning to ABC after starring in How To Get Away With Murder for the first five seasons. She recurred on the sixth and final season while shooting Pablo Larrain’s upcoming limited series El Presidente for Amazon.

After starring in three of the highest grossing films in Mexico (Que Culpa Tiene El Nino, Nosotros Los Nobles and Instructions Not Included), Souza was last seen on the big screen starring in Everybody Loves Somebody for writer/director Catalina Aguilar Mastretta.

Karla Souza to Star in Amazon’s FIFA Gate-Inspired Drama “El Presidente”

The 33-year-old Mexican actress and How to Get Away with Murder star is set to star in Amazon’s FIFA drama El Presidente.

Andrés Parra (Pablo Escobar: El Patrón del Mal) and Paulina Gaitán (Diablo Guardian) also star in the eight-part series, which is produced by Oscar‐winning director Pablo Larrain’s production company Fabula (A Fantastic Woman), Narcosproducer Gaumont and Argentine producer Kapow.

Birdman’sArmando Bowill direct and executive-produce the series, which is inspired by the real-life characters and events behind the 2015 “FIFA Gate” corruption scandal.

The series explores the scandal from the angle of a small‐time Chilean football club president who rises from obscurity to become a key player in a $150M bribery conspiracy. Set against the backdrop of cities across Latin America, the U.S. and Europe, the series explores the sports scandal that rocked the world through the story of Jadue (Parra), a small‐time Chilean football club president who rose from obscurity to become a key player in a $150M bribery conspiracy at the hand of the infamous president of the Argentine football association, Julio Grondona.

It will air on Amazon’s SVOD service in more than 200 countries and territories.

“El Presidente will show the world, with loads of irony, how the most beloved sport of all is in fact a multimillionaire business run by a ridiculous mob we have never seen before: the Football Mafia,” added Bo.

Souza’s previous credits include Everybody Loves Somebody and 31 días.

ABC Renews Karla Souza’s “How to Get Away With Murder” for a Fifth Season

ABC has given a Season 5 pickup to its legal thriller drama How to Get Away With Murder, starring the 32-year-old actress.

The renewal of the Shondaland drama was fully expected.

HTGAWM is the second longest-running Shondaland series, and it’s well received, earning lead star Viola Davis top awards including an Emmy.

Additionally, while a modest Live+Same Day performer (average 0.94 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.70 million viewers in Season 4, down by 28% and by 20%, respectively, compared to Season 3), it continues to be a big DVR gainer. Its Live+7 tally for Season 4 was 6.4 million viewers and a 2.0 in 18-49, ranking as ABC’s third highest-rated drama in the demo behind Grey’s Anatomy and The Good Doctor.

Starring Davis, Souza, Billy Brown, Jack Falahee, Aja Naomi King, Matt McGorry, Conrad Ricamora, Charlie Weber and Liza Weil, How To Get Away With Murder revolves around the world of Middleton University Professor Annalise Keating (Davis). Murder, deception, fear and guilt bind her to her longtime associates and students. As the group struggles to move on following the death of one of their own, their past continues to haunt them.

How To Get Away With Murder is created and executive produced by Pete Nowalk, who also serves as showrunner.

Souza to Star in “Jacob’s Ladder” Remake

The 30-year-old Mexican actress has landed a role in Jacob’s Ladder, director David M. Rosenthal’s re-imagining of the 1990 thriller.

She’ll play Annie/Angel, a trauma nurse who works with Jacob’s medical crew in Afghanistan.

The LD Entertainment film was scripted by Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorp.

Souza currently serves as a regular on ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder, which returns for Season 3 in the fall, and her latest film ¿Qué Culpa Tiene el Niño? opened at No. 1 in her native Mexico in May.

ABC has given a series pickup to the legal thriller How to Get Away with Murder, featuring the 29-year-old Mexican actress in a series regular role.

Executive produced by Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes, the series Viola Davis as the brilliant, charismatic and seductive Professor Annalise Keating, who gets entangled with four law students from her class “How to Get Away with Murder.” Little do they know that they’ll have to apply what they’ve learned to real life, in this masterful, sexy, suspense-driven legal thriller.

In addition to Davis and Souza, who portrays Laurel, How to Get Away with Murder also stars Billy Brown, Alfred Enoch, Jack Falahee, Katie Findlay, Aja Naomi King, Matt McGorry, Charlie Weber and Liza Weil.

Written by executive producer Peter Nowalk, the pilot was directed by Michael Offer and produced by ABC Studios.
