Netflix Releases Trailer for Edgar Ramirez’s Limited Series “Florida Man”

Netflix has released the trailer for its limited series Florida Man, starring the 45-year-old Venezuelan actor.

In Florida Man, created by Donald Todd, when a struggling ex-cop (Ramírez) is forced to return to his home state of Florida to find a Philly mobster’s runaway girlfriend, what should be a quick gig becomes a spiraling journey into buried family secrets and an increasingly futile attempt to do the right thing in a place where so much is wrong.

Edgar Ramirez, Florida ManThe series is described as a wild odyssey into a sunny place for shady people in the spirit of Body Heat and Elmore Leonard’s Out of Sight.

The 7-episode project also stars Miami native Otmara Marrero, Anthony LaPaglia, Abbey Lee, Lex Scott Davis, Emory Cohen, Clark Gregg, Isaiah Johnson, Paul Schneider and Lauren Buglioli.

Todd serves as creator, showrunner, and executive producer of Florida Man. Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan executive produce for Aggregate under their Netflix first-look deal.

Otmara Marrero is headed to The Sunshine State…

The 32-year-old Cuban American actress will star opposite Edgar Ramirez in Netflix’s eight-episode series Florida Man.

Marrero joins a roster of new cast additions that includes Anthony LaPaglia, Abbey Lee, Lex Scott Davis and Emory Cohen as series regulars, with Clark Gregg joining in a recurring role in the hourlong series from veteran television writer producer Donald Todd and Jason Bateman & Michael Costigan’s Aggregate Films.

Additionally, Netflix has tapped Miguel Arteta to direct the pilot and second episode and executive produce. This reunites him with Ramírez with whom he worked on the Netflix feature Yes Day.

Rounding out directors for the season are Julian Farino (eps 3/4), Haifaa Al Mansour (eps 5/6) and Kevin Bray (eps 7/8).

Marrero is Patsy, Mike’s sister, living in Orlando, is relentlessly upbeat, churchgoing, and bravely soldiering on in the life she made too early with husband Deacon and daughter Tyler.

Marrero’s credits include comedy series Connecting and the role of Izzy Morales on StartUp.

Esai Morales to Star in Sony Pictures’ “Superfly” Remake

Esai Morales’ career is soaring to new heights…

The 55-year-old Puerto Rican actor will star in the Director X-helmed Superfly remake from Sony Pictures, which will debut in theaters June 15.

Morales will portray play Adalberto.

The Alex Tse-penned script is based on the 1972 original blaxploitation crime drama, which followed an African American cocaine dealer who tries to secure one more deal before getting out of the business.

Morales joins a cast that includes Trevor Jackson, Jason Mitchell, Lex Scott Davis, Andrea Londo, Jacob Ming-Trent, Omar Chapparo, and Allen Maldonado.

Joel Silver is producing the film with rap star Future, who is also putting together the film’s soundtrack.

Morales, who currently stars on ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder, rose to acclaim in the Richie Valens biopic La Bamba. He’s also appeared in PBS’ American Family, Showtime’s Resurrection Blvd., NYPD Blue and Caprica.

Allen Maldonado to Star in Sony’s “Superfly” Remake

The 34-year-old part-Puerto Rican actor will star as Litty in Sony’s Superfly remake, which has Director X at the helm.

Alex Tse will pen the screenplay based on the original Gordon Parks Jr.-directed blaxploitation crime drama, which follows an African American cocaine dealer who tries to secure one more deal before getting out of the business.

Lex Scott Davis, Andrea Londo, Jacob Ming-Trent, and Omar Chapparo will co-star.

The film is slated to open in theaters on June 15.

Maldonado, who recurs on ABC’s Black-ish, co-stars opposite Tracy Morgan and Tiffany Haddish on TBS’ Jordan Peele-created comedy series, The Last O.G, which premieres in April.

Luna Lauren Vélez to Star in the Latest Installment of “The Purge” Film Series

Luna Lauren Vélez is feeling the urge to purge…

The 52-year-old Puerto Rican actress has been cast in the fourth installment of The Purge film series from Blumhouse Productions, Universal Pictures and Platinum Dunes.

Velez, best known for her role as María LaGuerta on Showtime‘s Dexter, joins a cast that includes Mo McRae, Joivan Wade, Steve Harris, Patch Darragh and Mugga.

The group joins previously announced Y’lan Noel and Lex Scott Davis for The Purge 4, which Burning Sands director Gerard McMurray is directing from a script by franchise creator James DeMonaco, who wrote and directed the previous three films.

This chapter will serve as a prequel, focusing on the events that lead up to the inaugural Purge event where, for a 12-hour period, all crime is legal.

DeMonaco is producing with Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form and Sébastien K. Lemercier. The film hits theaters July 4.
