Danny Trejo to Star in the Upcoming Season of The CW’s “The Flash”

The 73-year-old Mexican American actor, who has been a regular staple on television and in film since 1985, will star in The CW’s The Flash in Season 4.

Trejo has have signed on for the key role of Breacher, a feared bounty hunter from Earth-19 and the imposing father of inter-dimensional bounty hunter Gypsy (Jessica Camacho).

His mission is to prevent any inter-dimensional traveler from threatening life on his planet — especially his daughter’s.

Based on the DC Comics characters, the series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, Todd Helbing and Sarah Schechter.

The Flash returns for Season 4 at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 10, on the CW.

Trejo, best known for starring in Machete, has appeared in From Dusk till Dawn, The Grind and Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

Rodriguez to Direct STX Entertainment’s Animated Film “Ugly Dolls”

Things are about to get a little Ugly for Robert Rodriguez

The 48-year-old Mexican American filmmaker will direct STX Entertainment’s animated Ugly Dolls, based on the children’s toys, which the company has long planned as the film to launch its family and animation division.

The movie will be released on May 10, 2019.

The dolls were created by David Horvath via his company Pretty Ugly LLC and have taken off in popularity in Asia.

Rodriguez, now better known for darker films like Sin CityEl MariachiDesperadoMachete and From Dusk Till Dawn, was the creative force behind the big-screen family-friendly Spy Kids franchise 

He’s known for pushing the envelope and trying new techniques whether its the graphic novel-like animation/live-action of Sin City or the digital eye candy of Spy Kids. He also did The Adventures of Sharkboy & Lavagirl in 3D back in 2005.

Rodriguez actually started out as a cartoonist and had a comic strip called Los Hooligans for his high school newspaper, the Daily Texan at St. Anthony’s in Austin. He also drew political cartoons and then started making short films.

Rodriguez, as previously reported, will direct 20th Century Fox’s Escape From New York, the remake of John Carpenter’s 1981 film.

Netflix Acquires Global Streaming Rights to Ramirez’s Thriller “Madre”

Life is but a stream for Daniela Ramírez

Netflix has acquired global streaming rights to Madre, Aaron Burns’ psychological thriller starring the 30-year-old Chilean actress.

Madre, which made its premiere at SXSW, marks Burns’ sophomore turn as feature director.

Madre stars Ramírez as a four-months-pregnant mother of a severely autistic boy (Matías Bassi). After a chance encounter with a gifted Filipino caretaker (Aida Jabolin), the young mother begins to suspect that the new nanny is using the language barrier to turn the boy against her. And then things get sinister.

Burns, who appeared in Roth’s pics The Green Inferno and Keanu Reeves-starrer Knock, Knock, directs Madre from his own original screenplay.

His comedy Blacktino was released in 2011, and before that he worked on visual effects for Grindhouse and Machete, among other credits.

Netflix will begin streaming Madre exclusively by the end of 2017.

Ramirez’s previous credits include La Poseída and Los Archivos del Cardenal.

Trejo to Star in the Indie Film “In Stranger Company”

It’s a Strange(r) time for Danny Trejo

The 72-year-old Mexican American actor has signed on to appear in In Stranger Company, an independent film based on the book The Loyalty Treasures by Dr. Mark Smith.

Directed by Phillip Abraham, who adapted the screenplay along with Patrick Werksma, the feature follows Mia Stone, a young wife, mother, and workaholic entrepreneur. She is faced with an eerie supernatural opportunity to reset her future when a strange encounter with an eccentric man (Trejo) gives her a second chance at saving her company, marriage, family, and future.

Rounding out the cast are Jesse MetcalfeT.C. Stallings, Jaci Velasquez, Jules Willcox, Jaime Gallagher, and Jeff Grace.

Trejo, best known for his role in the Machete film series, can up next be heard in Warner Bros’ animated pic Storks.

Rodriguez to Be Feted by Non-Profit Educational Organization L.A.’s Promise

L.A.’s Promise will honor the 46-year-old Mexican American at its annual gala.

The nonprofit organization aims to improve public schooling in south Los Angeles, with a coverage area that includes two high schools (Manual Arts and West Adams Prep) and one middle school (John Muir). Its initiatives to increase the schools’ performance and involvement in the community are funded in part by the annual gala.

Rodriguez and Universal Filmed Entertainment Group chairman Jeff Shell will be feted at the event, which will be held on September 30 at Universal Studios Hollywood‘s Globe Theatre.

