Alfred Molina to Reprise Role as Doctor Octopus in Next Installment of “Spider-Man” Franchise

The 67-year-old half-Spanish actor will return as scientist-turned-villain Otto Octavius a.k.a Doctor Octopus in the forthcoming third installment of Sony/Marvel’s Tom Holland-led Spider-Man franchise.

The Emmy and Golden Globe nominee’s character first appeared in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, starring Toby Maguire and directed by Sam Raimi. A

nd he won’t be the only one from a previous Spidey-verse who’ll make an appearance. Early this year, it was revealed that Jamie Foxx would be returning as Electro from Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Jon Watts is back to direct the sequel to the $2 billion-grossing franchise. Stars Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, and Tony Revolori are expected to return as well.

Spider-Man 3 is currently scheduled for release on December 17, 2021.

Pitbull to Guest Star on Fox’s Hip Hop Drama “Empire”

Pitbull is in an Empire state of mind…

Fox has officially announced that the 34-year-old Cuban American rap superstar will guest star on its smash hip hop drama Empire.

The musician and actor will play himself and perform “No Doubt About It” with Jamal (Jussie Smollett), in an episode slated to air this fall.

Mariah Carey also is coming on board for Season 2.

Previously announced for Season 2 appearances are Marisa Tomei as recurring and guest stars Mariah Carey, Chris Rock, Kelly Rowland, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Adam Rodriguez, among others.

Empire Season 2 premieres Wednesday, September 23 at 9:00 pm on Fox.

Derbez Signs Exclusive First-Look Deal with Pantelion Films

Eugenio Derbez is ready to make more crossover films… And, he now has the support to produce them.

The 53-year-old Mexican writer, director and star of the hit Spanish-language comedy Instructions Not Included, has signed an exclusive first-look deal with Lionsgate/Grupo Televisa’s Pantelion Films.

The pact keeps Derbez in business with the label that released his record-setting Spanish-language film last year.

The deal was made via Derbez’s newly launched 3PasStudios, a partnership with former Pantelion president of production Benjamin Odell. 3Pas will focus on Spanish- and English-language films targeted at Latino and crossover audiences in the U.S.

Instructions Not Included became the highest-grossing Spanish-language film ever released in the U.S. when it opened last year. Pantelion also is behind biopic Cantinflas which has pulled in $3.6M since it opened last weekend in 382 theaters.

Derbez’s film credits include Under The Same Moon, also among the highest-grossing Spanish language films released in the U.S.

He and Odell first worked together on Sangre de Mi Sangre in 2006, starring Derbez, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and for which Odell was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. Odell also produced Pantelion’s 2012 release Girl In Progress, starring Eva Mendes, Cierra Ramirez, Patricia Arquette and Derbez, and he is producing Pantelion’s upcoming drama Spare Parts, starring Marisa Tomei, Jamie Lee Curtis and George Lopez, scheduled for release on January 16, 2015.

Segarra Lands Role in Judd Apatow’s Comedy “Trainwreck”

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican actor has landed a role in Judd Apatow’s latest comedy Trainwreck.

Segarra, who was recently upped to series regular for the second season of USA Network’s comedy series Sirens, will portray the role of Oli, a Staten Island smooth talking guy.

 

The ensemble cast includes Amy Schumer, Daniel Radcliffe, Tilda Swinton, Marisa Tomei, Bill Hader, Brie Larson, Colin Quinn, Barkhad Abdi, Mike Birbiglia, Jon Glaser, Vanessa Bayer, John Cena, Ezra Miller, LeBron James and Method Man.

 

Trainwreck is scheduled to hit theaters on July 24, 2015.

 

 

Sony Pictures Classics Releases Trailer for Molina’s Drama “Love Is Strange”

Sony Pictures Classics has released the official trailer for the Ira Sachs-directed drama Love Is Strange, starring the 61-year-old half-Spanish actor and John Lithgow.

Molina and Lithgow portray longtime gay lovers who finally tie the knot. But their idyllic situation begins to unravel when one of them then gets fired and is unable to pay the rent. The couple must move in, separately, with a nephew and his family in Brooklyn and the two gay cops next door.

In addition to Molina and Lithgow, the film also stars Marisa Tomei, Cheyenne Jackson, Darren Burrows and Charlie Tahan.

Sony Pictures Classics Acquires Molina’s “Love is Strange”

Sony Pictures Classics and Alfred Molina are set to make strange bedfellows…

The art-house film distributor has acquired the distribution rights to the gay marriage drama Love is Strange, starring the 60-year-old half-Spanish actor.

Written and directed by Ira Sachs, the film centers on two longtime gay lovers who finally get married. One of them then gets fired and is unable to pay the rent. The couple must move in, separately, with a nephew and his family in Brooklyn and the two gay cops next door.

Along with Molina, the film also stars John Lithgow, Manny Pérez, Kelly Reilly, Tracy Letts, Marisa Tomei and Cheyenne Jackson.

The film received a strong response from the audience when it premiered earlier this year at the Eccles Theater.

The film has also garnered a French distribution deal with Pretty Pictures.

Lopez Producing & Starring in Inspirational Tale “La Vida Robot”

The 52-year-old Mexican American actor/comedian will star opposite Marisa Tomei in La Vida Robot, the true story adapted from a WIRED article about four undocumented Mexican-American teenagers who form a robotics team in Phoenix. They go up against the best from M.I.T. in the national robotics championship with an entry made from $800 and used car parts.

Lionsgate and Televisa’s Pantelion will co-produce the film with Lopez’s Travieso Productions.

In addition to Lopez and Tomei, the film stars Breaking Bad’s Steven Michael Quezada and Big Time Rush’s Carlos Pena Jr.

La Vida Robot is currently filming on location in New Mexico under helmer Sean McNamara.

Pérez Cast in Alfred Molina’s Drama “Love is Strange”

The 44-year-old Dominican actor has been cast in Ira SachsLove Is Strange, which is currently filming in New York City.

Perez will portray Roberto, the partner to Cheyenne Jackson’s character, in the drama about an older gay couple (Alfred Molina and John Lithgow) forced to live separately with friends and family shortly after they marry.

Love is Strange also stars Tracy Letts and Marisa Tomei.

Perez, best known for his roles on television Third Watch and the film Washington Heights, will be starring in 2014′s Crosstown and will appear in the upcoming season of Showtime’s Homeland.