“Our 2014 honorees have a long history of advancing the educational opportunities for underserved communities like the students that L.A.’s Promise serves,” the organization’s president and CEO Veronica Melvin said in a statement. “Jeff and Robert have lent their names and their time to our initiatives in order to help lead the charge in preparing every child in our LA’s Promise Neighborhood to be college and career-ready, healthy and successful in life.”

Rodriguez launched his own cable network, the El Rey Network, in 2013. Its programming includes Matador and From Dusk Till Dawn, an adaptation of his Quentin Tarantino-scripted vampire film. Rodriguez’s film directorial credits include Sin City, Spy Kids and the Machete franchise.

Shell will be present at the event, but Rodriguez is unable to attend.

This year’s event chairs include Steven SpielbergGeorge LucasJ.J. Abrams and NBCUniversal vice chairman Ron Meyer; previous honorees include Ryan SeacrestTom Cruise and Fox chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos.

In conjunction with the gala, the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park will be opened for 1,200 L.A.’s Promise students for the evening. The gala attendees will have the opportunity to join them after a cocktail reception and awards ceremony.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate students’ success than to reward them with a night of fun and adventure through the theme park,” L.A.’s Promise board co-chair Frank Marshall said in the statement.

Trejo to Star in the Crime Thriller “Hope Lost”

The 69-year-old Mexican American actor, best known for his roles in the Machete films, has signed on to star opposite Mischa Barton in Hope Lost, a new crime thriller being financed and produced by Italian company AMBI Pictures.

B-movie favorites Michael Madsen and Daniel Baldwin have signed on to co-star in the feature film, which is set in the world of sex trafficking.

Italian director David Petrucci will helm Hope Lost, with shooting set to begin later this month in Rome.

Barton will play a young Romanian girl, bored with small town life, who dreams of entering the glamorous world she sees on Italian soap operas. One night at a club she meets Gabriele, who claims to be a TV producer who wants to cast her in a reality TV show he is making in Italy. But when she arrives, she is sold to the pimp Manol (Madsen) and forced to make her living on the street. Things get darker with the arrival of Ettore (Trejo), a sadist who makes snuff movies.

The 69-year-old Mexican American actor, best known for his role as Machete in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete films, has started filming the thriller The Night Crew in Palm Springs.

From Premiere Entertainment Group, the film stars Trejo, Luke Goss, Bokeem Woodbine and Chasty Ballesteros.

The Night Crew centers on a group of hard-up bounty hunters who must survive the night in a desert motel against a horde of savage cartel killers as they realize their fugitive is much more than she lets on.

Directed by Christian Sesma, the film was co-written by Luke Paul Sloan and Sesma.

The 25-year-old half-Colombian American actress and former Spy Kids star is engaged to Big Time Rush band member Carlos Pena Jr.

Vega – who will next star in Machete Kills, Robert Rodriguez’s sequel to Machete – shared the news via her Instagram account, posting a photo of Pena with the caption “Hello fiancé.”

Pena popped the question to Vega, who’s been married once before, during a recent road trip.

On Wednesday, Pena posted a photo of Vega sporting her massive engagement ring. “My angel!!! @vegaalexa awesome road trip so far!! Now we just need to get back,” wrote the 24-year-old Spanish, Venezuelan and Dominican American singer/actor.

Rodriguez’s “Machete Kills” to Open at Austin, Texas’ Fantastic Fest

The 45-year-old Mexican American filmmaker’s sequel to the cult classic Machete, starring Danny Trejo, will debut in his hometown of Austin, Texas at the annual genre-packed Fantastic Fest.

In the film, Trejo returns as the title character – an ex-Federale turned vigilante – who is recruited by the President (Charlie Sheen – billed as Carlos Estevez) to stop an eccentric billionaire (Mel Gibson) from launching a missile into space.

Rodriguez has again assembled a B-movie dream team of name actors and unorthodox stars for his gory action-packed film, including Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding, Jr., William Sadler and Marko Zaror.

Machete Kills will have its world premiere September 19 at the new Lakeline location of the Alamo Drafthouse theaters, home to the annual horror, action, sci-fi, fantasy, and foreign film festival.

Two weeks later Open Road Films will release Machete Kills nationwide on October 4.

This year’s Fantastic Fest runs from September 19-26, 2013.

If you’re anxious to see Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills, you’ll have to wait a tad longer.

Open Road has shifted the release of the 44-year-old Mexican American filmmaker’s sequel to the Danny Trejo-starrer Machete to October 4 from its earlier September 13 date.

Along with Trejo, Machete Kills stars Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demián Bichir, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens and Mel Gibson.

Trejo returns as the blade-wielding ex-Federale agent, who this time is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet

The script, by Kyle Ward, is based on a story by Rodriguez and his brother Marcel.
